WYMONDHAM Too Many Crooks A classic British crime caper from 1958 will be the Regal Experience Group’s first show this year at the Wymondham Ex-Services’ Club ( Regal Cinema ). The screening will be on Sunday 18th March (2.30pm). The hilarious Too Many Crooks, which tells the story of a neglected wife who helps incompetent kidnappers rob her tax-evading husband, features an excellent car chase. A host of British stars appear, including Terry Thomas, George Cole, Bernard Bresslaw, Sidney James, John Le Mesurier, Nicholas Parsons and Terry Scott, as well as Vera Day who will be making a personal appearance at the show. Vera began her movie career in the early 1950s and appeared in films and on TV right through to the cult Lock

Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998. She has starred with some of the movie greats from Peter Sellers to Stanley Baker and, a bubbly blonde, she was once billed as Britain’s answer to Marilyn Monroe. Indeed, Vera appeared with Marilyn and Sir Laurence Olivier in Olivier’s 1957 movie The Prince and The Showgirl and she has some interesting tales to tell about Marilyn. Incidentally, the recently acclaimed movie’ my week with Marilyn’ was set during the shooting of The Prince and The Showgirl. The supporting documentary sees Sid James taking a fascinating tour of London markets around 1960.
Tickets for the show are available from Simply Cards in Market Street, Wymondham, and by ringing Maureen Dodman (01953 605593) or Michael Armstrong (01953 603246). They are priced £5 (£4 concessions).

The Stigma About Hearing Loss One in six people in the UK experience hearing problems, equating to just over 10 million people! What’s even more worrying than this statistic, is the big stigma that still looms over the use of hearing aids, and the fact that many people with a hearing loss just don’t do anything about it. Many hearing-impaired people are subject to much prejudice and misconceptions: “they are old”, “less intelligent”, or “they only hear what they want to hear”. This just isnt true. Many people also think that hearing aids are unsightly, uncomfortable and expensive. In the past this was true. However hearing aid technology of today, has brought endless solutions to this problem. There is now a wide range of hearing instruments, some so tiny they fit completely inside your ear and cannot be seen. Hearing loss is a form of disability and our natural reaction is to shy away from admitting it’s actually happening to us. In the majority of cases the degeneration is gradual, so much so that we don’t realise how bad the situation has become until someone else points
it out for us. If people can relate to this problem and haven’t sought professional help then make a point of doing so. Contact your local audiologist and book a simple hearing assessment. The improvement to your quality of life will be dramatic. Half Price Hearing Tests The Hearing Care Centre have recently opened 4 new hearing care practices in the local area and to celebrate they are offering Dispatch Magazine readers the chance to have their hearing tested for just £10 (that’s 50% off!). The offer is available throughout March 2012 at the following locations: Cecil Amey Opticians, 11 Church Street, ATTLEBOROUGH Cecil Amey Opticians, 33b The Thoroughfare, HARLESTON Cecil Amey Opticians, 8 Market Street, WYMONDHAM

Love Wymondham Day Wymondham reflected the theme of Valentine’s Day on Saturday (February 11th) by staging it’s first “Love Wymondham” event. A short play entitled “Lonely Hearts” was performed in the Courtyard Café in Whartons Court by Richard Crawley and Georgette Vale, together with readings by local poet, Tina Chamberlain, in the Norfolk dialect. Members of the 4th Wymondham Guides sold homemade, heart-shaped biscuits, to raise funds for their summer trip to Derbyshire and Wymondham Warblers serenaded customers at Rudy’s Pizzeria, in nearby Griffin Court, with some well-known love songs. Emma Green, a staff member at the event sponsors, the
Heart of Wymondham pub, became “Queen of the Heart” for the day, to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. She was presented with a posy of flowers by Anna Pickwell of Wymondham florists, Ragged Robin. The National Blood and Transplant Service also took part by displaying their mobile information unit at the Market Cross. The event was co-ordinated by locally based Activity Team, who specialise in linking businesses to their local community.

Air Ambulance Charities ‘Extended hours’ collaboration proves a success. A unique collaboration between the East of England’s two Air Ambulance Charities, East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT) to provide an extended service during the longer summer days has been shown to be successful with an additional 75 missions flown by the charities’ helicopters during the period. Our Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) pilots are scheduled to work a maximum of 10 hours on a shift so, during the summer, when days are at their longest, key hours of daylight, for instance during the morning and evening rush hours, can be left with no cover. By linking up and staggering their Crew start times, both Charities, each of which operate two helicopters, were able to provide a HEMS service from 7.00am to 9.00pm or sunset, whichever occurred first, right across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire between April and September. Missions they were able to support during the extended hours service included road traffic collisions
in the morning and evening rush hours as well as cardiac arrests and falls from height. The EAAA has two aircraft, based at Norwich and Cambridge Airports serving Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire and flies highly trained Doctor/Paramedic crews. EHAAT operates two aircraft, based at Earls Colne and North Weald Airfields and also flies Doctor/Paramedic Crews. Both Charities are tasked to the scene of major trauma and medical emergencies across the region by the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST). Tim Page, Chief Executive of the EAAA, said: “This is a great example of how charities can work collaboratively, in this case with our partner, the East of England NHS Ambulance Trust, to provide enhanced pre-hospital care across our region. We’re delighted that the scheme was a success and are also keen to explore similar initiatives that raise standards of patient care. We’re grateful to everyone in the region who helps to support both charities. We couldn’t
do it without you.” Commenting on the partnership, Cliff Gale, EHAAT Operations Director, said: “It took a lot of planning to implement the extended service but the results speak for themselves. By getting to incidents quickly and starting lifesaving treatment at the scene our Crews can make a real difference at major incidents and emergencies. By working together we were able to make a bigger contribution to patient care and outcome over a longer period. We will look to repeating this exercise this year and also explore other partnership working initiatives.” Tim Daniels, East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust Air Operations Manager, said: “EEAST is delighted with the progressive working partnership with the EAAA and EHAAT and would like to praise both organisations for the hard work that made the extended flying hours last year such a success. We are very keen to continue this work to ensure we deliver consistent and appropriate specialist care 24/7 across the East of England.”

Wymondham Players’
The Green Dragon
April Production will be Noel Coward’s wonderful astral comedy “Blithe Spirit”
We had another successful Valentines evening at The Green Dragon and are now looking at plans for the Summer, with Beer Festivals, Wymondham Music Festival, and maybe another charity day.
Written to raise the ‘spirits’ of the British people in the dark wartime days of 1941, Coward described this play as “an improbable farce”. The action takes place in the living room of the Condomine’s house in 1930’s Kent, and the period is invoked by the setting and costumes, together with the ‘plummy’ accents and Coward’s typically witty dialogue. The play is as much a take on love and marriage as on death and the afterlife. The title comes from Percy Shelley’s poem ‘Ode to a Skylark’ – “Hail to the blithe spirit, bird thou never wert ..”
efforts to disrupt Charles’s current marriage, while he finds the whole thing jolly amusing. As the play unfolds, the tension between Charles and Ruth increases, and she even threatens to call the Archbishop of Canterbury as a last resort to get rid of Elvira. The plot has more twists than a roller coaster and is a hilarious three-way repartee, but culminates in a spectacular ending. The final member of the cast, Edith, the Condomine’s new maid, has some wonderful comic moments, and her secret is not revealed until the end of the play. The Future Of Wymondham Music Festival At a well-attended annual public meeting on Monday 6th February plans were outlined for a full and exciting Wymondham Music Festival in 2012, with an attractive programme brochure already being prepared for public launch at the beginning of May. Although the Festival’s present size and style will continue for the following year or two, Chairman John Wood gave notice that there will be changes in the 20-strong organising team in the next few years. These may have consequences for the nature of this major event in Wymondham’s social and cultural calendar.
publicity will be given to the call for new members, preparatory work will be done on procedures, systems and records, and volunteers who come forward will be briefed and given the chance to play a part at once in running the Festival on present lines. But what emerges may look very different from what we have now.”
Most trustees and some committee members are now well into pensionable age, many have been with the Festival for 15 years or more and some have expressed a wish to step back from the work involved in running a festival of the present kind. The Trustees and committee have decided to start a process of change intended to put a new management team in place within the next five years. Some of the present team wish to retire, some to take less onerous roles, some are very happy to continue. But it is essential that new members come forward to provide the Festival with new people, new ideas and new vitality.
He added; “If this process does not result in finding a new team then the Festival as we will have known it for 20 years will cease. However, the charity will continue. The trust deed does not refer specifically to running a festival and the objects refer only in general terms to music education. The Trustees could decide to offer other services to music in the Wymondham area, and a festival could be revived whenever there was the enthusiasm to do so.
John Wood said: “The Festival team hope that many of these changes will have taken place by 2016. Meanwhile wide

Cult classics, black & white greats and BAFTA winner Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Breckland’s second Festival will bring the best of British film to a venue near you!
The Breckland Sports Coach Development Bursary scheme, designed to celebrate London 2012, will help aspiring sports coaches to gain qualifications in a number of sports disciplines. Those who wish to obtain a coaching qualification in a ‘priority sport’ can obtain funding for 75% (up to £300) of the cost of the course; those applying for qualifications in other sports can receive 50% (up to £150).
Beginning on 3rd March the ‘2012 Breckland British Film Festival’ will celebrate the quality, unique humour and diversity of the great British film industry from the 1950’s to the present day. support and training covering aspects such as promotion, pricing and ticket sales. Lynda Turner, Breckland Council Executive Member for Localism, Community and Environmental Health said: “We are fortunate to have so many enthusiastic and energetic individuals and groups in Breckland - seven new voluntary promoter groups came forward to support the 2012 Festival. We have found that local involvement makes all the difference to turnout so I’m sure that we’ll have another blockbuster on our hands this year”. Programmes giving details of the nine films to be screened at rural venues throughout the district can be picked up at libraries, council offices, tourist information centres and from the local promoters of each screening. Alternatively, look on the Breckland website, or call Sam Dawson 01362 656870 for more details.

Legal & Financial Services Hood Vores & Allwood Solicitors Offer fixed fees for family law services. We at Hood Vores & Allwood recognise that Separation and Divorce can be a painful and unsettling time for you and your children, both emotionally and financially. The Importance Of Making A Will
Make The Best Use Of Your Tax Allowances!
Making a Will enables you to provide for specific intentions that you have for the division or disposal of your property, money and possessions upon your death.
It is important to make sure that you make the best use of your tax allowances.
A Will is particularly important when you need to: • Provide for your children • Provide for an elderly or disabled relative • Make provision for a friend • Make a gift to charity • Minimise administration costs • Minimise tax liabilities If you die without a Will that is valid you will be regarded as having died ‘intestate’, which could mean that matters are not handled in the way that you would have wished. With our ‘In Home’ service you do not need to take time off work to visit the solicitor. A trained Estate Planning Consultant will take your Will instructions in the comfort and privacy of your own home at a time to suit you. All documentation is drawn up by Overburys Solicitors, a long established local solicitor’s practice, who
are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. This ensures that you receive the best possible protection and know that your Will has been correctly prepared to the highest possible standards. Here at Overburys In Home, our experienced team will ensure that your Will expresses your wishes in a clear and concise manner and is legally valid. We can also advise you on related matters such as: • Inheritance and taxation laws • Appointing executors and guardians • Making gifts and setting up trusts • Marriage and separation • Changing and updating your Will To make an appointment contact our Diss office on 01379 641221 quoting Dispatch or email dispatchenquiries@ overburysinhome.com.

This is especially relevant if you receive pension income from multiple sources, as these can often be missed and if you pay into a pension and are also a higher rate tax payer. If you are married, where possible, you should attempt to make sure that your income is spread between both individuals to ensure that you both use your allowances to help towards avoiding paying to much tax. If you are married and one of you is over 65 years of age, the allowances increase so try to utilise the older spouse’s allocation to its full limit.

Were you busy in January? We were, we completed lots of self assessment tax returns. We helped our clients get organised and filed their tax returns before the deadline. The reason why? Because this year HMRC got tough! Although 2 days were added, if you submitted your tax return even one day late, the fine was £100. Plus there are no refunds even if you owe nothing. Don’t put your return off because the penalties get worse. Leave it
till after 30th April and you get charged £10 per day, up to 90 days, and then more penalties apply. It could all get very expensive.Plus if you are an employer did you know that PAYE is also changing? You will soon have to provide more information and pay sooner. If you want more information or are concerned please email or give us a call, we want to help you save money and get things right.

Synergy Solar Systems Ltd The directors of Synergy Solar Systems both had been concerned for some time by the selling techniques and the quality of work seen from some of the companies in the industry. So Synergy Solar Systems Ltd was born. She told me she once sold a picture of a traction engine to a man who used to follow it as a child on his bicycle. These country scenes are popular with the visitors and many come from all parts of the county to view and buy paintings. Our records show people come back year after year. The Opening Night is on Friday 6th April Good Friday from 7.30pm to 10pm admission £3.00 including wine and nibbles. Last year people were queuing to get in so if you wish to buy a picture it is advisable to come early.

SPRING Homes & GARDENS Let J&S Homeworks Transform Your Garden As Spring is fast approaching, it’s a good time to create your perfect outdoor living space. Garden patios and decking have never been more popular. There are now an increasing number of styles of garden paving and garden products dedicated to help you gain the maximum amount of use and enjoyment from your patio garden. The biggest impact on patio gardens has undoubtedly been decking which is an easy to maintain area that provides an ideal surface for summer as the wood is near cold but at the same time never becomes excessively hot like some natural stone and manmade paving products. Whether you choose decking or a cement, stone or paving slab patio depends on your site & style.
When creating any area in the garden one of the first aims must be to add interest. Building a pergola in your garden can in its simplest form provide a focal point, however it can also provide an effective soft screen from the neighbours, additional shelter for a walkway or it can frame a view to another feature within the garden.
combination. Wood fencing helps to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home and garden as well as adding essential privacy. The garden fence may be the first thing people see when they come to your house.
Custom made garden sheds are a perfect way to utilise an area within your garden that otherwise would be wasted.
Garden fencing needn’t be boring and can really add character, whether it be traditional or contemporary it can be in a range of styles and materials. Screening can be used to hide an unsightly area - bins compost etc.
By having a garden shed made to suit the area, you are turning a once useless space into a useful storage or work area - half for storage and half as a summer house or maybe a shed and green house

Health, beauty & wellbeing Short Bursts Make Light Work If you don’t think you have the time for a long session in the gym or an epic run, then why not consider interval training? Personal Trainer Darryl Britton explains why short bursts of high intensity exercise may be an excellent way to burn calories, in less time. Interval training is essentially short, fast bursts of exercise to nearly
maximum capacity, followed by a shorter period of rest. For instance, if you have a little time in your lunch break try an interval run: sprint for 40 seconds, then walk for 20 seconds, then repeat at least eight times.
Post-Natal Clinical Pilates We think of Pilates as a relatively new form of exercise; however it has been used for many years. In 1914 a gentleman called Joseph Pilates developed an exercise regime for fellow soldiers who had become ill or injured and these exercises continued to develop until Pilates’ death. Today Physiotherapy is rapidly proving the importance of muscle balance and evidence in the nineties shows that imbalances and injuries of the lumbar spine and peripheral joints can be helped with Pilate’s exercises. Amongst Physiotherapists Pilates is now used not only as a form of treatment but also as an assessment tool, looking at where imbalances occur and treating them with specific exercises. Emma is qualified in ‘Modified Pilates’, which is a safe form of Pilates for anyone with a musculoskeletal condition or injury. Postnatal Pilates can be extremely
beneficial; it increases energy levels and improves stability and strength to aid the return of the woman’s pre-pregnancy body type.
Scientific evidence shows that short intensive bursts of cardio exercise burn just as many, if not more, calories as a sustained session, and continue burning calories for a longer time afterwards as the metabolic rate is increased. There are lots of methods to exercise in this way, including circuit training, but it is also easy to do on your own and keeps exercise interesting and manageable. Try it when running or cycling or even indoors, with squat thrusts and running on the spot an effective alternative. As with any exercise, it is important that you warm up fully beforehand and cool down afterwards.
It is a gentle form of exercise which can be built around the new Mum’s lifestyle to increase exercise tolerance. The breathing involved in Pilates helps to relieve the tension and stress of life with a new baby. A Pilate’s session with a qualified Physiotherapist can allow Mum a well deserved break! Emma is trained in Modified Pilates, she will take history and do a Physiotherapy assessment in your own home so that she is aware of your individual needs and can then go on to create a tailored Pilates programme postnatally. The best bit is, there is no need to find a babysitter!

Preparing our skin for the new season is essential in order to be able to look our best at any given moment. Although subtle, a few changes in our skin care rituals can make a great difference in the way our skin looks, so learn to prepare your skin for the spring season in a few easy steps.
Those who have oily skin might also want to invest in a mattifying gel, as it might serve as a good base for a long lasting makeup.
Moisturising is by far the most important aspect we should take care of. Although moisturising regularly is just as important during spring as it is during winter, it is generally smarter to switch to a lighter moisturiser.
If dryness is a problem, weekly facials are recommended to be able to get a natural glow and nourish the skin at the same time.
A rich moisturiser might have done a good job protecting your skin during the cold winter months, however, once the temperatures go up, it might feel a little greasy. Using a heavy duty moisturiser can still be a good idea for body areas that are prone to dryness; however, making the switch is still necessary. If you don’t want to purchase a new moisturiser, mixing a little rosewater in your moisturiser might do the trick.
For those who have other types of complexions, this idea might not work well as these gels can be too drying.
Sunscreen remains an absolute must during the warmer months, so looking for a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 20 is recommendable. A moisturiser with SPF is also a good alternative for those who are looking for versatile products. An important aspect to remember is that you should pay attention to the areas that are likely to be forgotten such as the back of the ears, the lips, your fingers and so on.
CARING FOR THE ELDERLY From The Field To The Freezer How Wiltshire Farm Foods’ carefully prepared frozen meals are helping people stay independent. For those who’ve worked hard all their lives, maintaining independence is particularly important - especially when it comes to mealtimes. Wiltshire Farm Foods is one company that’s keen to help those who can’t get out and about as much, so they can eat well and look after themselves. Established for more than 20 years, Wiltshire Farm Foods creates and delivers a delicious range of frozen meals that can be cooked in minutes. From the field, to the freezer, every detail is considered in order to offer nutrition, value, flavour and awardwinning personal service. Ingredients are selected from carefully approved suppliers and are then prepared by a
team of nutritionists and award-winning chefs in their Wiltshire kitchens.
Most dishes take 8-12 minutes in the microwave or 35 minutes in the oven.
Once cooked, the meals are placed into handy trays that fit easily into the freezer, then frozen almost immediately to lock in the freshness.
As they are cooked in their trays, there is no preparation, no pots and pans, just delicious meals that you can enjoy in your own time.
Convenience is a key part of the Wiltshire Farm Foods offering. All meals can be ordered over the phone or online.
Maintaining independence has never been easier.
They’re then delivered by a friendly, local delivery driver, who is always happy to put meals away in the freezer if preferred. With the freezer stocked up, you know that a hot meal is only ever a few minutes away.

The TV adverts also feature Edith and Eric, who talk to Ronnie about the benefits of the service. If you’ve not seen them yet, keep a look out.
Undernutrition In The Elderly Undernutrition is becoming increasingly prevalent in the ever-growing elderly population. Is poor nutrition just an inevitable consequence of ageing, or are there reasons which health professionals can address to deal with this problem? A national survey of older people in private household found that: Over half reported long standing illness or disability. One in five had difficulty seeing, even with glasses. One in ten were unable to walk down the road or manage stairs. One in five had been seen by a hospital doctor in the preceding three months. Half of the women and a quarter of the men aged 85 years and over were not able to cook a main meal alone. Only one in ten received ready meals delivered to the door. Not only do older people have practical disadvantages but they also have different nutritional requirements to that of the normal adult population. With increased age, people become more vulnerable to malnutrition for many reasons including these listed:

Over the past 31 years we have provided over 50 million hours of care in people’s homes from the North of Scotland down to The Channel Islands. In addition to providing care on a long term basis, we also provide respite care for family carers who need a wellearned break, for people who want to go away from home, on holiday or to visit relatives. We provide care to people with a terminal illness who want to stay at home and run care schemes for families who wish to share the care; for example, we can provide one or two weeks of
care, then the family the next period, on a regular basis. In 2012 the social care situation is hard to understand. Every day another news item complicates the issues and many people lose sight of their entitlements and become anxious and worried. The Able Community Care website at www.uk-care.com provides comprehensive information and there is an option to sign up for our free, weekly care Newsflash. Approximately 1000 people have already signed up to receive this each week in order that they can keep up to date with information that may affect them or their family.
