The figures in this Factsheet are taken from two different sources. One survey was conducted by Statistics Austria. The other by a private consultancy company– Wellacher consulting. Both organisations were supplied with a list of enterprises, compiled by aws. The lists contained only R&D and production companies. No service or trading companies were considered. Statistics Austria accumulated financial information from 104 biotech companies. The other contractor surveyed a representative sample of 61 biotech companies. Statistics Austria used 2007 figures, whereas Wellacher conducted its survey from September to October 2009.
