Lodge 92, Fort Worth Ladies Circle reports on October meeting
It was a wonderful fall day to hold the October meeting of the Lodge 92, Fort Worth Ladies Circle. All 30 attending seemed to be in a “party” mood, full of chatter and a lot of laughter. President Cathy Simmank opened the meeting by leading everyone in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and welcoming Maria Nuncio’s granddaughter Madison. Due to Janet Basham’s absence, Lee Williams read a couple of cute stories/poems. One was entitled “When I’m Old and Live with My Kids” and the other was a “Prayer for Aging Gracefully.” They were certainly appropriate since all of us are pretty much seniors now.
Business proceeded as usual with reports. Sunshine chair Margaret Laymance reported on Janet Basham’s condition. She is dealing with several health issues that have now been identified.
President Cathy reported on the Ladies Circle cake walk held at the Czech Heritage Day activities in September. Forty-three cakes were donated which was awesome. Those who came to help had a blast and really enjoyed the day. They reported they are ready for next year already! We then had a pumpkin decorating contest. Oh my, there were a couple of pumpkins that were stunning, and a great deal of effort and time went into those entries. First place went to Nancy Davis; second place went to Lee Williams; and third place to Bessie Ellsworth. All were unique and so very cute. One person who did not have time to decorate a pumpkin just bought a greeting card with a big pumpkin on it. How original was that! In November, we will hold an arts and crafts sale and election of officers. If anyone is interested in selling their products, please bring them and/or be prepared to shop. Another announcement made was that we will have our annual Christmas lunch in December. Jon Durham will be the caterer, and his offerings are always delicious. At this point, desserts will be provided by the membership.
Jon Durham also reported on the Czech Day activities from last month. Attendance was up, and it seems a good time was had by all. He also announced that the leadership of the lodge is continuing to upgrade the facilities. It always looks so nice and clean, and our thanks go to them for allowing us the
opportunity to meet there each month and enjoy ourselves.
Last of all, there were several door prizes given out. Fall items seemed to be the theme for the prizes this day, and we enjoyed seeing who won and what they picked.
The blessing for the food, fellowship, the beautiful day, and the fact that we were all able to be together once again was given and once again, bingo followed lunch. I still can’t ever win. (Oh well, it’s fun anyway.)
Till November, stay well! Joan Shropshire, Secretary —SPJST—

Fort Worth Friendship Club
Sharron Connelly opened the meeting on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, for President Lola Taylor with the Pledge of Allegiance and an “Our Father” for our members, their families, and our blessed country.
Sharron reminded us that “hallowed be thy name” in the Our father, means “holy be thy name,” and that Halloween is a holy day, which has been commercialized in the United States, but is celebrated in Mexico as the Day of the Dead to honor and celebrate the passing of family and friends.
Our dear Shirley Martin was selected as the Queen, and photos were taken of her and the ladies that dressed up in costumes.
Margaret Sears read the minutes for our lovely secretary, Mary Martinez, who was unable to attend. As treasurer, Margaret Sears reported on our finances so we can plan activities for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many thanks to Margaret for everything she does.
Rose Anne Spann and Liz Caron were the lucky dollar game winners.
We sang “Happy Birthday” to Sharron Connelly who is 84 and “can’t believe a young thing like her got so old!”

Honoring the Life of a Missing Pet
Does missing mean gone forever? by Sabrina N. Young, CFSP SPJST Lodge 47, Seaton Member and Owner of Young’s Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center
Lodge 246, Morgan’s Point members fill boxes for Operation Christmas Child
Lodge 246, Morgan’s Point joined hands to assist fellow SPJST members (Faye Hudson and Debbie Veselka of Lodge 24, Cyclone) with a project at First Baptist Church in Robinson. Cindy and Ricki Dixon of Lodge 246, Morgan’s Point volunteered to fill 10 boxes for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. The couple included coloring books, stuffed animals, and various other items in the boxes. Thanks to Ricki, Cindy, Faye, and Debbie for making a difference!
Though the passing of a pet can be difficult, it is no less painful to cope with a pet that has gone missing. Having a lost pet can be an agonizing process, oftentimes involving months of waiting, searching, and posting dozens of fliers. However, when it is finally realized that your beloved animal is nowhere to be found, a new set of issues comes into play. Euthanizing a pet or allowing him or her to pass away peacefully at home provides the comfort of being able to lay the animal to rest—what’s more is that you were able to say goodbye. However, with a missing pet, the question remains: How does one approach a memorial?
Prior to any memorial planning, I strongly urge contacting local animal shelters to determine if they brought in any animals that match the description of your pet. Do not immediately turn into a fatalist, as there is a very real potential for your pet to be alive and well. If you do come to the conclusion that your missing pet is not returning, there are some beautiful ways to memorialize him or her.
I want to impress upon pet owners that a memorial, while sad, should be about celebrating the life of the pet. Do not feel embarrassed to conduct a service for a missing pet, because a loss is painful regardless of the circumstances. Think about the way you believe to be the most appropriate method of memorializing your pet. It is all a matter of personal preference.
Throughout my years as a funeral director and as a pet owner, I have seen people remember their pet through a variety of services, memorials, and remembrance ceremonies. There are some wonderful options to consider that will truly allow you to capture the essence of your beloved pet.
Planting
I think one of the most beautiful ways to memorialize a pet is to plant a flower or tree. This is something that will grow and bloom as a constant reminder of your pet. Planting something contributes to the environment and honors your pet’s place in nature. You could even place a small stone or plaque with your pet’s name on it in front of the plant. Portrait
Look through your scrapbooks and picture albums to find photos of your pet. Select the one that you believe best represents him or her. It may be a photograph of your pet splashing through a lake or rolling over for a belly rub. Then, contact a local artist to paint a portrait of that photo and display it somewhere in your home where every visitor can see.
Special Area
Maybe your pet’s bed was placed in the corner of the living room. Maybe you still have tags, toys, or collars that belonged to your pet. No matter what remains of your missing pet, you can designate an area that will still be his or hers. Place personal items or pictures in that special area to commemorate your pet’s life and personality.
The Impact Loss Has on Other Pets
If you have other pets, they may show signs of distress if they maintained a close bond with the pet that is missing. The surviving pet may forego eating and drinking, show lack of energy, and become completely sedentary. It is important to carefully watch for signs of depression in your other pets. You need to act positive around these animals and give them added attention to help them cope with the loss. If the behavior persists, see a veterinarian for other means or methods to help your remaining pets deal with the loss of their friend.
