Czech kroji passed to next generation of youth Beseda dancers
SPJST sends a special thanks to Betty Dobesh of Lodge 88, Houston. Betty sent a box of beautiful Czech kroj along with this note:
“Here are the Czech kroj that (late husband) Gene and I had made by Maggie from West - two skirts; three vests; three blouses; apron; overlay; and a shirt. I hope these can be useful for SPJST kids who are still dancing.
“When the late Tillie Helmcamp was youth director at Lodge 88, Houston, we were more than happy to assist her in
bringing Lodge 88’s youth club back into existence regardless of the thoughts of the older generation who felt youths should be seen and not heard.
“Our daughter Debra made us proud by representing Lodge 88 in the youth club state competition as 88’s queen and pointed out this very fact. The youth of SPJST are the only way it will continue to prosper and stay true. She stated facts they did not want to hear and adhere to at the time, but are realizing now.” —SPJST—
