HOW MUCH DO WE SWEAT?

Humans simply walking produce 0.25 to 0.5 liters of sweat per hour and up to 1.5 liters during strenuous activity. All this sweat has to move through your clothing system, your gloves, and your footwear. eVent fabrics let sweat escape up to twice as fast as common waterproof membranes. When you sweat more than the fabric can handle, you will eventually soak in your own sweat — the same sweat that is trying to actually cool you down. Worse, when you stop exercising, all that sweat inside your jacket, boots, and gloves makes you feel cold and miserable. This is what is referred to as “post-exercise chill.”

WHY DO WE SWEAT?

Sweating is a natural process, part of what you could call the natural air conditioning of the human body. When we exercise our muscles produce heat. The body must stay at a homeostatic or steady-state of temperature, therefore it must find a way to cool itself. We balance our core temperature by sweating. Sweating essentially balances our body temperature by evaporative cooling.

To support our “human air conditioning” waterproof fabrics must let the sweat out. If you sweat more than the fabric can handle, two things happen:

_1 Simultaneously the air inside your jacket heats up, while its relative humidity reaches 100%.

_2 Evaporative heat loss (your human air conditioning) becomes

ineffective, which means your body’s ability to balance its temperature is compromised.

As a result you overheat. We call this the BOILER EFFECT. Eventually you soak in your own sweat – the sweat that is trying to cool you down. Worse, when you stop exercising all that sweat inside your jacket, boots and gloves makes you feel cold and miserable. The physiological experts call it “post-exercise chill.” Sound familiar?

This membrane has a particular MICRO PORES STRUCTURE. For this reason it’s different from the other polyester/polyurethane membrane: micro pores work as a fil er. They have a very very small dimension: the water drop is bigger than the pore dimensions and for this reason it cannot enter inside the fabric. The moisture instead is much more smaller than the the pores structure and for this reason it can pass through easily, allowing a very good perspiration. Designed without polyurethane, fabric with membrane “DV STRETCH” or “DV STORM” allows millions of tiny pores to breathe at their full potential and thanks to that, the sweat passes directly to the outside of the fabric in a single step called DIRECT VENTING TECHNOLOGY.

OUTER: Winter fabrics have the DWR treatment, a water repellent treatment that works very well until 20 garment washings.After this usage the TEFLON material must be re-activated ( ref. PLEASE hangtag) This kind of fabric is elastic, highly compact and with a high grade of ab rasion resistance. MEMBRANE: DV STRETCH, PTFE basis, completely porous and elastic, until 40%, that allows a perfect fitting, water protection, very good breathability and completely wind-proofness. INNER: Polyerster soft with brushed smooth fleece, ydrophilic.

OUTER: has an open structure very resistant ( abrasion resistance superior at 80.000 cycles - same resistance of a classic closed Ribstop fabric ). The external side have the DWR treatment, a water repellent treatment that works very well until 20 garment washings. After this usage the TEFLON material must be re-activated ( ref. PLEASE hangtag ). MEMBRANE: DV STORM membrane, completely water proof. This membrane has a water column of 20000 g/m2/24H but at the same time maximum breathability ( <6 m2/PA/W ). INNER: Uses a light lining made of nylon with a weight of only 15gr; resistant and membrane protective, it gives a high comfort at the skin. Hydrophilic.

FORERUNNERS: PU MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY

Most common waterproof/breathable technologies do not literally “breathe”. Instead they move sweat in two slow steps by a process of diffusion through a Polyurethane (PU) layer. First sweat is condensed and absorbed into the PU layer on the inside of the fabric. Because PU absorbs and retains sweat, the inside of the fabric becomes wet. Then, body heat begins to push that dampness through to the outside of the fabric where it can final y evaporate – a very inefficient rocess.
