When Should You Invest? At Richard Allington Kitchens When the markets fall it is quite often the best time to invest and the markets have recently fallen. Now could be a good time! The markets have been in turmoil and there are big questions over the financial stability of several countries in Europe. This has a negative effect on the markets but historically the markets do not fall all the time, so hopefully there will be a recovery. We have a strategy at ML Financial Associates for selecting a client’s investments and for reviewing them regularly so we can help them make the right choices. Quite often the right choice can be to invest when the market has fallen or phasing your investment to spread the risk. Please speak to us about these options. Your ISA should do more than just save you tax. You will hopefully want your savings to grow or have income from your ISA’s. Having a diversified portfolio, with regular reviews and updates will hopefully help
you achieve this. Having a return on our client’s investments is important to us. We offer face to face advice and are independent so that we can offer solutions from the whole of the market place. Having an ISA is not just about saving tax so please check the return you are getting to see if that is satisfactory. Getting the right advice in respect of pension options makes a significant difference to your standard of living. Often people accept the offer from their pension provider without shopping around for the best deal. Medically assessed annuities can improve your retirement income, sometimes by up to 30%. You do not have to use your pension fund to purchase an annuity at retirement. You may wish to explore keeping the fund invested and drawing an income from your fund. Some may wish to consider purchasing a commercial property as an income producing asset within their pension. A commercial property doesn’t just mean a shop or an office. An Interview With.... Your Elite VA up a VA business seemed the next obvious step. In the current tough economic climate many businesses can’t afford experienced, reliable staff, my VA business gives them access to quality support, which is essential to the smooth running of any business, and gives me the opportunity to help several businesses at once.
Above: Marianne, Your Elite VA How long have you lived in the area? I’m Norfolk born and bred and apart from five years away living in Sussex, Gloucestershire and Suffolk, I have lived in Norfolk all my life.
What inspired you to start your Virtual Assistant business? I’m an experienced Personal Assistant who is good at her job and loves the challenge of organisation, so starting
Can you explain what a Virtual Assistant is? A Virtual Assistant (VA) is a Personal Assistant who works from his/her own premises carrying out all the duties of a PA (and more) but without the cost and commitment of an employed member of staff. A Virtual Assistant is your right-hand person helping you succeed in organising your business.

their own set of criteria; people to communicate with, and working practice. It is important to me that my clients do not feel they are just another email address.
How can you help a business save money?
I want them to feel that I am their PA and that I work for them alone.
Not all businesses want or need a permanent office-based assistant and in this current climate there is a need to keep a tight control on costs.
I find it very satisfying to know that I have helped a client’s business grow because they are no longer spending (wasting) time on administration that they are loathe to do, or do not have the time to do.
‘Your Elite VA’ can support businesses at a fraction of the cost of employing a member of staff or a temp as there are no PAYE, NI, holiday, sick pay or redundancy costs. Outsourcing your administrative tasks to a VA relieves the pressure and means more time spent on running and developing your business.
Why not use a temp?

This gives back precious time to concentrate on business building activities. How do you see your business evolving? I hope to increase my VA associates in order to maintain and expand my client base and build my reputation. Most of all, I wish to be proud of what I do and provide a quality service to a wide range of clients. Above all, my business will always be firmly client driven. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Well, there’s organising my own business of course! Aside from that I volunteer and support local and national animal charities, for example I help update information concerning missing pets. Many smaller charities cannot afford to pay for experienced staff so I like to help where I can.

Downham Market Water Festival
Offer fixed fees for family law services.
Plans for Downham Market Water Festival are well under way. With free admission for spectators, a host of on-shore activities and an array of arena events, Sunday 5th August is a date not to be missed!
We at Hood Vores & Allwood recognise that Separation and Divorce can be a painful and unsettling time for you and your children, both emotionally and financially. Many individuals are familiar with the Legal Aid, but are unaware that the legal costs incurred under this scheme are often repayable by you upon conclusion of your case, plus interest currently at 8%. There is no way of knowing accurately how much these charges might be. We recognise that this gives cause for uncertainty. Hood Vores & Allwood understands that having to repay your legal costs from your divorce settlement can restrict your planning for the future and impact on your financial position after divorce. Family law work can be unpredictable in terms of legal costs, which is why, where possible, we have devised a range of Fixed Fee Services for certain areas of our
work. Our Specialist Family Law Team is committed to helping you through this difficult time by offering an affordable service without comprising your best interests. We offer fixed fees for the following service areas: • Divorce proceedings • Cohabitation agreements • Separation agreements • Pre-marital /nuptial agreements • Parental Responsibility agreements. Contemplating Moving From Your Old House? Your present home might not have the room you require or be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. You may be thinking - would it be better to move? Especially if your house has started to cost you money for the upkeep of it. So should you move or remodel your home? Cost is probably the number one factor in determining your decision. When asking yourself this question remember the “hidden” costs of moving i.e. Estate Agent commissions, Mortgage fees, Legal fees, movers and vans, and having to finish all those projects that must be done in order to sell your home. It is hard to find a house with everything that you require. When you buy there will be some compromises and when actually living there, you will find problems that you didn’t notice when viewing the house. and may well end up changing the new home down the road. The reality is you can make your house the perfect place to live by considering home renovating repairs. Deal with the existing problems you have first, by

having a good maintenance repair plan. Do not add anything new to your home until you’ve had any issues resolved/repaired first. Think about having energy efficient windows fitted, this will help your home to use less energy and make the running costs lower. Replacing your home with new UPVC Fascias, Soffits and Gutters will give your roof an attractive and unified appearance and keep it looking aesthetically pleasing. It will also protect your Rafters from the elements. Bird comb will keep birds from nesting in your rafters. Replacement will also free you from the burden of having to repaint your fascias and soffits. You could then think about a kitchen renovation and/or a bathroom renovation or even room additions.
But given that you’ve chosen to stay in the house, you will need to look at your routines to find out what’s missing. As Summer is fast approaching, it’s a good time to create your perfect outdoor living space. Garden patios and decking have never been more popular. There are now an increasing number of styles of garden paving and garden products dedicated to help you gain the maximum amount of use and enjoyment from your patio garden. Synergy Solar Systems ACT NOW DEADLINE APPROACHING. Wymondham Tree Services Trees play an important role in more ways than we may appreciate. Apart from the obvious visual value, they are very important to man, wildlife, the environment and the climate. Trees take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis. Their canopy provides shade and shelter. This can be useful to both humans and animals, providing respite from the sun and rain. Trees may be used as a screen to offer privacy and/or to muffle noise. Farmers often plant lines of poplar trees to act as a wind break and in the past trees were used to mark field boundaries. The tree itself provides food for many creatures large and small. Some feed off the tree directly and some in turn feed of those. A mature oak tree is believed to produce in excess of 50,000 acorns and support over 300 different species of insect. A true wildlife larder. A single jay is thought to collect and store up 5000 acorns in a season.
July 2012
Trees, particularly old native species, provide valuable habitats for bats, which are generally in decline in this country. They harbour food and can act as vital navigational aids and roost sites. Then of course there is the timber. Although we import much of our timber, vast amounts of UK grown timber/wood is used each year. Trees in an urban environment however often need management. A tree surgeon/arborist can be vital in this process as tree surgery and felling is a harzardous undertaking, particularly for a DIYer. Additionally, improper pruning can be detrimental to the tree itself. Wymondham Tree Services will be pleased to assist you in the management of your trees and hedges.

Our new water-efficient eco showers use technology that can produce water flows that feel far higher than they actually are an easy way to save both water and energy. They are most effective on power and mixer showers with a high flow rate.Showering more often will greatly reduce water bills. Reduced-capacity baths A standard bath has a capacity of around 150 litres, so even when it’s less than half full it uses a lot of water. If you’re buying a new bath, lookout for our eco baths with a lower capacity. Of course, you can always save water and money by taking a quick shower instead of a bath.
Low-flush and dual-flush toilets About 30% of all water used in dwellings is flushed down the toilet every day. Our Low-flush and dual-flush toilets are designed to reduce the volume of water used for flushing. These systems use up to six litres less water per flush than an oldfashioned toilet - saving over 16,000 litres of water per year (enough to fill seven red telephone boxes). Lower flow taps Our eco low flow rate designer bathroom taps can be fitted to all bathrooms and washrooms. They have a click flow regulator on the control handle which reduces water flow by some 35% but still have a stylish look. Tiffey Valley Garden Services July can be one of the warmest months so the main theme this month is regular watering. Remember to scratch the surface of the soil to get as much water to the root as possible; and why not consider a water soluble feed/fertiliser to really help your grass green up. Continue to mow once a week at a low setting but raise the mower blades in prolonged dry spells. If your lawn is already in good condition, another idea is to leave the grass collection box off two or three times this month to allow a shallow mulch. Clover runners and other invasive weeds can really take a hold this month so before mowing, run a spring tine rake over your lawn to catch the runners, find and remove their root. Keep your lawn edges and borders looking great by taking ten minutes to run around with a half moon spade ( if you don’t have one, then an ordinary garden spade and a length of wood does just as good ).

HEALTH & WELLBEING 23
Haircare For The Summer About Aroma Beauty Clinic Whether you’re going on holiday, playing with the kids or out in the garden, or simply relaxing in the sun, one thing you may not be taking into consideration is your hair. The sun really goes to work on your hair, using a process called ‘oxidisation’ it damages the hair shaft and causes it to lose its pigment, a similar process to the one that put those blonde highlights in your hair as a teenager. This, combined with chemical processes like perming and colouring, and styling processes like straightening and blow-drying can really drag down the overall health of your hair. But, you needn’t stay in the house, we have some great tips for looking after your hair this summer. • Wear a hat, protecting your hair from the sun will prevent bleaching
• If you know you’re going to be in the sun for long, leave a little ‘leave-in conditioner’ in before going out (if you forget, sun cream will do the job for a while) • Use fewer ‘hot’ items like curling tongs and straighteners • Avoid hot showers and washing your hair with hot water • Drink more water, staying hydrated will keep your hair healthier
Aroma Beauty Clinic recommends the use of Decleor and Crystal Clear products for all skin care.
• Wet your hair before going into a pool with chlorine, it will prevent the absorption of the bleach.
Both offering superb anti-ageing formulas giving fabulous results.

SOCIAL MEDIA 25
Social Media Platforms There has been much talk in the press about how popular various social media platforms really are; how many people use Facebook in the UK? Does Twitter have more active accounts than Flickr? Is anyone over 40 interested in Foursquare? To remove any lingering doubt as to the popularity and importance of social media platforms, we conducted research with Your Say Pays, who asked nearly 2,400 UK adults which social media platforms they used and how often.
Just over three quarters (77 per cent) of the UK’s adult population have an active Facebook profile, equating to around 37.4 million adult users. 32 per cent also had a profile with Twitter, which they regularly used.
We then analysed the results to bring what we believe is the most up-to-date snapshot of social media usage in the UK.
Location-based platforms such as Foursquare were used by around 7.2 million people with a similar number also making use of photosharing platform Flickr (6.7 million) and professional network LinkedIn (7.9 million).
The survey, which was conducted by polling agency Your Say Pays amongst 2,387 UK adults in July, asked how frequently respondents used a selection of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube and location based platforms such as Foursquare.
95 per cent of 18 - 25s having an active Facebook profile, with this figure dropping significantly to 55 per cent of over 65s. LinkedIn came out on top however, being most popular amongst the 18 - 24 year old age bracket.
Northern Ireland, however, saw the highest percentages of those using YouTube, with three quarters of all those surveyed stating that they frequently used the video sharing site, as opposed to just 59 per cent of those in the South West.
Almost a quarter (23 per cent) of all 25 - 34-year-olds have an active LinkedIn profile, but just 14 per
On average, the South East boasted the highest numbers of people using social media platforms.
Women, our results revealed, were more likely to have active Facebook accounts but men, on the other hand, were more likely to use LinkedIn and location-based platforms such as Foursquare. Age is a factor in the use of social media, but research revealed that over half, (55 percent) of pensionable adults in the UK are using Facebook on a regular basis, with a third also using Youtube regularly.
cent of under 24s, demonstrating the platform’s success in attracting more mature users keen to connect on a professional level and further their careers.
“The social media landscape is changing rapidly and gender divides are starting to become apparent, with men clearly favouring YouTube and LinkedIn, but women opting to use Facebook as their chosen medium of communication.” “Our research clearly shows how geography is playing a key role in social media adoption, with distinct geographical areas beginning to favour different social media platforms to communicate with their networks.” At Dispatch Magazine we have a team of Social Media professionals who are on hand to help you and your business get set up on all the Social Media platforms. 2011 was certainly an eventful year for Feline Care Cat Rescue after being faced with closure. A staggering £70,000 had to be raised in just 14 weeks to buy the premises and a group of Trustees brought together to establish Feline Care as a registered charity in their own right. Feline Care, with the help of their supporters, did just that and only recently has the land conveyancing and all official paper work been completed. Feline Care is now looking forward to a bright and successful future! John Rimmer, founder of JPR Decorating Specialist, has been keen to do his bit to support the charity after they found him help with his own cat and spotted an opportunity to give Feline Care a real fresh start. John went out of his way to contact paint suppliers across Norfolk and was astounded by the generosity of businesses who donated a staggering £1,500 of paint supplies; from tins of paint to dust sheets and paint brushes!
July 2012
He also himself kindly donated paint tools, paint pots and fillers to name just a few. JPR Decorating Specialist established in 1998 offers a full range of painting and decorating services throughout Norfolk and Suffolk. The rescued cats at Feline Care will be treated to a fabulous make over to celebrate and look to the future thanks to John Rimmer and his suppliers. The centre, near East Harling, is set in over three acres and is home to over 120 cats at any one time. Most of the areas haven’t been painted since the facility was built in the late 90’s so an upgrade is desperately needed. Feline Care has been overwhelmed by the support, generosity and kindness of so many people; both locally, nationally and internationally and would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you.

Improves Memory and Increases Brain Size in the Elderly.
NBR Scooter Brokers is a family run business which prides itself on their commitment to their customers (existing and new!!)
Scientists at the University of South Florida conducted an 8 month trial using random members of the elderly population, their intention was to compare the brain activity of people who practiced Tai Chi against those who didn’t. In previous trials they discovered the brain size increased in people who practiced aerobics, and in a small percentage of the people who took part there were also signs of memory improvement. People in the same age group (in their 60’s and 70’s) who did not practise any form of aerobic exercise showed brain shrinkage, although this brain shrinkage was consistent with that expected from people of this age. It is believed that a correlation lies between cognitive deterioration, such as dementia, and the increasing shrinkage of the brain that comes with old age.
“The ability to reverse this trend with physical exercise and increased mental activity implies that it may be possible to delay the onset of dementia in older persons through interventions that have many physical and mental health benefits,” said lead author Dr. James Mortimer at the University of South Florida College of Public Health. The University’s findings brought up the question of weather or not simple, regular aerobic exercises would be able to contribute to the prevention of dieses like Alzheimer’s, which is currently the most common form of dementia in the elderly. “Epidemiologic studies have shown repeatedly that individuals who engage in more physical exercise or are more socially active have a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease,” Dr. Mortimer

Mazda3 1.6D TS2 By Tim Barnes-Clay Twitter: @carwriteups Visit: www.carwriteups.co.uk. THE MAZDA3 1.6 oil-burner is a perfectly adequate hatchback. It pulls more powerfully than you might expect, and the drive is actually quite engaging. On start up, the diesel engine sounds a little harsh but, on the move, the engine noise doesn’t overly intrude on any conversation you might be having with your passengers. The clutch is surprisingly heavy for a mid-sized family hatch and the ride is too firm at times but, on the plus side, the Mazda3 holds the road well and the car cruises very nicely on motorways. The Mazda3 is big enough for a family of four. Your adult passengers won’t be stretching their legs out in the back, but they won’t be doing that in any medium sized car. Access to the rear is particularly good in the five door version of the 3; if you’re a parent of young children, you’ll notice that the doors open wide enough for you to lean in and secure your offspring in their seats easily. Another tick in the box for this Japanesemade car is the load area - the boot is deep and wide allowing, for example, a folded pushchair to be lifted in without any hassle.
July 2012
Aesthetically, the Mazda3 is appealing; in fact, it has had a makeover for 2012, giving it a more muscular, aerodynamic, look. It has a new face, a different rear bumper and it features up-to-the-minute ‘twist-spoke’ alloy wheels. Inside, there are fresh materials and Mazda’s designers have replaced the previous silver colour of the lower dashboard console with black. Behind the wheel, the dials and controls have been ringed in satin-polish silver, making them clearer to see. As well as general improvements to its appearance, and little tweaks here and there to make it even more driver friendly, the Mazda3’s fuel economy has been enhanced. If you’re careful, you can
now get a maximum of 65.7 mpg out of the hatchback. This is impressive – and largely due to the new model’s refined aerodynamics. The TS2 model comes well equipped with front fog lights, dusk-sensing lights and rain-sensing front wipers. It also has Integrated Bluetooth, a heated windscreen and cruise control.
PROS • • • •
Economical Good looking Cruises well Decent-sized boot
CONS • Heavy clutch FAST FACTS
But you won’t get much change out of £20,000 if you want a brand new Mazda3 with this level of kit and a turbo diesel under the bonnet. The 1.6D TS2 will set you back £18,295. Still, in today’s market, that’s actually pretty competitive.
