OFFICIAL JUBILEE PROGRAMME
FOR WYMONDHAM
Wymondham Jubilee Celebrations The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations will take place 2nd to 5th June 2012. This will celebrate 60 years since the Queen’s coronation on 2nd June 1953. The only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897 so this is a once in a lifetime chance to join with the whole country to commemorate this important milestone. As well as large events it is hoped that small celebrations such as street parties, fetes and exhibitions will be organised over the bank holiday weekend so that everyone can get involved.

Jerusalem
Land of hope and glory, mother of the free,
And did those feet in ancient time
How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
Walk upon england’s mountain green?
Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set.
And was the holy lamb of god
God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.
On england’s pleasant pastures seen?
God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.
And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
Land of hope and glory, mother of the free,
And was jerusalem builded here
How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
Among those dark satanic mills?
Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set. God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.
Bring me my bow of burning gold!
God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.
Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Rule, Britannia! Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves! Britons never, never, never shall be slaves. When Britain first, at heaven’s command, Arose from out the azure main, This was the charter of the land, And Guardian Angels sang this strain:
Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built jerusalem In england’s green and pleasant land.
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves! Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
God Save The Queen
The nations not so blest as thee Must, in their turn, to tyrants fall, While thou shalt flourish great and free: The dread and envy of them all.
God save our gracious Queen
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves! Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
Send her victorious
Still more majestic shalt thou rise, More dreadful from each foreign stroke, As the loud blast that tears the skies Serves but to root thy native oak.
Long to reign over us
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves! Britons never, never, never shall be slaves. Thee haughty tyrants ne’er shall tame; All their attempts to bend thee down Will but arouse thy generous flame, But work their woe and thy renown. Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves! Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
Long live our noble Queen God save the Queen Happy and glorious God save the Queen Thy choicest gifts in store On her be pleased to pour Long may she reign May she defend our laws And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice God save the Queen
The Jubilee Celebrations commence with a trip down memory lane with an antiques fair and auction, and classic and vintage cars in the Market Place. There will be an opportunity for residents to have their antiques valued and put into an auction that will run throughout the morning. At midday, a parade from Town Green to the Market Place will signal the launch a street party for the town’s children. The parade is expected to have a colourful variety of floats, children in fancy dress and Wymondham’s own ‘royal’ family. Throughout the afternoon there will be a mix of entertainment from a variety of local organisations and a traditional ‘Olde English Fayre’. In addition to the activities centred around the Market Place there will be events around the town. In the Arts Centre there will be a free walk-in art workshop for families with children to create something to represent the Jubilee and all materials will be supplied. Don’t forget with a full day of celebrations, the town will be closed to through traffic from 8am until 5pm, and although disruption to businesses will be kept to a minimum, the committiee apologise in advance for any inconvenience that might arise on the day.
