FREYA WARD HOCKEY REFERENCE Tuesday 5th January, To whom it may concern, I have coached Freya for seven years at Burgess Hill Girls and she has developed into a fantastic player. When she joined the school she had never played hockey before, and through the years she has grown from strength to strength. At an early age she showed natural ability in a number of areas; hand eye co-ordination, speed, agility, balance and an excellent understanding of the game. All these attributes helped her to quickly develop as a player and grasp the basic core skills as well as the more complex skills. Freya was a member of the school ‘A’ team and captained the side for six years, showing outstanding leaderships skills. She is also extremely organised, builds excellent rapport with her team mates and has a high level of fitness. Freya is an excellent role model to have in any side. She went onto to represent the Tonbridge Tigers (Regional Level) and is currently playing for one of the leading clubs in England, East Grinstead 2nd XI, with the possibility of playing for the 1st XI. Freya’s main strength within the game is her passing; she has the ability to pick out a pass and unlock the defence with ease. She executes a short or long pass at pace and with accuracy. Freya also demonstrates a strong block tackle, showing superb footwork, balance and timing. She has the ability to then show composure and distribute the ball extremely effectively. Her work rate has improved significantly over the last two years and this has really improved her game. She has tremendous work ethic around the pitch, carrying the ball at speed in attack, but more importantly is prepared to track back defensively and turn the ball over. Freya has limited weaknesses in her game, but with more confidence I believe she could be a little more clinical in her 1 v 1 elimination skills in the final 25 of the pitch. There are occasions when she should carry the ball more into the attacking circle and be more assertive in getting a shot on goal quickly in a pressurised situation. She is without doubt an outstanding hockey player who would be an asset in any team playing at a high level. She has huge potential within the game and with quality coaching will be a star for the future. Yours sincerely
Miss S.L.Clapp (Head of PE)
