Celebrate the Outstanding Natural Area

The idea of a park shows to a community that the natural land around them is important. The world’s first national park, Yellowstone, was created by an act of Congress in 1872 as a “pleasuring ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people in order to protect for all time this outstanding natural area." With that in mind, creating a simple structure to enjoy the "pleasuring ground" that is around them.

R i v e r W a l k

P l a n t s

Because of the desert there is this greater need for water. The idea I wanted was for the audience to see the water to create a "wall". I wanted to use the roof to create different spaces within a space. There will be an effect of “worship” when the monsoon season comes.

I wanted to create an obstructi on of the waters path so that there is a more of a plant life in some areas more abundant.

S u n S h a d o w

For the rest of the year when it is mostly sunny I wanted to create a light and shadow effect with the boards on the east and west side of the building. I wanted the effect of this sun path to be seen inside the area. Like the water I wanted to create an awe feeling of worship and wonder from the sun.

S h e l t e r

I also wanted there to be a place of shade where people and creatures could find shade and shelter from the heat. I wanted to make the sitting area out the same pattern of the structure.

MENTORSHIP The main point that I took from the vision and goals that FABRIC has is that they want to be an influence to the community and to others around them. Like a row of matches sitting together. It only takes one light to be an influence for good. However, unlike the matches (where they burn out). Positive influence never dies.

TIMBER IN THE COMMUNITY

The way a building wraps around us is how the building teaches us what is really important. Sometimes in life we need to be told to sit back, take a deep breath, and truly see what is important. That typically involves what is around us. That is what my building is doing. My Timber in the City give the individual the ability to look and see what is truly important.

Here we can observe that we have more than just a view of a river, but of each other. This community center allows for one another to look after each other.

TIMBER IN THE SCHOOL

The preschool is placed above the community and below the family dwellings. We know that what children learn from the community will rise with them to their families What they learn in together in their families and school will be brought back to the community.

Early childhood education has proven to help children develop into the adults that society need. The way this preschool was designed was to elevate children's view of the world and how they can be in influence to all.
