MALMOOS FIRST FOALS AWAITED WITH EXCITEMENT
South Africa’s most recent Triple Crown winner and the last Grade 1-winning son of multiple champion sensation Captain Al, Malmoos, lauded as the ‘real deal’ and an athlete with the x-factor by trainer Mike de Kock, has the Ridgemont team abuzz with his first foals expected in a matter of months.
One of the most exciting locally-bred racehorses to go stud here in many a year, Malmoos covered more than 140 high-quality mares in his first season at Stud, and already has 100 mares booked for the new term.
“If ever a champion racehorse ticked every box to make it as a sire – then Malmoos is your man. His relaxed demeanour, coupled with a definitive presence and professionalism, makes him a pleasure to work with.
What makes him even more exciting is the fact that he tested up a CC – so his progeny will most certainly show early speed,” said Craig Carey, who confirmed that the first offspring of the champion were awaited with great excitement.
A full brother to the dual Group-winning stayer Captain Splendid, Malmoos is out of the Spook Express Handicap winner Justthewayyouare, a half-sister to Varsfontein’s sire Master Of My Fate.
A versatile seven-time winner from 1200m to 2450m, Malmoos was rated 125 at peak and raced in the internationally recognisable silks of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum.
He goes down in history as only the fourth horse to win the South African Triple Crown Purchased for over R4 million as a yearling by some of the best judges in the game, Malmoos displayed the stamp of a top-class racehorse with a perfect mix of speed and stamina.
Some of those that witnessed him wrapping up the Triple Crown in 2021 in sensational style saw shades of the great Horse Chestnut.
While sentiment and emotion is something that money can’t buy, the decision to base Malmoos in the stable left by the iconic Dynasty, could yet become a chapter of another champion fairytale in the writing!
