Now Playing on: The Trident Swim Foundation is entering its second year of operation, and major gains are already evident in the children they have worked with in and out of the pool. In this Swimming World TV interview, foundation co-founders Jeremy Fain and Kristin Gary talk about the three core components of the program—discipline, values and teamwork—and how the students at George Washington High School in New York City are working toward being models for their community. Out of the pool, the students—many of whom are minority children in low-income families—prepare for their PSAT exams and are mentored on their college choices. In the pool, the workouts are the same as other USA Swimming-sanctioned teams across the country—an achievement in itself, given that many of the students did not know how to swim a length of the pool when they started. Many of the kids today compete in USA Swimming meets.
