AND SO IT BEGINS…..
We have endured bountiful rains during the cold winter, we have bravely wrestled the dreaded Covid 19 saga, but summer is upon us, and with summer comes CRICKET!!
The BUILD-IT BUSINESS LEAGUE kicks off this month, with 11 weeks of battle ahead. 12 well-rounded and supremely conditioned teams of athletes will compete for the coveted William Web Foot Trophy.
First out of the blocks on Tuesday 10th November brings the sporting intellectuals, Land en See/SPLASH and iSmile Strikers together. The smart money is on the dazzling smiles of the Strikers, known to have blinded the opposition in the past. The ever studious Peter van Schaik (the name says it all !!) however has studied many of the Striker’s videos and will no doubt be well prepared! The dusk encounter pits 2 juggernauts together…Mik en Moer who never hold back, and with Jurg “Skokkend” Kuyler amongst their ranks, this should be electrifying! Calmly sailing into this match are the Roaring 40s, known for their temperament in crises. Their skipper “Flush” Gordon Neethling is no stranger to rodding others and there is every chance that the 40s will be swirling opposing teams down the toilet, with ease!
On Wednesday 11 November are Sandveld versus Whale Talk. The former have a bounty of talent and experience, with Joubert drawing it, Philip building it and Quincy selling it, they are the complete package. Not to gossip or anything, but the “Talkers” are coming fully loaded this season. Quinny has been hard at work perfecting his 32km/h drifters, and Jack “The Patient Blacksmith” Black needs no introduction…Dravid and Gayle all wrapped into one! The final contest of the day is bound to mesmerise: Towing v Build-It Bashers. The accident chasers are no strangers to the winner’s circle and Mop “Ek ken die reels” Minnaar has been known to ruffle a few feathers! The Bashers have a lot at stake though and the striking abilities of the Double Burgers , Dylan and Clayden and the wiles of Warwick “The Terrier” Addison should be a stern test for Mop’s Marauders. Will Towing drag Build- It around…or will Build-it nail Towing ? Anybody’s guess!
Finishing off the week on Thursday 12 November at 17h15 will be the hard-drinking Klipdrifters, led by the ex-Australian apron sewing champion, Pheeeeel Munro. They are up against it when they play the “Naked and Afraid” stars, Outcast. Dino “I have the best deals in town” Petim leads this formidable outfit. The second game sees the Ranked Outsiders, with the Devin Ayres-Rock at the helm, take on the evergreen Oldies under the captaincy of Chris “The Goat” Goatley. Their zimmer frames have hampered them in the past, but word is that they have been training hard against the Lettie Theron X1. Should be a cracker of a day!
Veruscha and Maria’s pub will be open every evening, so bring family and friends, come tan a chop and have a few cold ones…goodness knows, we’ve all earned a break ! See you at the club.
