Welcome from hsbc Welcome to the HSBC Women’s Champions 2013 and especially to this exciting new chapter with the event’s first outing at the Sentosa Golf Club. This tournament has rapidly become known as ‘Asia’s Major’ event for women golfers and HSBC is honoured to be involved with it. The HSBC Women’s Champions is a significant part of our stable of tournaments stretching from Asia to Brazil. They reflect our commitment to supporting the development of golf worldwide, particularly in emerging markets. These sponsorships are part of our broader portfolio, which in sport includes Rugby Union. Like golf, rugby will return to the Olympics in 2016, and this has been a driving force behind the unprecedented growth in both sports. They are also being taken up in countries where they previously attracted little or no participation. That growth, and the fact that we aim to uphold the same core values of honesty and integrity that are crucial in golf, underpins HSBC’s continued backing for the sport. We are happy to note that we were as quick to spot the potential growth in sports as we have been in identifying the world’s developing markets. No sponsorship has been more dramatic than the HSBC Women’s Champions, which brings the elite of women’s golf to Singapore and creates a stage for them to display their world-class golfing talent. That achievement is a testament to the hard work of everyone who helps make this tournament a success, from the volunteers to everyone at Sentosa Golf Club, our partners IMG, the LPGA and all our co-sponsors. I offer my best wishes to all the competitors and believe you will have an extremely appreciative audience throughout this event. Thank you all for taking part and, most importantly, enjoy the tournament.

Welcome from hsbc singapore This marks a watershed year for this world-class tournament for two reasons. First, we announced a three-year extension to our title sponsorship of the HSBC Women’s Champions and, second, we have moved to our new home at the Sentosa Golf Club. After five great years at the Tanah Merah Country Club, this marks the dawn of a new era. One of the key reasons the HSBC Women’s Champions came to Singapore was because we saw the stars rising in the East and there is no better time than now to be involved in the development of both Asian golf and women’s golf. We believe that the HSBC Women’s Champions has been an important catalyst for this, so much so that many now refer to the tournament as ‘Asia’s Major’. You only need to look at the HSBC Women’s Champions roll of honour to see the quality of the event. They include American reigning champion Angela Stanford and previous winners who are international golfing stars, such as Lorena Ochoa (Mexico), Jiyai Shin (South Korea), Ai Miyazato (Japan) and Karrie Webb (Australia). This year marks our tenth year as a major international sponsor of golf – we are very proud of our golf sponsorships and the last decade has been an incredible journey for us. As the world’s leading international bank, we always endeavour to look forward into the future, which is why we recently commissioned a report titled ‘Golf’s 2020 Vision’ – a study that will examine where the sport will be at the turn of the next decade. As a long term sponsor of the sport, we believe we have the opportunity to help shape the future of golf. Our aim has always been to connect our customers to opportunities and the HSBC Women’s Champions has helped as we build long-term, sustainable relationships with our customers, our colleagues and the community in Singapore. On this note, we wish all the golf fans, who have gathered here to cheer and support the best players in women’s golf, a very enjoyable experience.

Welcome from img Welcome to the sixth HSBC Women’s Champions and our first edition here at the impressive Sentosa Golf Club. This event is now firmly established on the LPGA schedule and each year it continues to grow in prestige. We hope to continue to build on the successes of five wonderful years we enjoyed at the Tanah Merah Country Club as we make our new home here on Sentosa Island. It was an enthralling 2012 season on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and one which underlined the terrific strength and depth of the Tour and the ever-increasing dominance of Asian golf. All of the four Major winners of the year hail from Asia – all of whom we are delighted to welcome here this week - along with world number one, Yani Tseng, who is looking to get her season off to a winning start. We are also delighted to welcome back our defending champion, Angela Stanford, who won in a dramatic play-off at Tanah Merah Country Club last year. She will face the formidable challenge from a field containing 18 of the world’s Top 20 and including HSBC Women’s Champions past winners Jiyai Shin, Ai Miyazato and Karrie Webb. IMG is very proud of this tournament and the partnership we have with HSBC as our title sponsor. This is, without doubt, one of the players’ favourite events on the Tour with HSBC leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the event lives up to its unofficial title of ‘Asia’s Major.’ We are looking forward to seeing how the world’s best players tackle the new challenge of The Serapong Course and to seeing them enjoy the wonderful facilities here at the Sentosa Golf Club as the World’s best women golfers set the tone for the 2013 season to come. The synergies between HSBC and this event resonate globally with their local customers being treated to a wonderful golfing experience. Beyond Singapore, a global audience will witness the action across TV and new media with excitement and drama on every hole. We would like to thank HSBC and all of our co-sponsors as without them the HSBC Women’s Champions would not be possible. We hope that you have a wonderful four days of golfing action in Singapore as you watch the world’s best women’s golfers do battle. Good luck to all the players competing this week

Welcome from lpga On behalf of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), welcome to the HSBC Women’s Champions. When 13 women joined together to form the LPGA in 1950, they simply could not have imagined where their courage would take women’s golf. Today, the LPGA has players from 30 different countries and our tournaments are televised in more than 160 different countries. Last year, more than 2.5 million television viewers in the U.S. alone watched the best female players compete to be the best in the world. The game has truly become global and young women from every corner of the globe now have the opportunity to compete against the best players in the world. It’s an exciting time for the LPGA Tour. Last year we saw double-digit growth in our worldwide fan base, social media following, television ratings and corporate partnerships. Our tournament schedule is expanding, and as a result, the LPGA will enjoy more television coverage in 2013, than in any other time in our 63-year history. “Homecomings” will be the theme of the 2013 LPGA Tour season. With tournaments in 13 different countries, our tour schedule provides many of our players an opportunity to play in their hometowns or countries – whether that “home” is in America, Europe or Asia. This year the LPGA will also return to the home of golf, St. Andrews, which plays host to the best women golfers in the world for just the second time in its storied history. These “homecomings” – and the wonderful stories of each of our world-class players – continue to be the backbone of our Tour and it’s a chance for us to celebrate what makes this Tour so special. We continue to challenge everyone to “See Why It’s Different Out Here” – and see for themselves, that our athletes are unlike any others in the world. They are not only the best female golfers on the planet, but they are also friendly, approachable, and like the LPGA Founders, they are committed to leaving the game better than they found it. All that said, we realise that none of this would be possible without the partnership of companies like HSBC. I would like to personally thank HSBC for their commitment to women’s golf. I would also like to thank the tournament staff for their tireless efforts, the Sentosa Golf Club for being such welcoming hosts, the wonderful volunteer corps, and you, the fans, who make this event – and our Tour – what it is today. This week, I look forward to walking with you, cheering with you, and being inspired by you – together we are the LPGA. Enjoy the tournament and don’t forget to visit the LPGA on Twitter, Facebook and LPGA.com! Sincerely,

Michael Whan LPGA Fan and Commissioner

Welcome from Sentosa For nearly 40 years, the Club has been bringing golfing excellence to our members and guests. It has been the venue for international events including the Singapore Men’s Open for the last eight years, the British Open Championship International Final Qualifying in 2009, and the World Final for amateur golfers in 2012. We are delighted to join hands with HSBC to present the sixth edition of its Women’s Champions event at Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course. The Serapong is widely regarded as one of the best championship golf courses in Asia, and recently received accolades for ‘Best Course in Singapore’ and the runners-up spot for ‘Best Championship Course in Asia Pacific’ at the 2012 Asian Golf Monthly Awards. I hope you will enjoy following this stellar field out on the course, and take time to experience the rest of the island’s entertainment at the end of each day’s play. Have a great time at the HSBC Women’s Champions!

HSBC SPECTATOR GUIDE Sixty three of the world’s best female golfers are here at Sentosa Golf Club but the HSBC Women’s Champions is more than just a fantastic golf tournament. Here’s some important information that will help you enjoy a great day out for the entire family. Golf is a game of etiquette for players and spectators so there are some important rules to remember when following the action at ‘Asia’s Major’. NO CAMERAS OR MOBILE PHONES or other messaging or photographic equipment are permitted on the course at any time. Flashes, ring tones and beepers are an annoyance to everyone, especially the players. There are areas off the course where you will be able to use them without disturbing play. Please refer to the maps and signage for these locations. PLEASE ENSURE ALL MOBILE PHONES ARE ON SILENT. OBEY THE MARSHALS & STAY BEHIND THE ROPES. Marshals are there to help the event run smoothly so please follow their instructions and stay behind the rope lines to ensure that everyone enjoys the world-class golf without affecting play. STAND STILL & KEEP QUIET DURING PLAY. The slightest movement, noise or distraction can affect the players’ concentration. Please help them to play their best by remaining motionless and quiet as they prepare and take their shot. However, feel free to celebrate and cheer them if they hit a good shot. NO AUTOGRAPHS DURING PLAY. Please do not disturb players during play, and then they will be more likely to spend time signing autographs after their hard work is done. BE RESPECTFUL TO ALL. Let’s follow the players’ example of good sportsmanship – whether they are your favourite or not, all the players deserve respect and encouragement.

Stanford seals a memorable victory ANGELA Stanford took great satisfaction in winning what she described as ‘the next best thing to a Major title’ with her play-off victory over Jenny Shin, Shanshan Feng and Na Yeon Choi at last year’s HSBC Women’s Champions. “I haven’t won a major yet, so this is the closest thing so far,” smiled Stanford. “The best players in the world are all here and they call it Asia’s Major, so it’s the closest thing to me.” Stanford was a model of consistency all week with rounds of 66-70-71-71 at Singapore’s Tanah Merah

Country Club for her 10 under par total and she finally won with a par on the third extra hole, knocking out Korean teenager Jenny Shin after Choi and Feng had been eliminated in the two previous trips down the tough closing hole. Playing in the final three-ball of the day, Stanford, Shin and Katie Futcher all had one hole to play in regulation before a huge electrical storm caused a one-and-a-half hour delay. Shin was leading on 12-under to Stanford’s 11-under while Futcher was out of contention. When play restarted

16

Shin suffered a double bogey six while Stanford missed a six foot par putt which would have won her the tournament – so they both signed for a 10 under par total to finish alongside Choi and Feng. In overtime Feng was first to drop out before Choi was knocked out at the second extra hole, leaving Stanford and Shin to fight it out for a third time. Shin’s second shot to the 18th green found the putting surface but a grassy indent blocked her path to the hole, leaving her with an awkward chip shot. She chipped it up to four feet but missed the putt, leaving Stanford with a par putt for victory. Stanford duly holed out to become the first-ever American winner on Asian soil in LPGA Tour history and add her name to a roll of honour that consists of Karrie Webb, Ai Miyazato, Jiyai Shin and the winner of the inaugural event in 2008, Lorena Ochoa. “I feel extremely honoured to be in that group of players and to be the first American to get a win is pretty special,” she said. “Everybody knows this is one of the premier events on tour and always has the best players.” Stanford knows she will have her work cut out if she is to become the first player to successfully defend the HSBC Women’s Champions as once again a truly elite field is assembled to compete for the honour this week. “Much depends on whether it’s one of those courses that you need to ‘feel’ a lot but, either way, a new course

One player Stanford will have to overcome is her talented compatriot Stacy Lewis, winner of last year’s LPGA Player of the Year award following four wins. “It’s nice playing in Asia,” said World No.3 Lewis. “I am looking forward to competing in this tournament again and I believe it will be another great experience to play 4

in a new course this year. I hope I can do better in 2013, starting from this tournament.” Eighteen of the top 20 in the world are in the field this week making it one of the strongest tournaments of the season. The line-up includes the top six players in the World: Yani Tseng, Na Yeon Choi; Stacy Lewis; Inbee Park, Shanshan Feng and Suzann Pettersen. Singapore will be represented by qualifier Christabel Goh as she secured her place in the field after winning a play-off against Su-Ann Heng in the Host Country Qualifying Tournament at The Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club. “It’s always a good feeling to win,” said Goh, who qualified for the second time, having also won the qualifying tournament in 2011. “Back in 2011, it was quite daunting to compete against the world’s best female golfers, but now I have that experience behind me and having worked on my swing and my short game over the last year, I am hoping for a strong performance this year.” Other notable players in action at Sentosa Golf Club

HSBC – Championing Golf Worldwide AS a long-standing sponsor of golf, HSBC is committed to growing golf at every level, which is why you’re just as likely to find us hosting a kids’ bunker clinic in downtown Shanghai as you are rubbing shoulders with golf’s glitterati in Abu Dhabi. With four flagship events around the globe plus a brand new men’s tournament in Brazil in April, HSBC is right at the heart of elite level golf. However, underpinning these blue-riband events is a longer-term goal to create a legacy through our sponsorship of youth development and grassroots programmes.

Today’s prodigies are tomorrow’s superstars. This year marks HSBC’s tenth anniversary as a major international sponsor of golf. In that time we have been involved in 30 tournaments and 1,000 golf days and helped thousands of children worldwide get involved in the game of golf. This year heralds a new dawn for our portfolio. In the last few months we have signed a three year extension to our sponsorship of the HSBC Women’s Champions here in Singapore and announced details of upgraded status for our

20

flagship WGC-HSBC Champions which this year returns home to Shanghai, where the bank was founded back in 1865. Last month we kicked off the year with another successful Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and this summer sees us return to the home of golf for the 142nd Open Championship at Muirfield in Scotland. Before then we’re sponsoring a brand new event on the Web.com Tour called Brasil Champions presented by HSBC in Sao Paulo in April. This is the first time the tour has been to Brazil and represents a major 4

breakthrough for both the tour and HSBC. It’s great to be back in Singapore. As well as signing the three year extension to our title sponsorship of the HSBC Women’s Champions we have moved to our new home at the Sentosa Golf Club. After five great years at the Tanah Merah Country Club we are delighted to be at the southern tip of Singapore. This tournament has earned the reputation as “Asia’s Major” and year after year we’ve attracted the world’s finest golfers with previous winners including famous names such as Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa, Karrie Webb from Australia, Ai Miyazato from Japan and American reigning champion Angela Stanford. It’s been fascinating to see the development of both Asian golf and women’s golf in recent years and we truly believe one of the catalysts to this growth has been the grassroots programmes we’ve put in place across Asia. In China, HSBC supports the HSBC

China Junior Golf Programme, a sustainable long-term structure and framework upon which the future of Chinese golf is being built. This includes the HSBCsponsored China National Junior Team, the HSBC China Junior Open and the HSBC National Junior Golf Championship: a year-long series of tournaments designed to give China’s elite junior golfers the competitive platform they need to develop their game.

Framework is working If you’re looking for evidence that this framework is working, look no further than 16-year-old amateur Jing Yan who last year became the youngest Chinese female golfer ever to play in a major tournament when she appeared in the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool. The Beijing-born teenager has been a member of the China national team since she was 12 and is a graduate of the HSBC China Junior Golf Programme. She

also won the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge in Singapore in 2008. She is one of many success stories to emerge in recent years. In Singapore specifically, our initiatives such as the HSBC Youth Golfers Programme and the HSBC Youth Golfers Excellence Programme have helped drive up the number of young golfers in the past five years. To date, more than 2,000 students across 10 schools have benefitted from the HSBC Youth Golfers Programme. The programme commenced in 2006 as part of our global sponsorship strategy and long-term investment in golf. Students who showed great potential were hand-picked for comprehensive training under the HSBC Youth Golfers Excellence Programme to ensure that they are fully-equipped as accomplished golfers. Our main focus currently is the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge which was introduced to give Singapore’s 4

top young golfers additional opportunities to compete against one another, both to gain more experience of competition and also as a way of spurring one another on to even greater improvements. All in all, Singapore continues to be of huge significance in our global golf portfolio. It’s also been a remarkable few months for our flagship event in the men’s game. In November we announced a three year extension to our title sponsorship of the WGC-HSBC Champions and a return to the Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai after a year at Mission Hills Golf Club, Dongguan, in 2012. More significantly though, it was announced that the WGC-HSBC Champions would become part of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup schedule, with money earned counting as official money on the PGA Tour, and the winner earning a threeyear exemption on the PGA TOUR, with the opportunity to join the

organisation if he is a non-member. The WGC-HSBC Champions will also award full FedExCup points, plus the 10 percent premium awarded by all World Golf Championships compared to a regular PGA Tour event. There was more good news earlier this month when the PGA of America confirmed that from this year the WGC-HSBC Champions

23

will also award Ryder Cup points. The total purse has also increased from US$7 million to US$8.5 million and the changes bring the HSBC Champions in line with the other three World Golf Championships played in the United States. to bring the world’s best players together and have, since 1999, delivered the highest-quality, most international fields in the sport. HSBC Global Head of Sponsorship and Events, Giles Morgan, said: “The WGC-HSBC Champions is our flagship event and one of the things we’re most proud of is the qualification criteria with the majority of the field qualifying only by winning a key tournament on their Tours or by being ranked in the top 50. This absolutely guarantees we’ll have a glittering array of golfing talent in Shanghai and the fact the players will also be battling it out for The Final Series, the new conclusion to the European Tour season, adds even greater lustre to what promises to be a thrilling climax to the season. “When we first came to China in 2005 our ambition was to create a world-class international golf tournament in an emerging market – eight years on and it really feels like we’ve achieved that ambition. “As a global banking and financial services organisation, we pride ourselves on opening up a world of opportunities for people and WGCHSBC Champions has proved to be the perfect stage for men’s golf in Asia to come of age.”

Guan Tian Lang, winner of last year’s Asia-Pacific Amateur, will make his Masters debut in April.

The victorious China Junior Golf team pose with the trophy after defeating the United States in the USA-China Youth Match in California last year.

As with the women’s game, HSBC’s grassroots programmes have proved to be the launchpad for some of the newest stars in men’s golf. Last summer saw 14-year-old Chinese golfer Andy Zhang become the youngest player ever to qualify for a major when he took part in the US Open. Zhang, like Jing Yan in the women’s game, is a graduate of the HSBC China Junior Golf Programme. In November another product of the HSBC China Junior Golf Programme 14-year-old Guan Tian Lang won the 2012 Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Championship in

24

Thailand and with it qualification for the Masters in Augusta this spring. These are not isolated cases. Last year also saw a landmark victory with a China junior team beating the USA in their own backyard at the USA-China Youth Golf match at the CordeValle Golf Resort in San Martin, California. Out of the nine players selected to represent China, eight of them had previously won the HSBC Junior Championships Final while the other one was a runner-up. Additionally, eight of them have participated in the Pro-am event at the WGC-HSBC Champions.

Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tiger Woods toast the 2013 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

It is these young golfers who will be the stars of our flagship events in the future. However, HSBC is also keen to develop talent in other emerging markets which is why we’ve just announced our latest sponsorship, a brand new event on the Web. com Tour called Brasil Champions presented by HSBC. As the sporting world prepares for golf to re-join the Olympics in Rio 2016, HSBC is investing in this new tournament taking place at the Sao Paulo Golf Club in April. The Web.com Tour is the developmental tour for the U.S. based PGA Tour and, since there is now no longer a Tour School, it represents the main opportunity to earn a place on the PGA Tour. Those who are in the top 25 of the money list at year’s end are given PGA Tour memberships for the next season and this new 72 hole, full-field tournament in Brazil is yet another example of HSBC’s pioneering spirit.

Last month saw us host Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and numerous golfing superstars at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship which was won by Welshman Jamie Donaldson. As we did in China in 2005, we have invested in this emerging market and this tournament has become the jewel in the crown of Middle Eastern golf. As a centre of international trade, Abu Dhabi is the perfect location for a high profile HSBC event and in the future Abu Dhabi will be a world famous golfing destination in its own right.

Patron of The Open HSBC is also proud to be a patron of the oldest golf tournament in the world, The Open Championship. This year marks the third year of the partnership as the event heads home to Scotland at the worldfamous Muirfield course to witness the world’s greatest golfers do battle for the famous Claret Jug trophy.

27

But even with the most traditional of tournaments HSBC has one eye on the future. Last year we teamed up with leading consumer research agency, The Futures Company, to produce “Golf’s 2020 Vision”, a detailed look at the future of golf based on interviews with a number of leading industry experts and players such as Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie, Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam. As in other key markets, HSBC is investing in the future of golf in the UK though its sponsorship of HSBC Golf Roots – The Golf Foundation’s national development programme which promotes the sport in schools, helps youngsters into clubs, and uses golf to promote important life skills such as honesty and respect. Whether it’s Singapore or Scotland, grassroots or elite, our ambition is the same: to grow the game of golf at all levels. We look forward to another ten years of supporting this wonderful game. n
