A YEAR ON – THE LEGEND REIGNS

Today, exactly a year ago, Maine Chance Farms lost its beloved champion Silvano. Aged 25, he had been pensioned from stallion duties in 2020. A true gentleman and a giant amongst stallions, the German-bred son of Lomitas led the South African Sires List on six occasions, four of which Crownedconsecutively.South Africa's Champion sire for the first time in 2012-13, Silvano finished fourth in 2013, third in 2014 and was pipped on the post in 2015. He dominated the next four seasons before slipping to fifth in 2020-21, only to reclaim his title this past Consideringseason. that the South African racing programme is heavily weighted towards speed and precocity, and there are far less opportunities for late maturing types, Silvano's achievements as a classic stallion were truly phenomenal. Whilst his offspring have accounted for every major classic, he has also stamped his authority on the timehonoured Durban July, siring five winners of the country's premier race. In 2015, he created history when his Maine Chancebred sons Power King, Punta Arenas and Tellina filled the first three places. Two years later, Marinaresco scythed his way through the ‘Considering that the SA racing programme is heavily weighted towards speed and precocity, and there are far less opportunities for late maturing types, Silvano's achievements as a classic stallion were truly phenomenal’The majestic Silvano

Silvano's legacy lives on through his excellent son Vercingetorix, who looked set for a first stallion title but for Splashing Water's rich July win stake, which propelled his sire to the top of the log. Another exciting stallion son waiting to make his bow is champion Hawwaam, a halfbrother to Horse of the Year Rainbow Bridge and the Gr1 winner Golden Ducat. Silvano is now making his mark as a broodmare sire and recently celebrated his first Gr1 success in that sphere when Oratorio filly Canadian Summer claimed the Thekwini Stakes, a victory which is likely to see her crowned the 2022 season's Champion juvenile filly. A grand stamp of a horse, Silvano was well balanced, of medium size, with a strong head and a wonderful neck and shoulder. Full of personality and presence, he had a kind and intelligent temperament, qualities he invariably imparted to his progeny. Ed - Silvano honoured on our cover with another legend, Monty Roberts

field to emerge victorious, finishing a head in front of Silvano's SA Derby winner and favourite Al Sahem, while Gr.1-winning daughter Nightingale was pipped for third place by a shorthead. This year, four-yearold daughter Sparkling continued her sire's unparalleled record to become his fifth July winner, with third place going to paternal half-brother Safe Passage, who is a strong fancied to lift the Equus Champion thee-year-old Theaward.sire of 110 stakes winners (9 of which were bred in his birth country Germany and included German Derby winner Lucky Speed), Silvano counts Horse of the Year Summer Pudding and the champions Bold Silvano, Aslan, Kings Gambit, Vercingetorix, Marinaresco and Hawwaam amongst 28 top level winners. With two more crops yet to see the track, that tally is sure to increase.

Cousin Casey - an exciting prospect! ‘No doubt other fine prospects will emerge as the season progresses. Who knows, could there be a future Hollywoodbets Durban July winner lurking amongst them?’

The new season is off to a flying start, and before we know it, newlyturned three-year-olds will be coming out of the woodwork, especially the later maturing types, those with classic aspirations. Based on exposed juvenile form, it is always interesting to speculate as to who will make their mark in what is arguably the most important season in a racehorse's career, so let's delve right in. As far as the males go, Glen Kotzen's Cousin Casey must be top of the heap. A hot favourite to clinch the Juvenile Championship, the son of Vercingetorix had no equal as a juvenile and closed out his two-year-old season with a formidable quartet of wins, prime amongst which a dominant twolength victory in the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes. Bred on classic lines, his dam Bretton Woods is an own sister to Glen's ill-fated Durban July winner Big City Pathfork'sLife. son Royal Victory, trained by brother Natie, chased home Cousin Casey in both the Premiers and Gr2 Golden Horseshoe

Successful up to 2400m, he ran third in the Premiers Champion Stakes, besides splitting Vercingetorix and Capetown Noir in a thrilling three-way finish to the Gr1 Daily News 2000.

Speed, a fluent winner of the Gr3 Langerman, and the well-related Prevalence, who caught the eye with a creditable debut third last weekend. That was over the minimum trip and as a half-brother to dual Summer Cup winner Master Sabina and East Cape Derby winner American Landing, he is sure to excel over the classic Trainerdistances.Dean Kannemeyer is not one to push his youngsters and those set to make their mark at three include a brace of Gimmethegreenlighthighly-regarded colts. Bright Green lined up in the Gr2 Golden Horse following his impressive debut win and despite a wide draw, still managed to finish fifth, beaten just over two lengths. This half-brother to Zimbabwe Oaks winner Raven Girl out of a half-sister to Hoedspruit, hails from a fine international family which is currently firing on all cylinders, that of the French Oaks victress Bright OnSky.Sunday, Kannemeyer took the wraps off R2.8 million yearling purchase Cheeky Laddie at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and although unfancied, this colt lived up to his fine pedigree to score on debut. Out of champion juvenile All Is Secret, the colt has yet to furnish into the finished article and is returning to Cape Town home base where he will no doubt be targeted at the rich Cape season.

Gimmethegreenlight is also sire of Brett Crawford-trained Port Louis, who followed up his second in the Langerman with a first stakes success in Fairview's Listed Champion Juvenile Stakes. Crawford's arsenal also includes two potentially smart colts in Red Impact and Le Morne. The former, a Birch-bred son of Red Ray, ran his rivals ragged to claim last weekend's Kenilworth opener in fine style, while Futura newcomer Le Morne flashed up for a stylish debut victory in the third race. Interestingly, both are out of mares sired by former Summerhill standouts. Le Morne is out of a Kahal full sister to the stakesperformed trio of Kwinta, Eastern Greeting and Kalaam, while Red Impact's dam is a Muhtafal half-sister to the Gr1-placed Strelitzia winner EricInverroche.Sandsmay no longer have the services of his beloved grand champion, but there may be life after Rainbow Bridge after all. Although it's early days, the veteran trainer hopes to have a classic prospect in Hithemhardsunshine. This son of What A Winter and the dual stakes winner Agra chased Charles Dickens home in the Somerset 1200. The latter, a Drakenstein homebred resident in the Bass stable, could also have classic aspirations, considering he is a Trippi own-brother to Gr1 Cape Derby third Charles and Somerset Maugham, who finished third in two legs of the Winter Series. The Bass stable could have another classic Drakensteinbred prospect in the blueblooded colt Narina Trogon. A fluent winner first time out at the end of June, the colt boasts a classic pedigree through and through, being by Silvano out of champion racemare Beach Beauty. Waiting in the wings on the other side of the country, is Mike de Shoemaker.Kock-trainedYetanother fine prospect amongst Gimmethegreenlight's

The above are just a few of an exciting crop of newly-turned three-year-olds. No doubt other fine prospects will emerge as the season progresses. Who knows, could there be a future Hollywoodbets Durban July winner lurking amongst them? Next week, we'll take a look at the fairer sex.

Yet another Drakensteinbred ace, the daughter of Trippi won the Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship for trainer Sean Tarry, who on the day claimed the juvenile double when Rafeef colt Thunderstruck recorded a scintillating three-length victory in the Gr1 Gold Medallion. Based on pedigree, the Wilgerbosdriftowned colt looks a fine sprinter in the making, not surprising considering his fleet-footed dam Varikate beat the boys in the Gr2 Post Merchants. Knowing Tarry, he could just work his magic and get the colt to excel over further!

The first sighting for the juveniles will be the annual 900m dashes for both colts and fillies at the end of TheseNovember.races will lead up to two newly created juvenile events on Guineas Day which is being run on the 17th of December. Head of Racing Operations Justin Vermaak explained, “The juvenile offering needed a total rethink and a major cash injection. A core issue around some of the field size problems we are experiencing is that horses on average are just taking too long to race. Horses sitting on spelling farms until they are two and a half is not serving the interest of racing nor the owner. It is worth noting that in

13 recent years there has been a shift in the stallion landscape. There is now a broader group of sires, especially the successful ones, who are excelling at producing precocious Byhorses.initiating major stake incentives and racing opportunities earlier in the season we are expecting to see horses prepared a lot quicker and competing a lot earlier. This will have a positive effect on the racing population in the months that follow the early juvenile racing and of course, highly rewards connections who are not sitting on their horses.” With the RaceCape powered by Hollywoodbets incentive scheme recently announced, Cape Racing is continuing with its theme of innovation through rejuvenated racing programmes and prize money levels to benefit the owners, trainers, jockeys and grooms of the Western ForCape.more information on the programme please contact: Justin Vermaak: justin@ caperacing.co.za or 072 623 7994

NHA LOOKS AT SOPHOMORE CROP

The NHA Handicappers are tasked with ensuring that all horses in handicaps have an equal chance of winning as per the rules of the NHA. Rule: 47.3.2 states that a handicap, which shall be a RACE in which the weights to be carried by the HORSES are allocated by the handicapper for the purpose of equalising their chances of winning. It is, however, a trend that the three-year-old crop consistently outperform their older rivals in benchmark Thishandicaps.islikely due to their freshness in racing, their propensity to improve more rapidly than older horses, and the likelihood that trainers take advantage of the favourable WFA for the more mature three-year-old’s early in the season. This trend flattens as the months progress as the Handicappers are able to gain better insight into the merit of each three-year-old, and as the WFA allowance reduces. The Handicappers have reviewed the handicap performances of the three-year-old crop after the last Southern Hemisphere season ending 31 July 2022. This review is done regularly to ensure that a balance between crops is maintained and that handicaps remain competitive. Please click here for the full press release with supporting tables.

VERCINGETORIX –A LAST CHANCE!

There cannot be too many airline pilots to have trained a Gr1 winner. Alongside Mike de Kock, Dylan Cunha is one of the youngest trainers to have saddled a Summer Cup winner. Last week the 42 year old reached another milestone in what has been an extraordinarily diverse life, when he saddled his first winner from his new base at Newmarket.

31

Mike de Kock was only 24 when he won the Gauteng flagship in 1989 with Evening Mist, while the then 28 year old Dylan Cunha won the big one with the Australian-bred Strategic News scoring under Glyn Schofield in 2008. In 2018 Cunha called time on training, citing a lack of support at the yearling sales, the high cost of purchases in relation to stakes, escalating costs of operations, and the difficulty competing with larger stables as some of his reasons for quitting. He then pursued his pilot’s licence and was flying passenger jets for Mango, before Covid grounded that “Icareer.loved it and enjoyed the whole process of becoming a charter pilot, then contract pilot and ultimately an airline pilot.

DYLAN’S FLYING IN THE UK !

Mango was great, but Covid quickly ruined that industry for years to come sadly. I am not flying anymore. With two young kids, I’m enjoying being home more with them!” Dylan told the Sporting Post, as he explained that as a Portuguese Passport holder, he made the decision to immigrate to the UK before Brexit, while they still could. “The decision was justified after Mango eventually stopped flying a few months later. The whole family is here, all doing well and enjoying it!” And the big icebreaker came on 9 August, when Dylan saddled his first winner courtesy of the Poet’s Voice gelding Mighty Mind, who won a handicap at Chelmsford under Jason Watson. An enthusiastic Dylan explains: “Mighty Mind is owned by Amadeo Del Pos, whom I met through a friend while I was doing the trainer’s modules. We got on really well and had a beer at the July Sale at Tattersalls. He sent me Mighty Mind, who needed a bit of freshening up. Things turned out well – he was only with us for 6 weeks. I think he will win next time again. Winning jockey Jason Watson is top class. He was champion apprentice, but lost his way and is on the comeback trail and is aiming for 100 winners this season.”

It's a terrific start for the Cunha Racing Team with just 12 runners so far, 8 of them having earned prize “Thosemoney. stats are with only 5 horses. We live in exciting times,” enthuses Dylan, who tells us that his team is based in Newmarket in the Bottom Yard at Phantom House Stables in Fordham “WilliamRoad. Haggas, Ed Dunlop, William Jarvis, Tom Clover and Marco Bottie are all my neighbours. We have 28 stables to start with. I basically do all the work myself with the assistance of my father. We have two lads, Adam Mind charges clear under Jason Watson

Dylan tells that staffing is a real “Southchallenge.Africans are spoilt with great grooms. I would have loved to have had my staff from 2007 over here now. A forward and entrepreneurial thinker, Dylan is keen to promote SA racing. “I would hope that eventually I could partner with the likes of Drakenstein, Mauritzfontein, Ridgemont Highlands, Gulf Racing, Mike de Kock and Cape Thoroughbred Sales, and bring South African horses over here and be supported by them. Some of those leading players have horses with the likes of William Haggas, Ed Dunlop, Jane Chappel -Hyam etc, but nothing says South African louder than me here at the moment.” Dylan says that he has worked hard to forge a strong social media following and build up a good local base of owners and syndicates, as well as a good relationship with the “Withmedia.the right support and the right horses and partnerships with South Africans, I have set up the platform for South African horses to be taken note of here. Racing fillies here and sending them home and decent colts going back can also only keep improving the breed back in SA. The press have been extremely interested and I’ve done loads of interviews. The better myself and Collen Story, Greg Cheyne etc do here, the better.”

He has hopes that the right people take note and a platform can open up to South Africa. “Even with travel, I still believe South Africa offers

On the plus side, he adds that the different racecourses are amazing and there is lots of racing - so there are opportunities. “Luckily Newmarket is central, so most racecourses are within two hours from us. It’s not too bad. A big positive here is that we can travel to anywhere in the world from here and we will do so –much like when we went to Dubai with Strategic News - we just need to find one soon,” he smiles. Every day is a long day, but living a passion means that it’s all “Werewarding.getto the yard at 04h30, feed, muck out, clean water buckets, then do the strings at track and then feed again, and then do the office work until around 11h30. After that I spend time on social media growing our brand, and then back to stables at 16h00 to muck out, feed hay, water, brush etc until around 18h00. My family help so we are all in the groove and enjoy it. It’s more fun than work!”

33 and Kanane, who ride out and will eventually become permanent staff.” Dylan adds that all of Josephine Gordon, Grace Mc Entee, Abbie Pierce and Alice Bond regularly ride out for them, while Jason Watson and Kieran Shoemark have also ridden “It’sout. nice to have the Saffers here - I regularly see Gavin Howes and Collen Story, and recently Greg Cheyne, as they work across the road from Whenme.”taxed on comparisons with life as a trainer on South African soil, Dylan adds quickly that things are ‘a lot “Howdifferent’.Imissthe Maiden Plate in South Africa. Here most maidens run in handicaps after three runs. It can be tough! I ran second with Mr Fayez (a maiden) to a 10 time winner receiving a pound at Brighton, for example. Not easy as the system forces trainers to handicap horses. The cost is also quite heavy for owners as, besides training fees, one pays heath fees, transport, jockeys fees etc etc. It’s very expensive to race here! South Africa subsidizes a lot for the owners, whereas the UK puts a lot of extra costs on the owner.”

“I still believe South African racing has the horses and horsemen to be a serious force in the world, but hope politics and the sad AHS issue don’t leave it there. The Hollywoodbets Durban July, for example, is still one of the great races of the world and I hope that one day I can have a Cape Met runner from here. This surely must be the dream for SA as well, to have international racing!”

the best value for money, and I would love to tap into that for the future. I know the South African horses well and, having trained in SA and the UK, would be able to sync them into the system easier. I think a lot of them go flat when they get Motivatedhere.” and with a plan, the Cunha team are building up slowly and trying to source horses that can win and babies ‘that could be anything’. “We’ve made a lot of contacts and will be buying a few at the sales and syndicating some as well. The aim is to get to 20 horses by December and grow from therebut never more than 50 to keep it hands on and intimate. I’m really enjoying getting stuck in myself,” adds the man who used to be a very capable rider. At the age of 42, Dylan tells how he is loving every minute, having challenged himself throughout his life and achieved things most people never do. “I work hard and put 200% into everything I do. My family are enjoying it. They all get stuck in and help. They love the horses and they all love the UK.” Despite his new roots, Dylan still follows racing in South Africa.

Moutonshoek's draft for this year's August Two Year Old Sale can be viewed in Block E at the TBA complex in Germiston.

The latter, whose two small first crops have yielded the likes of Sheela, Sun Blushed and impressive debut winner Rockets Red Glare, has seven lots on offer in this draft. They include a filly (Lot 149) from the immediate family of star siblings Marinaresco and Marina, as well as a halfsister (Lot 268) to Listed Dahlia Plate winner Joking.

Piketberg based farm Moutonshoek are responsible for breeding one of the most brilliant fillies to grace the South African turf in many a year. The Moutonshoek bred Captain's Ransom, a former National Sale graduate, had a superb season in 20212022, with the flashy bay winning six of her seven starts last season, including the Gr1 Cartier Paddock Stakes, Gr1 Schweppes Majorca Stakes, G1 South African Fillies Sprint and Gr1 Mercury Sprint. The latter win was particularly impressive, with Captain's Ransom powering home late on to down male rivals and land one of South Africa's top sprints.

Excitingly, Narrow Creek Stud will be offering a half-sister (Lot 230) to Who Do You Love at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale. With the recent increase in stakes and incentives at Cape Racing and the Highveld, there is no better time to buy a horse from a farm with a 63.9% winners to runners strike rate in the 2021/22 season! Jan Mantel’s Millstream Farm is going from strength to strength, with Millstream graduates enjoying both success on the racetrack and in the sales ring of late. The Robertson based farm will be bringing a very classy draft to the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale, with a standout feature of this consignment being the quality of broodmare represented. A prime example of this is Mystery Dame, a Jet Master daughter who won five and finished second in the Gr3 Final Fling Stakes. Also placed in the Listed Ladies Mile, Mystery Dame has enjoyed even greater success since retiring to stud, with her progeny headed by Equus Champion, and Gr1 Thekwini Stakes winner, Lady In Black and Gr2 Cape Racing Peninsula Handicap hero MillstreamNexus.will be offering a filly (Lot 33) by the sensational Vercingetorix out of the aforementioned Mystery Dame, and this filly looks sure to hold plenty of appeal for –

From a small number of runners, Benmarne Stud have bred a number of high-class gallopers, with Gr1 Thekwini Stakes winner Querari Falcon and Gr2 Gauteng Guineas/Gr2 Dingaans winner Monks Hood among the farm's star alumni. Benmarne made headlines again earlier this year, thanks to the deeds of Prophet. A son of Maine Chance Farms' prominent sire Querari, the Ben Botha bred and owned galloper won his first two starts in eye catching fashion culminating in a near four length romp in the Gr3 Godolphin Barb Stakes. Prophet would go on to show his class when defeating some highly rated twoyear-olds when taking third place in the Gr2 Durban Golden Horseshoe, run on Hollywoodbets Durban July day and was subsequently fourth in the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes. Day 2, Thursday, kicks off at 14h50 with the Gr2 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes over the straight six furlongs for juvenile fillies.

The Ebor festival at York is one of the highlights of the racing season in Britain with Group 1 racing from today to Friday. On Saturday, the final day of the festival, racegoers will witness 22 horses tackling the Ebor Heritage Handicap – the richest flat handicap in Britain with a first prize of £300,000.

The top two in the market, Dramatised and Mawj trained by Karl Burke and Saeed Bin Suroor respectively both carry 3lbs penalty’s for winning Group 2 events in their last starts. That gives the others more of a chance but Dramatised sets the standard with her 112 Queen Mary timefigure at Royal Ascot still being the best by a two-year-old this season. The Exceed And Excel filly Mawj denied the smart Lezoo last time out and that runner then went on to land a Gr3 at Ascot impressively. They should fight it out. York

The top-class five-yearold mare Alpinista take on six rivals in her quest for a first domestic Group 1 in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks (16h35). Unbeaten from four to five including a victory over ‘Arc’ winner Torquator Tasso in a Gr1 in Germany last season, she looks to have a big chance. However, with Tuesday and Magical Lagoon, the winners of the English and Irish Oaks in the field, this is no one horse race. These two 3-year-olds both receive 9lbs age allowance and the Aidan O’Brien trained Tuesday is thus best weighted on official Fellowratings.Irish trained La Petite Coco is another big name in the line-up, with the four-year-old attempting a five-timer following victory in the Pretty Polly Stakes in June. Friday, Day 3, will hopefully see round five between star stayers Stradivarius and Trueshan in the Gr2 Lonsdale Cup (15h25) over an extended 2 miles. With thunderstorms predicted during the week, hopefully this will occur as Trueshan will not run on good to firm ground. If not, then the Gosden trained eight-yearold entire has most to fear from the improving Coltrane and Quickthorn. Thirty-five minutes later, the Gr2 Richmond winner Royal Scotsman takes on amongst others, unbeaten and unexposed sorts like Marshman, Noble Style, Clearpoint and Aesop’s Fables in the Gimcrack Stakes, a Group 2 over 6 furlongs for juveniles. Only fourth on his debut at Ascot behind the unbeaten Noble Style,

77 the Gleneagles colt has shown major improvement since, culminating with his Gr2 victory at Glorious Goodwood. With more racing experience to count on, this flat track should suit the Paul and Oliver Cole trained runner. The Group 1 contest of the day is the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes over five furlongs (16h35). With ground conditions likely to be quick, the pace will be on from the jump and the unbeaten three-year-old Royal Aclaim heads the market after his facile victory here last month in a listed contest on fast ground. An interesting runner is the two-year-old filly The Platinum Queen who was so impressive when showing pace from start to finish to land a conditions event at Goodwood on fast ground by four lengths. She will get all the weight allowances and carry’s only 8 stone! The star five-year-old mare Highfield Princess takes her place after landing the Gr1 Arc Prix Maurice de Gheest last time out. With so much speed in the race, she could be finishing strongest and take the crown.

WORLD POOLS IN PLAY!

Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pools will be in operation on the first three days of the four-day Yorkshire Ebor Festival, which begins today, 17 August, and TAB horseracing customers can bet their maximum on Win, Place, Swinger and Quinella pools without fear of significantly depressing payouts. The Ebor Festival has grown in stature in recent years and each of the first three days is headlined by a Grade 1 blockbuster, beginning with the famous Juddmonte International over 2051m today. Baaeed, undefeated in nine races to date and rated the best racehorse in the world, is expected to make it a flawless 10 from 10 in the Juddmonte, in which he is faced by six opponents including last year’s six-length winner TheMishriff.only potential chink in Baaeed’s armour is the distance because he will be racing past 1600m for the first time. But this star four-year-old colt’s temperament, style of racing and pedigree suggest he will be well suited by this distance. All TAB Win, Place, Swinger and Quinella bets today, tomorrow, and Friday will be commingled into the UK Tote, which in turn will commingle them into the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s massive World Pools. More than R600 million will be wagered into the World Pools on the day.

PREMIERAPARTY!

8/10 Leicester | Draw 29/10 | Southampton 31/10 (16:00) Leicester (uncharacteristically)looked out of their depth against Arsenal. Now, should Brendan Rodgers lose some key players who are linked with moves elsewhere I don’t think Leicester is able to complete without bringing in anyone new. Southampton aren’t exactly sailing smoothly themselves, but they can ask questions of this Leicester outfit. 8/10 on the home win isn’t for me, I’m going to go both teams scoring at 6/10. 14/10 Fulham | Draw 47/20 | Brentford 39/20 (16:00) This is an interesting affair indeed…Fulham have looked dangerous in their opening two engages but whilst they too are susceptible to missing chances, they give just as many away to opposing sides. Brentford will obviously be boosted by their thumping of Manchester United last weekend;

86 I mean why wouldn’t they come into this game brimming with confidence? Both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals make enough appeal for me. Get on at 15/1012/10.Crystal Palace | Draw 23/10 | Aston Villa 19/10 (16:00) I must say I was highly impressed with Palace at Anfield. They knew they couldn’t impose their ideal game on their hosts and so opted to twist and give themselves a chance in the game. They will inevitably create chances in front of goal, and should they be more clinical – I think they could be a tough nut to crack at times this year. Villa isn’t going to be a run around though; in fact I think they square up quite nicely these two sides. Inevitably it will come down to who is able to take the game by the scruff of the neck and make it their own. Fine margins might decide a winner – back the draw. 6/1 Bournemouth | Draw 37/10 | Arsenal 9/20 (18:30) Yeah look…Arsenal should smack Bournemouth here. The North-London side have looked exceptional so far this season, I really can’t fault them at all. Gabriel What is the Premier League without interest, intrigue, twist and turn you say? Well, what is an English Premier League preview without humble pie, bullish behavior and a completely unsolicited apology… Yes! We have it all. Complete with a rather simple quad for your trouble. Here we go again, writes Ryan Liberty. Saturday 20 August 7/20 Tottenham | Draw 4/1 | Wolves 7/1 (13:30) I must say, I was incredibly impressed with Spurs at the weekend. Yes, they were outplayed by Chelsea for large parts of that game but the will and desire to stay in the fight and come away with something is testament to the work of Antonio WolvesConte. were a little rigid against Fulham, and whilst they managed to scrape a clean sheet out of the affair, I can’t see them standing up to Spurs here. Back the home side to maintain a clean sheet at 17/20. 19/20 Everton | Draw 51/20 | Forest 29/10 (16:00) What a famous win for Forest! New signing Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal and Dean Henderson secured the points on the other end. In fairness, the only other opportunities West Ham managed to register was via long range and that adds further impotence to the defensive effort managed by Nottingham Forest. Everton have been lacking a bit of luster and I can’t see why having a little gander on the away side would hurt. Get on the away win/ draw double chance at 15/20.

Jesus has been incredible for his new side and seems to be lapping up the focus of being their main man in front of goal. Bournemouth have struggled, but irrespective, this isn’t their fight. I would get silly with what I throw at the away win.

87 because St. James’ Park will be bouncing ahead of kickoff, and those fans will simply not allow their team to lie down and accept defeat. The atmosphere will almost drag the Magpies into a contest should it Ofrequire.course, City should ride that and slowly impose themselves onto the game before finally putting it to bed. This is probably the most well narrated story to justify the acceptable odds of 4/10 available – back Pep and the lads.

Chelsea was fantastic against Spurs and in truth horribly unlucky not to come away with all three. I think they are miles ahead of Leeds and should encounter little resistance on Sunday afternoon. 6/1 Newcastle | Draw 4/1 | Manchester City 4/10 (17:30)

On paper, this will be a minor test for Manchester City. I say that only and maybe this can work on our side, but in terms of being worried that they lost the game, we are not even considering that.We are giving them the respect they deserve and at the same time, we believe we will do our best on the day.” Richards Bay head coach Pitso Dladla is wary of a wounded Kaizer Chiefs when the two sides meet at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. Chiefs suffered a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns, while Richards Bay are experiencing contrasting fortunes as they top the DStv Premiership standings with three matches played. And Dladla is bracing for a backlash from the Soweto giants in Durban. “It makes things worse now to play against them while they have lost the game [against Downs]. I don’t think they will want to lose against us, especially being the new kids on the block,” said the Richards Bay “Buttactician.wearealso so fortunate that they brought the game to Durban CHIEFS ARE DANGEROUS

Leeds United | Draw 33/10 | Chelsea 11/20 (17:30) I would like to formally take this opportunity and apologize to all associated with Chelsea Football Club for my aggressive and ultimately incorrect assertion in my last preview. I got it wrong… Ps. This was not a directive of the editor, but rather an indication of my Nowaccountability…thatthatisover!

Sunday 21 August 5/4 West Ham | Draw 24/10 | Brighton 43/20 (15:00) West Ham would have had to face an awkward trip to the Nottingham Forest Football Club Stadium. The atmosphere would have always been electric and if they weren’t up for it and looked to quell that influence early…well they could always then go on to Brightonslip-up. was frustrated by Newcastle but enjoyed the better opportunities for sure. The reality for Graham Potter is that his side were wasteful and paid the price. This is a tricky one to call and so I’ll tentatively call a 46/10draw.
