Sleep Well This Sleeptember At Sound Sleep we promote Sleeptember every September, but in fact every month should be Sleeptember. Sleep is one of the most important things in our daily routine, second to food and water, but it is the one thing that the majority of us get enough of. Its not just a comfortable bed that is required, its the correct sleeping environment and the way that you behave in the evenings that can affect the way you sleep. Our bodies are a very complex machine and need looking after so they can run effectively, sleep allows our body to rest and regenerate, also sleep is required for muscle growth and repair and even assists in weight loss. So what can you do to ensure you get a great nights sleep? Firstly, your bedroom has to be the right temperature (not too hot or too cold), it needs to be quiet and dark and most of all, it needs to be free of distractions. Turn the television off standby and turn off that mobile phone. Lights, flashes and vibrations will bring us out of deep sleep and maybe even wake us up. No text or facebook post is worth breaking your sleep for. Now that your bedroom is the correct environment, the bed needs
to be supportive. Just because it looks ok, doesn’t mean that it is giving you the correct support, especially if it is over seven years old. Its worth thinking that £1000 over 7 years is just 40 pence per night, or for a really good new mattress of approximately £500, that is just 20 pence per night. That’s all it takes to keep our bodies comfortable so we can perform to the best of our ability every day! The things we often forget about is the few hours before we go to sleep. Instead of over indulging on food and alcohol and too much television, do some exercise after work followed by a satisfying meal and don’t drink too much wine! Perhaps turn off the television and read or relax in a hot bath, this helps our body wind down before bed. If you are stressed about things to do tomorrow, right a list that way your brain can wind down too. By changing a few things in life and getting a good nights sleep will make you feel happier, feel healthier, look better, perform better and think better.
Here are a few Sleeptember sleep facts: •Majority of Britons (70%) now sleep for seven hours or less per night with more than a quarter (27%) experiencing poor quality sleep on a regular basis. And the number of Britons getting just fiveto-six hours per night has risen dramatically in the past three years: more than a third of us get by on that amount of sleep compared to 27% in 2010. •Getting a good night’s sleep is just as important as diet and exercise when trying to lose weight. People who shifted their sleeping pattern from less than six hours to between seven and eight hours a night put on 2.4kg less weight over a six year period. •51% of adults struggle to nod off or remain sleep. Women suffer far more than men with 75% reporting problems compared with 25% of men •A bed may have deteriorated by as much as 70% from its ‘as new’ state after 10 years. It also showed that beds as little as six years old could offer significantly less support and comfort than a new one, thanks to wear and tear
not just from body weight and movement but also sweat and debris such as skin, scales, hair etc. •One in six women acknowledged that their tiredness was caused by an uncomfortable bed. And seven out of 10 women would be prepared to pay £500 and considerably more to buy a new one. •We need at least six hours of sleep a night to recharge your batteries and learn new things the next day scientists have claimed. Light, dreamless sleep which can take up half the night allows our brain to recharge our learning capacity. •A recent French clinical study to compare sleep on a new bed versus an old bed showed that both young and old experience not necessarily more sleep but better quality – that is, less disturbed and more recuperative sleep – with three times fewer physical movements and two times fewer microawakenings being recorded. •Adding regular moderate exercise to a daily routine for 16 weeks showed middle-aged to older people could fall asleep about 15 minutes earlier and sleep roughly 45 minutes longer. •One in 10 people attribute poor sleep to a bad bed. •When replacing an uncomfortable bed, a new bed was associated with an increase of 42 minutes sleep. •Ergonomic studies have shown that couples sleep better in a bigger bed. Before trials only 15% said they would buy a larger than standard bed while afterwards, 50% said they would. Facts and figures provided by The Sleep Council

‘A’ Clean Sweep At Ipswich High With Record Breaking A* & A Results Students at Ipswich High School are celebrating after achieving record A level results. The A* grades are the school’s highest ever recorded at 35.2%, and 60.4% were graded A* and A. Almost half of the individual candidates achieved straight A* and As. Both Chemistry and Latin saw a clean sweep of straight A* and A results, with French reaching 83% of the top marks, closely followed by Maths and Spanish where 75% of all results were A* and A. There was a 100% A* success rate in Art, and one of the Art students Charlotte Cubitt (18) is delighted to be going to the renowned Falmouth College to take an Art Foundation. Twins Emily and Alice Robinson, aged 18 who had previously scored an astonishing combined 22 A* and As at GCSE, continued their run of success with 8 A* grades between them at A level. Emily is now going on to study Philosophy at her namesakes’ Robinson College, Cambridge while her sister is heading to Imperial
College to study Material Science and Engineering. Oona Carlin, Head of Ipswich High said “I am really proud to be celebrating with the girls today; this is a tremendous day after a brilliant first year as Head of this school. The results are testament to the students’ dedication and hard work and the invaluable contribution by our teaching staff. Thank you to all the parents and staff who support the girls to achieve such outstanding results.” “I am excited for their future – the students are off to study such diverse subjects at university from Arabic to Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celt; Nursing to Criminal Psychology; Engineering to Law. Continuing our success in the Arts, we also have one pupil, Lizzie Adams (18) heading to the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) to study Stage Management. This breadth of subjects shows just how the girls really are taking a lead in their own futures
and following their passions. Armed with such extraordinary results, they promise to have very bright futures ahead of them.” A* A* and A A* - C

Hearing Loss – Helping A Loved One By Norfolk Audiologist, Simon Myhill RHAD MSHAA If you are reading this column it is because you suspect that someone you care about might have a hearing loss. And you want to help. Hearing is an easy thing to take for granted. Initially, you may have a giggle at their misunderstanding of words or the bizarre interpretations they come up with, but after a while the daily miscommunication will lead to concern and frustration of having to repeat yourself. Age-related hearing loss generally occurs gradually. As a result, it is often family and friends who are the first to notice the problem. Things are not nearly as easy with a hearing loss. It is diffcult to converse in a crowded room or over the phone. It is not that things are not always loud enough, but that they are not clear enough. People often claim that there would not be a problem if others would just stop mumbling. Sounds fade so gradually that they can disappear unnoticed, for example when the birds stop chirping. Left untreated, hearing loss can affect relationships between the person affected
September 2014
and their family and friends, quietly eroding their quality of life. That is why it is important to motivate your loved one to get their hearing tested and to take the necessary action, and to learn how you can help with any communication diffculties. In my practice we often have children contacting us who are concerned about their parents or, as they’ve been trying to call them on the telephone all day and they don’t answer, or others who have broken into their parents’ house after repeatedly knocking on the door, only to find them blissfully unaware in the back garden. Quite often, because of the stigma attached to hearing loss, elderly parents don’t respond to initial prompts from their children to have their hearing tested. Why is there so much resistance? The main reason is denial. Many older adults just don’t think they have a problem. We know from research that it takes people with hearing loss 5 to
10 years before they have their hearing tested, and more than four million people in the UK who would benefit from wearing hearing aids, don’t have one. Tips to convince loved ones to have their hearing checked • • •
Talk to them about the benefits of seeking help and the things they are missing out on, such as social occasions or physical activities. Reassure them that modern devices are small, discreet and the technology is simple and automatic. Discuss the dangers of undiagnosed hearing loss—for instance, not being able to hear properly while driving, or the simple fact that leaving it untreated will only make it worsen quicker.
Norfolk Open Days – FREE hearing checks This month there has never been a better chance for your loved one to have their hearing checked. My colleagues and I at The Hearing Care Centre are offering

Back To Work! Attending to the important admin tasks after the holiday? Hopefully as you read this – you have just returned from a lovely relaxing holiday. No queue at the airport, relaxing on the beach maybe even in the UK as the weather has been pretty good! Perhaps you prefer something a little more strenuous –a visit to a castle or a walk taking in a mountain. Whatever it was that was your idea of a good time, we hope that you got to have a lovely break away from your job. But now that break is over and it’s time to get your nose back to the grindstone! Are you already feeling as if your holiday was a distant memory? Have you had to work long hours just to get back on track? Hopefully you haven’t missed any deadlines? Now that the real time system for reporting payroll is well under way, it is making life for small employers and small businesses more difficult. From October 2014 if you miss your real time submission deadline HMRC will fine you even as a “micro employer”. So that means if you are ill, or on holiday you have to find someone else who can run the payroll for you and submit the all important returns. Or what about if your VAT return is due? Do you try and get this submitted and paid before you go off on holiday – knowing that you need not have paid this for another couple of weeks – or do you leave it until you come back knowing it might well be late?
The fact is that when you are running a business, every day is precious, there is always so much to do to keep your business running – sales to get in, money from customers, purchases to be paid for, payroll to do and accounts that need keeping up to date. So whilst you deserve that break away, when you come back – it can be a bit daunting getting back on track again. Now there are probably a few answers to this scenario – 1. Don’t go on holiday! 2. Employ someone else to do your job! – but I like to think that one of the best solutions would be to get us here at KBA to help you with your payroll ,VAT, accounts ,tax returns, debt chasing – in fact all those things that mean that you can get on with either having the holiday you deserve or getting that all important business in for the future.
Neither of these seem like great options so why not let us help you get your profit agreed and ensure that you can claim everything that you are entitled to. Now we all know that we have until January 2015 to complete tax returns but wouldn’t it be so much nicer if you knew that by Christmas everything was sorted and that there will be no nasty surprises in January. After all knowing what you need to pay has got to be better than
worrying about it – you can start saving, putting the money to one side and be ready to pay with no additional hassles. If you fancy a hassle free autumn then why not come and see what we can do for you to make your life easier and less stressful – call 01953 457173 or email kerry@ kerrybutcher.co.uk . Why not arrange that initial free consultation to start the ball rolling – we hope you will be glad you did.
We like to think that it is a far more effective use of time to ask us to prepare the VAT returns and run your payroll whilst you get on with making your business the success it deserves to be or having a holiday to relax and recharge ready for the next few months ahead. If you are self employed then hopefully you have contacted tax credits with an estimated profit, if not your actual. If it was estimated, be sure that you provide an actual figure prior to 31 January 2015 or you could be facing penalties or missing out on tax credits due to you.

thing we ever face. When you’re facing the toughest fight of your life, you need a team of inspiring people in your corner with you.
It’s Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event, where we ask people across the UK to hold a coffee morning and raise money for people living with cancer. In 2013, 154,000 people signed up, raising a record £20 million.
That’s who we are. We provide medical, emotional, practical and financial support and we push for a better cancer care system. We’re the team that gives you the strength and energy to face the fight and get through it.
The event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning where people came along to meet and mingle - as they might ordinarily do - but donate the cost of their coffee to Macmillan in the process.
For more general information about this event, take a look at the website: www. coffee.macmillan.org.uk

We hope you’ll get together with friends, family and colleagues on Friday 26 September and make time for what really matters. There are currently 2 million people living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 there will be 4 million. We want to make sure we’re there for all of them. One in three of us will get cancer and for most it will be the toughest

Suffolk & Norfolk Youth Action More Talk - More Action .... SNYA Ambassadors Barford Festival
giving time checks and a countdown to the gates opening at 14:00 hrs.
Barford Festival 2014, took place on a baking hot Saturday 12th July. The Festival is now in its ninth year and the third year that SNYA has hosted the mini Glastonbury type event. It is hard to believe that it is in fact a primary school event delivered by the Friends of Barford School.
Our first duo was Mouldy Figs, a 1920’s Jazz duo that performed traditional jazz and some hits from motion picture soundtracks. The Fez wearing duo proved very popular showing that Doctor Who is not the only one who can get away with wearing this garment.
Strange Tail, a no- frills hard rock band from the East of England. The rest of the line-up included Destination Mars, March of the Robots, Can’t surf, Dust Bowl Blues and Trailer Park. The event also saw many art, craft and jewellery stalls, selling handmade local items including candle holders, hats, pendants, baby shoes, crochet and knitted goods, rainbow lume bands and Indian Jewellery. The stalls ranged from the traditional to the bizarre with the heritage group focusing on WW1 with a tank game and decipher the secret code game, whilst mad science electrocuted people and burnt their bogeys. You could even get an Indian head massage. The food retailers included those selling Coconut juice, Pizza, BBQ and a ‘Posh’ drinks tent.
Barford Festival What makes this festival stand out from all the others, is how it is inclusive of other local charity organisations, giving them the opportunity of raising much needed funds for their own causes. This year the organisers were particularly focused on not only supporting the future of their own school but creating a true community spirit. The event included circus workshops, bizarre beasts from Banham Zoo, art workshops, steam train rides, stilt walkers magic shows, a selfie booth, Walkabout Street Magic, a steampunk time traveller, Illusions, balloon modelling, mad science’s slime workshop, Roger Blighty and Betsy Blue biplane, pop-up drama performances, rides and slides, Zorba Balls and face painting. The SNYA Team of Jamie Hall, Tom Ferguson and Alfie Mazzei met up with our Outside Audio Engineer Paul ‘Titch’ Hagon and Stage Manager, Ian ‘Woody’ Woods, to ready the performance marque for the forthcoming musical spectacular. Audio checks were made before going live on air at 13:00 hrs. The first hour included the usual health and safety checks, informing the traders what to do in the case of an emergency, telling them who the stewards are, removing vehicles from the field and

The next musician was Imogen Setters, now Imogen is the sister of Jake and Toby Setters and after my initial surprise that they even had a sister, she knocked the audience dead with three songs accompanied by her Ukulele. Imogen told me that she decided to go it alone after being repeatedly knocked back by her brothers who would not let her join their band, Can’t Surf. Well guys, you may want to think again as your sister stole the show. Two thirds of Behind the Green Screen was up next. John Franks, Drummer, and Edward Ashcroft, this time on acoustic guitar, performed their set. Edward told us that their bass guitarist, Sam Essinger, could not make the gig but they did not want to let their fans down. Well done guys you were superb. Now Barford festival is renowned for its connection with the Mazzei family, for those of you of a certain age they are Norfolk’s equivalent of the Partridge Family. First up was Ewan Mazzei, this time performing some of his own works as well as covering Ed Sheeran amongst others. Ewan gave a fantastic performance after being introduced on stage by his brother and SNYA presenter Alfie. Dad was to perform later in the evening with his band Kepler. Box of light performed for us and so did
Around the showground were various activities for visitors to have a go at, including archery, bouncy castle assault course, Zorba Balls and a wrecking ball game. Local groups such as the Queens Hill Youth Football Club offered penalty shoot outs, whilst ‘Twin Hatter’ Cllr. Margaret Dewsbury raised money with her traditional games for The Barford Festivals chosen cancer charity ‘Star Throwers’. The event was fantastic, with big congratulations and thanks to all the Festival Committee. We can’t wait to see what you have got install for us for your tenth anniversary, next year. Attleborough Norfolk NR172AJ 01953 452109 office@snya.co.uk www.snya.co.uk Attleborough Carnival Arriving at the showground, on Sunday 13th July at 10.00hrs, to set up the Gazebo for our friends at Attleborough Players, you could not fail to notice the black storm clouds forming in the sky. This did not deter the enthusiasm for the day, as they gathered in Connaught Hall to put on their costumes for the walking procession. Fifteen minutes later we arrived at the starting point, at Fairfield Drive, to meet up with the other organisations in the procession and as if by magic, the sun broke through. Norfolk Fire and Rescue Services led this year’s procession with their fire engine and their support and rescue unit. They were followed by a lovely black stretch limo that carried our Town Mayor, Karen Pettit, Rose Queen, Tyler Barker, as well as Rose Prince, Owen Stewart and Rose Princess, Kaci Thorpe. Behind them were the very visual and audible Zumba group and then the Attleborough Town’s Youth Football Club. Further down the procession you could see Attleborough Boxing Club members as well as the Attleborough Heritage Group. In this year’s procession we had six classic mini cars as well as the East Anglia Crew (car club). They had highly polished cars with very loud exhausts. Laura Jamie Personal Training

group and Ku Sool Won Korean Martial Arts club was also present as well as an American themed float, including a Harley Davidson Bike, from Mr D’s Diner on the A11. There was a steam driven van and bus as well as a lorry full of people from the ‘Dressing up Box’ presenting a medieval theme. Children from the Star Dance Company performed through the packed streets and a recovery service were collecting money for a stroke charity. Once the procession had made its way around the packed streets of Attleborough we arrived back at the showground. Stone Soda, a pop group, began performing on stage and the stall holders and the fairground prepared for the influx of visitors to the event. As the day started proper, the heavens opened up with stair rods of rain beating down upon the crowd. They gathered their belongings and ran for shelter of the gazebos and marques around the site, you could just about make out the packed stalls that were once clearly visible. The tent roofs had to be liberated from the increasing heavy amount of rain water they were holding and the car park started to look like a lake. About twenty minutes later though the rain stopped as quickly as it had started, this allowed everyone to dry out and to take stock of the affect that it had. The only noticeable difference was the Attleborough Boxing Club had been completely washed away; it was almost as if they had packed up and gone home – surely not! The rest of the event went without a hitch with the main arena seeing displays from the fire brigade, a stunt mountain bike display crew, and a bird of prey flying and feeding exhibition. The only display that was deemed too dangerous due to the wet ground was the Korean Martial Arts demonstration, so this was cancelled. All around the showground we had tents and gazebos exhibiting a range of businesses, activities, clubs, and societies. Attleborough Youth Football Club was offering penalty shootouts; Attleborough Heritage Group was commemorating the First World War with activities and tombola.
Attleborough Macmillan Support group was present with other organisations offering face painting and Christ Community Church was asking Who Cares? They are trying to find out what is going on in their community and what hurts the most. Once the information has been collated they will respond with the love of Jesus. Friends of SNYA, the Wymondham Lions, were present marshalling the procession and manning their own stall selling books and running tombola. The Chequered Flag Garage presented a large exhibition of Ssangyong cars from North Korea. They told us that the ‘four by four’ vehicles are as good off road as on and they were hoping that their presence at Attleborough Carnival would raise the companies profile within the community. Gillian, from the World Horse Welfare Centre at Snetterton introduced us to Stanley an 11 years old pony form the equine charity. “Stanley is the Hall Farm mascot as he has been out several times on loan but been returned through no fault of his own. The charity looks for permanent homes for the rescue horses but they are all just on loan as the rescue centre does not sell their stock. They remain our property but we look for permanent loving homes and check on them periodically, we never lose contact with our horses. We currently have 150 horses on site as we have had an intake of two or three large welfare cases in the last few months”. Gillian went on to say that “sixty horses came in one go and unfortunately, it is getting more common for people to hoard animals.” I just thought that this was sad and amazing all in one go.
South Norfolk Show Thousands of people enjoyed the best of what South Norfolk has to offer on Sunday at South Norfolk Council’s biggest show of the year. Fantastic attractions, fun activities and stalls packed full of local produce pulled in close to 4,000 people to South Norfolk on Show at the Council’s HQ in Long Stratton. This is the fifth year running that the Council has promoted its services through a spectacular day of free entertainment for all the family and this year’s attendance beat all previous records. South Norfolk Council’s Deputy Leader Councillor Martin Wilby said: “What a fantastic day, an excellent turnout and glorious weather. Everywhere you looked families were having fun and finding out about what the Council does in the process.” “Every year the event gets more and more popular which is brilliant for all the local businesses, charities and entertainers who take part. We have so much to offer in South Norfolk and it’s a fantastic chance to showcase everything that makes it such a great place to live, work and visit.” Children marvelled at the Bubbleologist, had their picture taken with Ewoks, cheered Horatios Last Hurrah and made it to the top of Spider Mountain. The Talent Show on the main stage attracted huge crowds, pets won prizes at the Fun Dog Show and the big top was full of children learning circus skills. While the farmers market filled the Leisure Centre and model planes looped the loop overhead.
212 people filled out feedback cards, with nearly 70 percent giving the event five out of five stars. For more ideas about what to do in South Norfolk this Summer, visit our website and download our fun-packed Event Guide.” Harleston Family Day At Memorial Park, we all gathered in anticipation of the attendance of the young residents of Harleston and we weren’t disappointed. This annual sports event sees hundreds of young people and children try out some traditional games, as well as some unfamiliar activities and this year was no exception. We organised games of Rounders, Cricket, Football as well as Badminton. The teenagers showed off their talent by broadcasting live from our mobile studio on SNYA Radio whilst others tried to beat me at table football, I did warn them that I was good but they still persisted, so I had to humiliate them with a 10 – 1 win. (Don’t underestimate the old youth worker). Other games included table tennis and Swing Ball. Fruit juice was provided throughout the day with a free BBQ rounding off the afternoon. Councilor Jeremy Savage told me a bit about the history of the park, explaining that it had been donated to the people of Harleston after the First World War. The day was funded by Exchange2 youth provision. SNYA took the opportunity of talking to the young people to find out what they wanted to do over the summer period and most wanted day trips out so we will look into sorting that out for them. Wymondham Carnival
On the field we had food vendors ranging from Fish and chip sellers to ‘Bitter Sweet Curious Coffee Shop’, not forgetting Deb’s dinky doughnuts, Duck truck – duck wrap and Tony Perkins Quality Butcher – Burgers and Hot Dogs Other activities included Pied Peddler Creations – Art and craft stall, Whizz Circus Skills and a Ferret re-homing programme operating from PACT Animal Sanctuary in Watton.

We waited ten years for Wymondham Carnival and boy was it worth waiting for. Thousands of Wymondhamites lined the roads and packed the Market Cross for the comeback that we have all been waiting for. Entitled ‘Wymondham-OnSea,’ residents enjoyed the benefit of a beautiful summer’s day.

The procession started at the Wymondham Library, lead by a steam engine, before making its way down Back
September 2014
18 ATTLEBORoUGH cont’d Lane, up Town Green, along Middleton Street before eventually arriving at its destination on Market Street. In the procession was Stix Baton Twirling, a new group from Hingham, Wymondham Young farmers, who were pulling a boat on a trailer and Wymondham Players who were all dressed up as the cast of The Vicar of Dibley, which is their next production. Kuk Sool Won, traditional Korean Martial Arts, enjoyed processing through the streets before giving a crowd pleasing exhibition in the Market Cross. The boys from the Wymondham Rugby Club had a sea-side water pistol surprise of their own for the crowds of well-wishers that packed the streets. Outta Line, Line dancers, processed with three standard Poodles and a white horse before they gave us an energetic display of the type of dancing that they regularly undertake during their classes in Attleborough. Some special guest that was enjoyed by the crowd included Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper, Joker and Batman as well as (did you spot) a lone Samurai soldier. It was nice to see so many community groups present including Lifted, a social support group for mums run by City Church, Hoppers, a group run by Hope Church for Expectant Mums, dads and carers and also E.A.C.H., East Anglia Children’s Hospice. Also processing was the Women’s Institute with their surfboards and bucket and spades as well as some of them dressed up as Beach Huts. I raised my concerns as to their well being but they insisted that they were nice and cool and even invited me in. Oh… har…. Mrses, moving on we had the Buggy Boot Camp which is a fitness programme for mummies with babies and toddlers and a Zumba group that meet in Norwich, Attleborough, and Wymondham. The Zumba group forgot which way the audience were seated and did their entire performance with their backs to them. I tried to compensate by replicating the dance facing the audience but I just got laughed at by teenagers (how very rude!) The Smokehouse Blues Marching Jazz Band entertained the audience alongside the road with some good old Jazz classics and local retailer Ward-Robes modelled some of their outfits as well as Wymondham Brownies waving to the crowds. The undoubted stars of the show
September 2014
www.attleboroughonline.co.uk were Wymondham Guides dressed as Minions from Despicable Me as voted for as ‘Best in Procession’ by amongst others, George Freeman MP. The procession was finished by an electric car and a classic motor car. The entertainment went throughout the night with the climax being the announcement of SNYA Radio’s favourite, Behind the Green Screen, as the winner of Wymondham’s Got Talent 2014 and a firework display. We invited them and other Wymondham young people to the next meeting of the ‘Wymondham Youth Project’. Seven young people addressed the group, increasing the activities list to include a ‘Gaming Night’, (where young people compete against each other using Xbox and Play station), music nights and alterations to the existing skateboard park for the benefit of younger children. SNYA has joined Creative Arts East’s, Village Screen. They have provided projectionist training for us and some of our members have signed up for their ‘Somewhere to ……..’ project so they can benefit from marketing training. My team has visited community halls in Wymondham to check out the availability and to see if the premises are dark enough to show films. We have consulted with even more of Wymondham’s young people to establish where they are able to go to watch films and what films they would like to see. We are very excited about the project
and hope to bring you the real cinema experience to rurally isolated towns and villages. We understand the needs of our young people and they have told us that they do not want a large plasma TV. Notwithstanding the limitations of a mobile Cinema project, I can assure you that we aim to bring you that ‘real cinema’ feel with a full screen, stereo sound and projection. You are able to purchase popcorn, pop and sweets but as community centres usually have those hard plastic chairs, we are encouraging all the young people to bring their own bean bags for extra comfort. SNYA is not competing with other cinemas but we are aiming to bring to you the latest films, after they have been shown at regular cinemas but before they are available on general release on DVD. Our target audience are those that have seen the movies before and want to enjoy them a second time with a different friendship group and those who are seeing the film for the first time and want to take advantage of cheaper prices and do not want the additional cost of travelling to the City. Just like regular cinemas, we have a website that informs people what, where, and when the films are to be shown, booking in advance facilities to guarantee entry, and a loyalty card that entitles you to a 10% discount and a free portion of popcorn.

Buying Property Jointly With Someone Else Whenever people buy a property jointly with someone else a trust of land is created and it is important to ensure that the property is held in such a way so that on any future sale, or in the event of the death of one of the owners, the sale proceeds are divided as the parties intend. There are two ways of owning land jointly. The first is as beneficial joint tenants and the second is as tenants in common. If you own as beneficial joint tenants then you are each entitled to half of any equity in the property on a sale (being the amount left over once any mortgage is repaid), and, if one of you dies, the property will automatically pass to the surviving joint tenant. However, it is possible to sever a joint tenancy and make it into an equal tenancy in common by serving a notice on your co-owner of your wish to do this at any time. Severance of a joint tenancy can also occur automatically e.g. if a joint owner is declared bankrupt. If you own as tenants in common you can choose to own the property either equally or in unequal shares, and on the death of one of you, the share of the deceased will pass
according to the Will of the deceased or under the intestacy rules if there is no Will. It is therefore very important that if you own as a tenant in common that Wills are made by both co-owners to deal with their respective shares particularly if either one wanted to leave their share to someone else altogether but give their co-owner the right to continue to live in the property. People should therefore very carefully how they wish to own their property when buying jointly with another person especially when one or other of them has received a gifted deposit from another family member such as parents or grandparents, as is very common these days, or is using more of their own savings to put towards the deposit than the other party. This is especially so if they wish to protect their larger deposit in the event
of a relationship breakdown in the future. Your Solicitor should ask you about the source of your deposit and how you wish to own the property as part of the conveyancing process. If you wish to protect a greater share of the deposit that you have paid you should say you want to own as tenants in common in unequal shares. You could also ask your Solicitor to prepare a separate Declaration of Trust document to record the amount of deposit you have each paid and
to agree that you should receive this amount back on a future sale once the mortgage is repaid or that the equity should be divided in unequal proportions. The Declaration could also record other agreed terms such as what would happen if one party wished to sell and the other did not. Local Funeral Home Enlists The Support From Four-legged Friends In Their Final Event To Raise Vital Funds For Church Restorations Rosedale Funeral Homes is a small, family run, community focused business which is always looking for ways to help support local communities. Throughout 2014, Rosedale are celebrating their tenth anniversary and to mark the occasion they set themselves the challenge to raise £10,000. The Companion Dog Show is the last event organised by Rosedale’s staff who aim to make it a fun packed day for all the family. “We have organised a number of events, including Quiz nights, Bingo Nights, a Walk of Remembrance as well as a Golf Day, but the Companion Dog Show is the event that has been organised for the whole family to enjoy - including man’s best friend” says James Smith, Funeral Director of Rosedale in Attleborough
and Wymondham. “We hope everyone will join us to help celebrate our tenth anniversary at this final event, helping us to raise vital funds to assist with the restoration of All Saints Church Old Buckenham.” “We are thrilled that Rosedale have chosen to support our village by organising what should be a great event and we are sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy” says Mike Bartlett, the key fundraiser for ‘Old Buckenham Church Restorations.” The Church Rooms will be open for refreshments, craft and food stalls will be on The Green and it is great to have the support from local businesses such as the Ox

To commemorate the centenary of World War 1, the Club has decided to devote a separate section to artwork covering scenes of war, the trenches, medals and poppies. Whilst embarking
on this project, we have learned many fascinating and extremely poignant facts about ‘The Great War’ many examples of which will be included in the exhibition. In addition to our artwork, we shall display many other items of memorabilia - some being treasured possessions belonging to members of the Club. Refresments and delicious cakes will be available as will the opportunity to

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) As autumn approaches and people return from their summer holidays feeling relaxed and refreshed each is asking the local community to turn their new found energy into support for the charity EACH provides care to life-threatened children and young people and supports their families. These services are provided from their hospice in Quidenham as well as in the family home and in the community.
make a financial commitment. Challenge events are a great way to set yourself a personal challenge as well as a fundraising one. You could Trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, cycle from London to Paris, take part in a skydive or abseil.
Fundraising at the start of a brand new school year to give a fun focus for staff and pupils, a corporate challenge to engage staff or even a fundraising event to bring community groups together are just some of the ways you can get involved. Cake sales, sponsored sporting events and fancy dress days are great ways to raise funds in schools, our £50 challenge, payroll giving and charity of the year partnerships are suitable for corporate fundraisers while raffles, coffee mornings and discos are some of the ways individuals and community groups can get involved.
Perhaps consider a challenge with a difference; helping with a local community project such as a trek through the Nepal Himalayas before spending time at a Hospice project in Kathmandu.
Volunteering is also a great way to pledge support for EACH if you can’t

EACH relies on voluntary donations for the majority of their income and needs to raise almost £6 million to deliver their services this year – the equivalent of £16,000 a day, every day of the year. Old Buckenham Players Present... The Death on the Smug Juggler - 26th & 27th September 2014 Someone once famously coined the phrase, ‘And now for something completely different’, and Old Buckenham Players are certainly providing that! Following the huge success of their production ‘My Boy Jack’ by David Haig, Old Buckenham Players present their latest offering ‘The Death On The Smug Juggler’ by Richard Coleman, which certainly lives up to the popular genre title of a ‘Whodunit’?! It’s 1955 and businessmen Theodore Shimmer has invited guests to join him on a cruise of the Nile. With secrets, blackmail and motives galore, it’s no surprise when someone on board is murdered in the strangest of circumstances. After you, the audience, meet characters such as Jack ‘Rusty’ Spring the Retired Private Detective, Josephine Moffatt the fading film star and of course The Duke & Duchess of Snorton-Deverell the epitome of English Aristocracy (in their
minds maybe!) the following question will remain; Can you see through the red herrings and solve the Murder Mystery? Be sure not to miss this chaotic and comedic cruise as it is showing for two nights ONLY so there are limited tickets available! Tickets are only £8 and can be purchased by calling 01953 861336. Performances start at 7.30pm on Friday 26th & Saturday 27th September 2014 at Old Buckenham Village Hall. There’ll be a raffle, audience participation and a very reasonable bar serving a range of drinks. Be sure to enjoy the show with all of your friends & family by taking advantage of our table seating layout! Victory for the Tiffey Valley! For too long and all too often, planning has come to seem like something done TO communities instead of something done BY communities for themselves... That’s why I am delighted to say that my decision to request that the Secretary of State ‘call in’ the decision to build houses in the Tiffey Valley, on the grounds of protecting this precious local amenity and planning permission has paid off, and planning permission has been refused.
for all of those that telephoned my office and also for South Norfolk District Council who were against this proposal. This was truly a team effort.
Well done to everyone involved in this campaign.
MPs don’t normally ‘do’ planning, but I believed this was such an important issue for Wymondham that I decided to do what I could, including going head to head with the developers’ barrister at the end of last year. I am so glad that all the hard work has now paid off. As you know, Wymondham is a jewel of a market town which is putting together a long term Town Plan based on a vibrant local economy and high quality of life, which this development would have undermined. We need housing, but not at the cost of our precious green spaces. This is an enormous victory for those 1000’s of you that signed the on-line petitions against the development, for all those of you that wrote to the Minister,

Opening Of Centrum At Norwich Research Park Norfolk has too often been dismissed by others as something of a rural backwater... My mission as a newly-elected MP in 2010 was to fundamentally change that perception, championing the vibrancy and enterprise of our region in Westminster and beyond. That’s why I was so honoured to be in Norfolk for my first ever visit as the new Minister for Life Sciences, opening the flagship Centrum building. As I have long argued, Norfolk and the Eastern Region have a once-in-a-generation chance to lead the world in the three key markets of food, medicine and energy. With global centres of excellence like the Norwich Research Park, our area is a crucible of innovation and new technologies, making Norfolk a hub for investment. The opening of the Centrum building is a great demonstration of this, bringing jobs into our area and helping demonstrate what all of us who live here know: that, as the campaign group I set up puts it, the best way is the Norfolk Way!

‘Great Taste’ 2014 - East Anglian Results Fruity freshness tickles the taste buds of Great Taste judges Great Taste, the largest blind-tasted food awards scheme, has reached an exciting stage for many producers in East Anglia and results just released show that some of the 3-star winners of 2014 are; a deeply fruity Gooseberry & Limoncello Ice Cream made by Alder Tree, and from Norfolk Saffron an historical drink recipe, King Harry’s Orange & Saffron Liqueur was deemed a “well- judged and perfectly balanced infusion of gin, orange zest and saffron”, while a Passion Fruit Tart made by Gourmandises was described as “an incredibly well made tart which is sharp, short and sweet in equal measure”. Now many producers will wait with baited breath to see if they are in with a chance of the top awards in each region which will be announced at the Great Taste Golden Fork Awards Dinner in London on September 8th. Great Taste is simply about taste, not clever branding or smart packaging. Judges are presented with a spoonful of jam, a pie, a slice of salami, or a cup
of espresso, with no wrappings, jars or marks – and they taste, confer and re-taste before making the decision on whether a product should be a Great Taste 1-, 2- or 3-star winner. Judged by over 400 of the most demanding palates belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, members of the Women’s Institute, producers and a host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. In the words of highly regarded restaurant and food critic Charles Campion, “Great Taste is the only food award worth having”. When a product wears a Great Taste label it carries a badge of honour but more importantly, the Great Taste logo is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product. Hundreds of judges have worked hard to discover the very best food and drink through hours and hours of blind-tasting a total of 10,000 different products.

To find out more, visit the website at: www.tudorbakehouse.co.uk or visit in store at The Street, Long Stratton.
Of those 10,000 entries, only 153 have been awarded Great Taste 3-star. A panel of supremely talented judges including; Masterchef judge and restaurant critic Charles Champion, BBC Food Programme presenter Sheila Dillon, Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn, MasterChef 2013 Natalie Coleman, food buyers from Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Whole Food Markets, and chefs including James Golding, Chef Director of The Pig hotel group, have together re-judged and tasted yet again the 3-star winners to finally agree on the 2014 Top 50 Foods, the Golden Fork Trophy winners as well as the Great Taste Supreme Champion 2014.
Facts and figures about Great Taste: • 10,000 different products entered in 2014 • Judging in Dorset at Guild HQ in Gillingham and several other Dorset venues, also in Belfast, Devon and Middlesex
• 2531 awarded 1-star • 697 awarded 2-star • 153 awarded 3-star The next stage involves; the Top 50 Foods being announced on twitter @guildoffinefood #Top50Foods. Everything Starts With A Choice...
Everyday we are constantly making choices, shall I get up or shall I lay here for just 5 more minutes.... Shall I have a bath or a shower or not bother today? Shall I wear these clothes, or these, shall I put these shoes on or would these be better ? You get the idea. Some choices we make are fairly insignificant and they don’t really have a big impact on our daily lives. These are the choices we routinely make without really thinking about them, and it won’t really make much difference if we choose this or that, life will just carry on regardless, and we won’t really think about what might have happened if we had made a different choice today regarding whatever it is we are thinking about. However, some choices we make can have a lasting effect on our lives, they are dramatic choices, choices we need to stop and think about, choices which can have a lasting effect on our destiny, and it’s these choice we need to think about and make very carefully. We choose how we live our lives, what job we do, our careers, who we work for and what we earn. Ultimately it is our choice. Most people would choose to be rich (you choose the definition of Rich) rather than poor, most people would choose to earn more money than they currently do, and most people would choose to have more family time rather than being at work all the time. So it’s our choice, we choose, but how many of us actually do choose, rather than just accept that’s the way it is. If we all have the choice, why do so many not choose to be better or learn more or earn more or spend more time with family and friends or whatever it would take to make us better than we currently are? If you had to choose right now to be rich or poor, what would you choose? If you choose to be poor that’s great, it’s your choice, you’ve made that decision, so go and get on with it. If you choose to be rich, fantastic, that’s great too, again it’s your choice, now go and get on with that. If you choose to do nothing or choose to change nothing, guess what will happen, correct...nothing, you will stay exactly as you are and nothing will change! If you choose to want to earn more, have more time with your family, relieve some of the stresses and strains of life and you choose to want to have more enjoyment in your life, this is the best choice possible as you have chosen to do something to make a change, and given that you have made the choice I can now help you. So… YOU have chosen to make a change but you’re not sure how; I’d like to introduce you to a fantastic business opportunity that you can work around your other commitments, like your current job or childcare. I’m looking to work closely with just a handful of energetic, ambitious and positive people who have made a choice to create a better life for themselves. People who I can work with, people who are willing to learn, who will attend local training events with me, people who will not find excuses for not earning whatever amount of money they want. I have chosen to do this, and it is one of the best choices I have ever made. I run a total of 4 businesses and I have 2 young children to look after, run to school, after school clubs and weekend activities, yet I still chose to find time to improve my situation. Therefore “I haven’t got time for this” is just an excuse, it’s your choice, but it is just an excuse. If you haven’t got time, choose to get up earlier. Richard Branson only has 24 hours in each of his days, he just chose to be successful. He made that choice! If you want to earn extra money, only YOU can do that. No one else can make it happen, only you. So if you would like to share in my success, earn extra money, build your own business with my help and guidance and actually achieve what you’re really worth, make a choice right now to ring me and I’ll show you how. What have you got to loose? There is no commitment in your looking to see what it’s all about. If you choose to get in touch I can help you and together we will make it happen. If you choose do nothing guess what… nothing will change for you. But it’s your choice, so choose wisely!!

The Fireplace Centre Over past years, Fireplaces and Wood Burning Stoves have come back in to their own as the focal point of many rooms and for both contemporary modern homes as well as traditional period properties, there are stunning designs to suit all tastes. There is so much scope in style and finish for fireplaces today and one of the best places to realise the truth of this is at the new relocated showrooms of “The Fireplace & Plaster Centre” at Brunel Way in Thetford.Established in 1993, they can offer the consumer professional advise on the most suitable choice of Fireplace & Stove for their home, being the only HETAS Approved retailer in Norfolk & North Suffolk. Here choice has never been greater, with Surrounds manufactured from Marble, Limestone, Sandstone, Solid Timbers and Cast Iron, all in different sizes and designs, including Period to Traditional styles through to more Modern and Contemporary styles, offering superb finishes to any rooms. Here you will find over 50 displays complimented by a superb range of Wood Burning & Multi-Fuel Stoves, natural looking coal effect gas fires, as well as a vast range of Electric Fires. There are even Gas Fires if you have no chimney. This is an ideal place to find new ideas to give your home that very individual look with the addition of a new
fireplace which can even be made bespoke to your requirements. They offer a full and professional installation service, having their own In-House HETAS installers, which has to comply with the current building regulations. Anybody wishing to have a Solid Fuel Appliance installed must have the installation carried-out by an installer who is HETAS registered so as to conform to building regulations, if not, approval from local building control must be sought, which can sometimes be more costly than having “The Fireplace & Plaster Centre” do the work Failure to carry out this will result in your building & contents insurances possibly becoming invalid. The company also offer a professional Chimney Sweeping Service, from their NACS trained In-House engineers, using the latest PowerSweeping equipment, which is much more thorough than traditional methods, giving a cleaner and more efficient flue. www.fireplaceandplastercentre.co.uk

Keeping Fit!
Manorcourt Daycare
Even in older age, fitness is very important. Check out a few ways that you can look after yourself.
...is a community based 7 hour care centre; it is set in a detached building within the village location of Griston close to the market town of Watton, in the Breckland district of Norfolk.
Looking to try a different way to keep fit, but don’t know your Gyrotonic from your Tai Chi? We lead you through some of the most popular exercise classes. Aerobic and step classes PRO: Great for beginners and the more advanced CON: Watch out for muscle strain. Warm up and down properly Aerobics classes, which are generally a high or low-impact workout to set music, allow you to exercise at your own level to improve your cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. Step classes burn calories quickly and help to tone the lower part of your body as you go up and down the step in front of you. The higher you have the step, the harder it is. Aqua aerobics is the same as aerobics, albeit in the shallow end of the pool. As your body weight is supported by the water, the impact is reduced, so it’s ideal for those with joint problems, exercise newcomers or those who are overweight. Pilates PRO: Increases flexibility, circulation and balance CON: Not for those with chronic injuries and no subsitiute for general cardiovascular exercise. Founded by Joseph Pilates in 1880 as a way to strengthen his body after a childhood beset by illness, Pilates is a form of strength and flexibility training open to anyone, no matter how fit they are. Helping to promote physical and mental wellbeing it’s also a huge aid for physical awareness, improving posture, circulation and balance. By training the core abdominal and back muscles, it helps to stabilise your torso and allows your entire body to move freely. For people who are more sedentary than most, Pilates is a gentle, non-impact exercise.
control through different poses. Viniyoga (also known as vinyasa) is probably the most gentle form of yoga, focusing on co-ordinating breathing with movement. Increasingly used for injury rehabilitation, it’s an excellent choice for beginners. A similarly gentle choice is Kundalini yoga. For those after a more rigorous workout there’s always Bikram yoga, in which the room is heated to anything between 85°F and 100°F. Be warned though, it’s hard work. The same goes for Ashtanga yoga, which offers a fast-paced series of sequential poses. Physically demanding, it builds strength, flexibility and stamina as you move from one posture to another in a continual flow, linking the movements to your breathing. Gyrotonic PRO: Excellent for injury rehab and those with back pain CON: Classes an be costly and hard to find A favourite of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, Gyrotonic is a cross between swimming, ballet, gymnastics, Pilates and yoga.
Manorcourt Daycentre specializes in a service for individuals aged 50+ who require time out at an independent facility which allows individuals the freedom to be an independent person within their own right. Our goal is to provide a high quality and flexible 7 hour therapeutic day-care service for those individuals who currently live within the community but it is also a service for those individuals who have a caring role to play and need a reliable support system which allows them as a carer, time out from their caring role. The service is staffed by trained staff that uses therapeutic activities with the primary goal of supporting self expression and communication; it provides a social and enjoyable day out from home, it’s the perfect opportunity for individuals and staff to make new friends and enjoy regular social interaction. The aim of Manorcourt Daycare is to promote a high standard of service which promotes independence at
all times and one which recognizes the unique value every person has. Within this we encourage the building of positive relationships with the individual, their family and friends. We work closely with outside agencies, the individual’s doctor’s surgeries, social services and other relevant agencies. Since the day centre was first developed it has changed consistently with the care needs of it users; from relocating to a purpose building in 2004, a gradual development of dementia services and now in 2013 we will be developing the service further by offering a extended sensory garden, a 1950’s style living room for enablement and dementia services and refurbished hairdressing facilities. Alongside these new developments we will be offering an outreach /signposting service for those who do not wish to take up the opportunities with the centre. Sunrise Healthcare Ltd. Quality care in your own home According to the Royal College of General Practitioners it is estimated that seven million people in the UK alone currently provide unpaid care to a sick or disabled child or an adult who could not otherwise live independently within the community. About 40% of these carers are thought to be at risk of depression or stress because of their caring role. Sometimes the strain can be so much that residential care seems the only solution. This problem is so great that the government has called for carers to be routinely screened for signs of depression by their GP to ensure their health needs are not neglected. For many people that care for a family member, friend or relative deciding when to place them into a care home is one of the most difficult decisions that they will ever have to face. Many carers report that the feelings of guilt associated with even contemplating reaching such a decision can be
tremendous and must never be understated, and that this is often made impossible by the elderly persons own fear of going into a care home.
Our aim is to help people to stay as independent as possible, as long as possible in the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Many carers feel overwhelmed with the burden of looking after someone and often feel that everything is on their shoulders and that they are all alone and must somehow find a way to soldier on.
At Sunrise Healthcare we provide high quality, reliable Domestic and Personal care and support to adults with varying needs in their own homes within South Norfolk.
