PINNACLE STAKES at Turffontein on Tuesday

I

Trainer Louis Goosen has a trio of runners in the 1000m R120 000 Pinnacle Plate under the lights at the Turffontein night meeting on Tuesday and described it as a quality field and a tough race to win, despite his strong hand.

t is difficult to stick my neck out but I’d say that One Man’s Dream is the best of my three here although it will be a close run race, and Bad Boy Buddy Boy is in decent form,” said the always forthcoming Goosen, who is splitting himself between his

Joburg and Cape string at the moment. Andrew Fortune rides One Man’s Dream, who has been campaigning in strong company at his last few starts, without being disgraced. The son of Greys Inn was beaten only 3 lengths by subsequent Merchants winner Brutal Force at his penultimate start and then

ran marginally below that form when 3,45 lengths behind the Ramsden runner last time. He only needs to recapture his earlier paces and holds Moofeed on that.

Our Boy

The year younger Bad Boy Buddy Boy is a game and consistent sort who never runs a bad race.

He was a winner everywhere but the line last time when nabbed late by Captured Wind – who flopped next time out – but is a fellow with problems. Mike De Kock’s pair of Moofeed and Tiger Territory are both top-class sprinting types at best. After the latter’s below par effort in the Merchants (he is held by One Man’s Dream on that), we’d consider Moofeed the stronger. The son of Duke Of Marmalade is still an entire and had some very decent KZN sprint form during

Champions Season. His two runs this season have not caught the eye – although the extra ground of the Joburg Spring Challenge last time may not have suited him.

Old Man

The 8yo Uncle Tommy carries top weight and his recent racing has been confined to sand and polytrack. He is a dogged galloper with the heart of a lion and his early turf form in the Cape was commendable. It must be of some concern that he looks to have lost some toe with age – and

this has been confirmed by his late finishing efforts. He will probably be lacking a length or two early on. The balance of the Goosen runners Varbration (not striding out last time) and the only filly in the race in Seventh Symphony, have place prospects at best. Cont. p.2

The conditions plate was the quicker of the two 1400m races and successful here was Villa Del

December Largo’s stable companion SUNSET TRIPP. Another to race close to the speed, the daughter of Trippi took up the running at the 300m marker and comfortably accounted for the running on PURELY ATOMIC by two and a quarter. The faster of the two 1600m events was the graduation plate in which the aptly named FLY LIKE THE WIND registered his second career victory. Nicely positioned in fourth for most of the journey, the 3yo Windrush gelding struck the front 200m out and won well by a length from the staying on pacemaker BRIAR KING. A superb field of 17 accepted for the R1 million Grand Parade Gr1 Cape Guineas to be run on Saturday 19 December. The major talking point will be the inclusion of Silver Mountain, who bids to become to the first filly to win the premier classic since Little Ballerina in 1993. The race was first run in 1955 when won by Marion Island and in 1991 Star Effort became the first filly to clinch the Fillies – Colts’ Guineas double. That is the historical mark that Silver Mountain will be bidding for when she takes on 16 top-class males at Kenilworth in what could be a highlight of the season. The gods have dealt the
