Since I joined my athletics club in 2012 I have developed a passion for middle distance running and cross country. I love being surrounded by like-minded people in a tightly knit team. I am extremely determined and not afraid of hard work and I have enjoyed every element of becoming a more rounded athlete, including attending weekly strength and conditioning sessions at St Mary’s University following my participation in a research project there. I feel excited by the opportunities offered by the American collegiate system as I think it will help me to reach my full potential and I am excited to see how much I can improve. I also love the enthusiastic and highly structured approach to sports in American colleges and think I would really enjoy this. I am very disciplined in all aspects of my life and have brilliant time management skills, as evidenced by my outstanding GCSE results achieved whilst not missing a single training session or race. I actually feel that I study better as a result of being in a routine and fit and healthy. I enjoy being a high achiever and believe in grabbing every opportunity given to me as, sadly a friend of mine died unexpectedly last year and it made me realise that life really can be too short and you get out of it what you put in. I think the American collegiate system of majors and minors would also suit me academically as I enjoy studying a wide range of subjects and am undecided as to what I’d like to specialise in. I have been selected to represent Surrey County and Hampshire County schools in both Cross Country and Track and have been a key member of medal winning teams. My biggest achievements being a second place finish at the South of England 1500m championships and placing 10th at the U17 National 3000m championships. I also currently hold 7 club records at my athletics club and have captained my school track and field and cross country teams to multiple championships. I feel I am an all-round performer as I have also achieved many academic awards such as; school prizes for Chemistry, Drama, Academic excellence and Contribution to school life. I have recently been awarded the roles of Sports Captain and House captain for the forthcoming year and currently hold an academic scholarship for my sixth form education.
