Jessica Boyd, C’2009, illustrated The ABCs of HBCUs, written by Claudia Walker, C’99. The ABCs of HBCUs takes readers on a front-row, all-inclusive tour of historically Black colleges and universities. Featured on Spectrum News NY1 and in the Bed-Stuy, NY, Patch newspaper, Alexis Clark, C’2013, self-published the children’s book Lexi Dreams! Vevlyn Grant, C’2010, published her first book, A Peace of Me: Tales of Adversity and Resilience, which details in anecdotes about pain, neglect, loss, abuse and her subsequently overcoming each adversity armed with empathy and lasting resilience. A Peace of Me tells of survivors’ stories in seven witty, relatable reflections on periods of the author’s own life. Under the penname, Nic Stone, Andrea Nicole Livingstone, C’2014, wrote Dear Justyce, a story about juvenile justice through the life of Black teen experiences. This is a sequel to her New York Times best-selling YA novel, Dear Martin. Robyn Mahone-Lonesome, C’78 – Authored Meditations for An Evolving People: Kundalini Yoga Meditations from the Teachings of Yogi Bhajan Chosen for the Times We Are In.

In I Move A Lot and That’s Okay, Shermaine Perry-Knights, C’2008, teaches children how to emotionally cope with relocation. Designed to build resilience and confidence in children, this picture book follows a bright-eyed girl in a military family as she shows she can embrace a new environment, language, and a different culture. Tina McElroy Ansa, C’71, and Wanda S. Lloyd, C’71, freshman-year roommates at Spelman College, have written MEETING AT THE TABLE: African American Women Write on Race, Culture and Community. Meeting is an anthology of essays published by DownSouth Press founded in 2007 by Ansa. Adrienne E. Pack Gray, C’80, is a contributing author of Life Vision Purpose (Encore Empowerment International, LLC, 2020). In this biographic compilation, five authors share their perspective on life, vision and purpose. They have garnered countless conversations about these topics to share in this book. In Life Vision Purpose, the authors provide an up-close and personal glimpse into some of their most defining life events. Reading their individual stories are both an enlightening and freeing experience. Proceeds from book sales go to The Visionaire Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization formed by the authors, which will fund programs geared toward informing, inspiring and empowering others.
