Cypress Bay High School’s Electric Appeal for New Building 24th Annual Joe Dimaggio Children’s Hospital

Students, teachers, staff, and community members recently celebrated the opening of Cypress Bay High School’s new 62 classroom building addition during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, October 11. The beautiful, state-of-the art building now serves approximately 1,500 students at a time.

This multiyear project is now a reality for the students and staff at the Bay. During the ceremony, Principal Kassandra Fried shared her praise and spoke of the excitement for her students and her staff. The ceremony took place outside the new building heart and center surrounded by the support of our City of Weston community members and Broward County Public Schools District officials.

BCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright spoke about the admiration she had for our teachers, staff, and students during a worldwide pandemic and how the success of the construction of the new building would now be the permanent home of our teachers and students who, for so long, occupied the portables on the CBHS Campus.

The lightning bolt shaped structure draws much attention to itself with the many functional and state-of-the-art features. The building surrounding has an open feel and its industrial features make every classroom an experience for our students. Our physics labs have sophisticated tools for experiments and open spaces for lab collaboration. An AP Art Sculpting Lab allows our students to have an open space for creativity and can easily transition to an outdoor experience with the lift of a garage door.

We house other major programs such as JROTC, HOSA, Business, and Robotics. The ESOL office consists of a reception area and 3 offices. Our ESOL Coordinator, a School Counselor, and a Behavior Specialist offer a space to service all our students, including our large ESOL student body of over 500 students and their parents. The ESOL Resource Room Lab allows for parent workshops, small group instructional pull-out groups, testing and collaborative meetings.

The ceremony concluded with a tour of the school. “This new building will enable us to expand our educational services to the entire Cypress Bay community,” Fried said. “With the support of our teachers, staff, students, and entire community, our school has created the best learning environment for our students and generations to come.”
