Bury St Edmunds Audiologist
Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Hearing Mission to Nepal Needs Your Help.
This year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is on Friday 28th September!
One selfless and determined audiologist based in Bury St Edmunds, is returning to the country Nepal, in South Asia, to help improve the lives of the many hearing impaired people who live there. Jemima Phillpot, of The Hearing Care Centre, that has a centres locally at Mount Farm GP Surgery, in Bury St Edmunds, is travelling with the Christian charity, International Nepal Fellowships, which undertakes medical camps across the poverty-stricken country. The medical camps are staffed by clinical specialists from around the world who work on a voluntary basis to provide treatment to patients who would otherwise have little or no opportunity to benefit from such services, including audiology and ear surgery. The 2012 mission involves all attendees financing their own attendance as well as having to provide equipment to be used to help change lives.
Help in a financial capacity is urgently required as well as equipment, particularly bone conductors/head bands, body worn aids, leads for body worn aids, medium to high powered behind-the-ear hearing aids and small ear moulds. However, anything would be gratefully received by the team.
You can organise one anywhere - at home, work, your village hall... Have cake, have coffee, have fun! Money raised will go towards helping people living with cancer both locally and nationally.
To find out more and order a host pack, go to: www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee Or call us on 0845 602 1246.
Jemima, whose last trip was in 2007 said, “ Even though the trip was a huge challenge physically and emotionally, I decided immediately that I needed to go again.
Free Hearing Care Event
“To give you an idea of the challenge ahead, the last camp I took part in treated 1023 patients, performed 150 operations, carried out 381 audiograms and fitted 107 hearing aid in just eight days.”
It has been recently estimated that one in 6 people in the UK has a hearing problem, and amazingly this equates to over 18,000 people in the Bury St Edmunds constituency alone.
Information on making donations can be found by visiting www.hearingcarecentre.co.uk.
Returns to Bury St Edmunds.
Many people take 10-15 years before seeking help about a hearing problem, but local hearing aid audiologist Karen Finch is hoping to get people to take that first step earlier by organising a free hearing care event in Bury St Edmunds. “There is plenty of evidence that people with uncorrected hearing loss have a worse quality of life than those with normal hearing, and there is also evidence that untreated deafness can lead to people suffering from serious social or psychological problems,” she said. Karen explained that people with hearing loss tend to get left out of family discussions and decision-
making and for many this will have been highlighted over the festive period. There are frequent misunderstandings, relationships can become difficult, marriages strained and the unimpaired partner can suffer stress, fatigue, anger and guilt. Her company that she established back in 1998, The Hearing Care Centre, has its local base at Mount Farm GP Surgery, in Bury St Edmunds and is this month hosting a Hearing Care Open Day. On offer will be free hearing checks, hearing aid servicing and professional advice on any hearing loss related matters. The event, which is being held on Wednesday 15th August 2012 (9am-5pm), is open by appointment only. To book call 0800 096 2637 or visit www.hearingcarecentre.co.uk/ burystedmunds.

Yes there is some new legalisation that is being introduced that could affect most employers. If you employ part or full time staff the new pension regulations, the Government’s auto enrolment scheme, may mean that you may have to pay into a pension for them. The regulations are being introduced from 2012 to 2017 and it will be compulsory for certain employees to be offered this scheme. Whether an employee qualifies will depend upon their age and their income. The legalisation is extremely complicated and will have an impact on millions of employees and indirectly employers, as employers will have to pay into their employee’s pensions. There are significant fines if the legalisation is ignored and the fines can be levied on an ongoing basis, so please be aware. The new scheme is not like the old Stakeholder Scheme, where once you registered you could

SOCIAL MEDIA 11
10 Tips For Good Use Of Social Media The social media community is constantly growing and if you’re looking to tap into it and gain more interest into your business then it’s important to maintain good social media etiquette. Here are ten tips for good social media management: 1. Respond to clients You’ve got to be doing more than simply posting your own updates, it’s of the utmost importance that any questions or queries that are posted are replied to. You don’t want your clients to feel ignored, nor do you want your Facebook page, website etc to seem dormant and unmaintained. 2. Shout-outs and gratitude If somebody gives you some form of promotional attention or positive feedback, such as a ‘retweet’ on Twitter, be sure to thank them for it. 3. Qualified and experienced opinions The people within your business who are most qualified and experienced should be involved with management of your social media, they are after all, going to be the most knowledgeable on the subject.
4. Maintain your content To a potential client who hasn’t visited your shop, office, etc, the only impression they’ll have of your business will come from your online material. Poorly maintained, out of date content is only going to give you a negative image.
7. Tread carefully around humour Humour is arguably a powerful marketing technique, but it’s also subjective and varies person to person. Before you start making jokes be aware of your market and how they may approach it.
10. Networking with other businesses Converging with other businesses online is easy and beneficial to both parties, it also gives the impression you’re not occupied with only yourself and gives a friendly business image to any potential clients.
5. Network your social media If you use more than one social media platform, it’s important to keep them synchronised.
8. Use your ingenuity See how other businesses go about maintaining their online presence and try and implement the methods that work. Be sure to use whatever new features your chosen platform/ platforms may have, for example mobile web, photo and video.
Come along then, join the World of Social Media follow us at: @Dispatch_Mag we will re-Tweet your tweets to our massive following, and it’s a great way of attracting new business.
For example, if you’re uploading content to Website then make sure your Facebook profile is aware of it - you don’t want to have contradictory material and you don’t want one platform to seem ahead of the others. 6. Start with good content If you’re launching on a new platform you want to have a strong start, you don’t want the first people to stumble across your business to have a poor first impression. Bio: Friendly & reliable family run leaflet and marketing company. LET US PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS covering Norfolk & North Suffolk. Follow us and we will follow you.

9. Informal Business Mix business-related content with less formal content, people will lose interest if bombarded with work related updates and posts. For example, allow your followers behind the scenes occasionally, showing them a little more than they’d ordinarily see will improve your client relationships.

BMW 640d Coupé M Sport By Tim Barnes-Clay, Motoring Writer, Twitter: @carwriteups Visit: www.carwriteups.co.uk. THERE ARE people who can light up a room with their presence. They are good at building and maintaining relationships. They establish rapport quickly and effortlessly. It seems like everybody is their best friend. This BMW is just like that – but in the car sense. An exceptional twin-turbocharged diesel powerplant, a newly developed chassis and a host of class-leading driver assistance technology ensures that the new 640d M Sport Coupé, on test here, is full of substance, while interior space and comfort have been enhanced. Sat behind the chunky steering wheel, the car seems to exude a palpable sense of selfconfidence and positive energy. The switchgear and controls are sturdy, and the sat nav and iDrive controller are simple to use. Motoring enthusiasts will be instinctively drawn to the German 2+2 because of its nearly indefinable quality. I guess the latest 640d Coupé is the automotive equivalent of a person with a magnetic personality. The third generation model features a sweeping roofline while the long bonnet, short over-hangs, setback passenger compartment,
long wheelbase and flat waistline embody the typical proportions of a BMW coupé more than any other. From the rear, bulging wheel arches highlight the wide track of the car, alluding to its sporting performance and impressive road holding. Two-part rear light clusters give the typical BMW L-shape lights a particularly sporty, dynamic edge and, inside the units, two LED-powered light strips create an eye-catching night time look. In the front, the passenger area is bordered by a surface curving elegantly from the armrest over the centre console, upwards and outwards into the instrument panel and then into the door trim, surrounding the front passenger area with a feeling of exclusive security. The BMW is fitted with lightweight seats with an integrated seatbelt system and easy entry function to the rear passenger compartment: a brief tap of a switch automatically moves the seat as far forward as possible. Realistically, you won’t fit any longlegged or even average height adult passengers in the rear, but, for small children, the individual rear seats are ideal, providing ample shoulder and elbow room.
The boot can accommodate 460 litres of luggage, equivalent to three golf bags or two medium cases and a flight case. To utilise the rear space further the rear seats can be specified with a through-loading ski hatch, allowing two pairs of skis to be transported with ease.
The 6 Series Coupé went on sale in the UK in October 2011.
Of course, out on asphalt is where the 640d really impresses; powering the beast is one of the world’s sportiest diesel engines - a 3.0 litre twin-turbocharged in-line six-cylinder unit, producing 309bhp at 4,400rpm and 465 lb-ft of pulling power. The car has great traction and it needs it: the 640d Coupé M Sport is capable of accelerating from zero to 62mph in 5.5seconds, before topping out at an electronically limited 155mph.

The BMW 640d Coupé is also fitted as standard with an eightspeed automatic transmission with auto start-stop and active air flaps behind the kidney grille. Such engineering expertise is the reason why the model offers zesty performance but can still achieve 51.4mpg on the combined cycle and record CO2 emissions of 145g/km.
BMW UK expects to sell around 1,100 models in its first full year with the diesel powered version accounting for 90 per cent of sales. PROS
