Light of the Past

“The one advantage of playing with fire...is that no one ever gets singed. It is the people who don’t know how to play with it who get burned up.” -Oscar Wilde With this collaborative project, myself, Garry Cook and fellow student Joshua Leader, aimed to conduct an investigation into architecture, facades, typography, letterpress and illustration in a way that was experimental and purely about having fun. We took an opportunity to play around with layout, design, image, animation and film. The following pages document this exploration.

Based on the lyrics and music of ‘Light of the Past’ by Madvillain. From the album, ‘Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remixes’ on Stones Throw Recordings.

We incorporated all of these experiments into motion. Having explored the various possibilities available to us, we considered, that the best outcome would be to sequence these images and footage according to the song. Please see attached DVD at the end of this book for the motion based outcome.
