Welcome by Ivan Derrick Personal Statement Tennis has always been a part of my life: I started trying to play with my Mother at 13 months and was asking for coaching at the age of 2. It was something that came very naturally to me, I received my first scholarship from Tennis England aged five. I started having success in competitive match play quickly, representing my county, Middlesex, repeatedly and even having a number of regional trials. After a bad injury that kept me off court for a long while, I spent some time abroad at tennis schools such as Sanchez-Casal in Barcelona and the Nick Saviano Tennis Academy in Miami. My game rapidly progressed and Nick Saviano offered me a scholarship to one of his elite programs on my latest trip. Having spent more time in Britain improving my rating, which currently stands at 3.2. I undertook work experience at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy in New York last summer which enabled me, after my work during the day, to train with the national-standard juniors that were practicing there. Now, I see collegiate-level tennis as the next step for me to progress my game, play against elite opposition and hopefully push me forward to what could potentially be a career for me in the future.

To whom it may concern, Ivan is extremely dedicated, works hard and has the experience of competing in a team tennis based environment. Ivan's game is built around his strong first serve and using his forehand to dominate points from the back. He is very quick and athletic making him very tough to beat and suiting him to the slower hard courts in the US. Another attribute is having been at Reed's school he understands the demands of balancing his studies alongside the on and off training required for the tennis team.
