EDITOR’S letter Sporting franchises can go up and down like yo-yos as we witnessed last Tuesday with NBA teams spending $1.4 Billion in one day to secure the future of their players.
Of all the sports though, Horse Racing to me is different. There is something about the bonding experience between horse and trainer that makes it unique. I’m not certain that there is any other comparable sport. When it’s the job of a trainer to treat an animal like your first born son day in and day out, a rare connection inevitably occurs for the sporting world to witness. It can’t be bought; only skill and talent can determine the outcome.

In our lifetime, there are sporting moments that we will never forget. Some of which we dare to even dream and others that seem to defy all odds and reasoning. To me, there is no doubt that the sporting world has just witnessed one of those epic and unforgettable, golden moments. What Bob Baffert, Trainer of ‘American Pharaoh’ and Jockey Victor Espinoza have just achieved was nothing short of a miracle. It’s astounding that this particular horse could win as comfortably as he did, especially in such competitive conditions. His innate ability to blow all the other horses away on such diverse track surfaces and strenuous challenges of these specific races made the Triple Crown win even more majestic. I look forward to telling the story of American Pharaoh to my children as this legend will always hold true to the notion that possibilities are attainable
and the magic of horse racing is very much alive. Thanks to American Pharoah, Horse Racing in the United States is back on the map! It is with a true passion that I bring to you July issue of SportsBet Magazine. Authentic in our expert analysis, accurate in the reporting of stats, up to the moment sporting news, betting trends and events. Coupled with wit, irony, and just the right amount of jest, it is our hope that SportsBet Magazine will be your ultimate sporting resource, simplistic betting platform, and pure entertainment for Sporting Enthusiasts. → TRIPLE CROWN A racehorse in the current era in 2015 has just won the Triple Crown.
“I DON’T THINK THE RACING WORLD HAS BEEN ABLE TO QUITE PUT INTO CONTEXT WHAT WE JUST WITNESSED. AMERICAN PHARAOH IS A TRUE LEGEND.” EDITOR I N C HIEF, MICH AEL MCCABE
What is even more impressive than winning the Triple Crown? The style in which he did it. He did it on pace under pressure in the derby, showed himself to be a swimmer in the wet conditions of the Preakness, and then blew them all away in the Belmont leaving everyone speechless. After he won the Arkansas Derby I bumped into trainer Bob Baffert at Clocker’s Corner at Santa Anita Race Course, business as usual for the ever so professional Baffert. I asked him, “Is your horse that good or were the others that bad?” He gave me an ever so sly grin, nodded and said it’s a beautiful day Mick. From that moment I’ve been in awe of this horse, his journey and trying to find a way to spend the ridiculous 4-1 they offered in the Derby. American Pharoah has now won seven of his eight starts, his only defeat coming on debut as a two-year-old last August at Del Mar. He has joined Affirmed (1978), Seattle Slew (1977), Secretariat (1973), Citation (1948), Assault (1946), Count Fleet (1943), Whirlaway (1941), War Admiral (1937), Omaha (1935), Gallant Fox (1930), and Sir Barton (1919) in racing’s most elite club. I dare wonder if any of those Horses would be good enough in 2015, and just how much the future holds for the new legend of this sport. Either way, racing is the true winner and American Pharaoh is our new legend of the Turf!

→ ROYAL ASCOT As always Royal Ascot was a Royal success with over 300,000 racegoers and spectators pouring in wearing nothing but their best attire over the five day Carnival. Britain's most popular race meeting carries prize money of 5.5 Million pounds and with eight group one races, the event attracts only the very best racehorses in the world. Lets take a look at some of the memorable moments it provided in 2015.
Q U E E N A N N E S TA K E S
Solow trained by Freddy Head and ridden by Maxime Guyon box seated the entire trip and kicked strong for a gallant victory. More grinding than fancy and the race itself, there was much disappointment when the true Able Friend didn't show up. Solow though proved he's a true stayer and will be nominated for the sussex Stakes at Goodwood next month.
ST JAMES'S PAL ACE STAKES Gleneagle was given a strong push by trainer Aiden O'Brien pre-race about his chances and didn't disappoint. Jockey Ryan Moore sat just off the speed and got him into the clear down the home straight and under hands and heels riding was simply too good for the rest. The plan will be to also head to the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, where on current form and exceptional turn of foot he should be winning.
COMMONWEALTH CUP Muhaarar took the honor as the first winner of the Commonwealth Cup, setting the standard very high. Many questioned the need for a three-year-old only Group One sprint, but the field justified the decision and Muhaarar justified the drop back to six furlongs with a classy performance. Ridden by jockey Dane O'Neill, the Gimcrack
Stakes winner showed no surprise and is now likely to run next in the July Cup. There has only been two three-yearold winners of the July Cup since Muhaarar’s sire; Oasis Dream won in 2003 but this colt could be the next.
BRAZEN BEAU
Ever so gallant in defeat, the Australian trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Craig Williams carried the hopes and dreams of a nation. Brazen beau is a true Australian Race story syndicated by Grant Morgan at Ontrack Thoroughbreds he has 38 owners of which 32 made the journey to Ascot. What was a $6000 5% share has now blossomed to be worth $600,000 after he was sold to
Godolphin for $10 Million for the next phase of his career as a stud. Consideration was given to run in the King's stand and the Diamond Jubilee but ultimately the decision was made to keep him fresh for the six furlongs on the Saturday. Eventually narrowly beaten in his bid for Royal Ascot glory, by American sprinter Undrafted overpowering him late in the straight. Jockey Craig Williams took a calculated risk on Brazen Beau by keeping him away from the rest of the field on the stand side. He said after the race that he believed the horse may have wanted to run to the left, but that the horse’s concentration had wavered at times down the Ascot straight. Craig was quoted as saying, “Unfortunately throughout the race on a couple of occasions, being on his own, he seemed to lose concentration. So it would have been an advantage if he was with another horse. Unfortunately that was just the way it was.” As it was to be “The Beau" fell just short of Ascot glory and the perfect end to the chapter. However for syndicate manager Grant Morgan and owners it was a dream come true and a sign of great things to come.

AUSTRALIAN RACING
Somewhere amongst the taste of world-class food, the sight of spectacular outfits, and the rolling thunder of hooves, lays the heart and soul of Queensland, Australia’s biggest time of the year: the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. Year after year nominations increase as does the popularity of the carnival around the country, and this year was no exception. Here’s a look back at the highlights:
STRADBROKE HANDICAP
length win. Srikandi has now won eight of her 12 starts and Saturday's victory took her earnings to more than $1.8 million.
The time-honored Stradbroke Handicap, as always, headlines the Brisbane Winter carnival, bringing together genuine Group I sprintermilers.
DOOMBEN 10000
GROUP 1 - 1350M $2,000,000 PRIZE MONEY
The combination of a capacity field at handicap conditions has produced some surprising results in recent years. This year, however, went against the grain with the The Ciaron Maher-trained Srikandi winning as favorite. Jockey, Kerrin McEvoy Srikandi was given a peach of a ride and when ridden forward to eyeball Hot Snitzel in the straight. Together they strode to the 200 where Srikandi showed too much class and easily beat him off in the end to record 1-3/4
GROUP 1 WFA - 1350M $750,000 PRIZE MONEY
The Doomben 10000 is Queensland’s premier WFA race. With the likes of superstars Apache Cat and Takeover Target as recent winners it carries an honor in recent times. This year produced a thrilling finish, but it was the Chris Waller trained Boban’s turn as he presented his trademark turn of foot to run over the top. Boban won by a long neck, with Charlie Boy second and Generalife three-quarters of a length third after
a wide trip throughout. It had been 9 starts since Boban’s last victory, but was perfectly ridden by the in form Glyn Schofield.
QUEENSLAND DERBY
GROUP 1 3YO - 2200M $600,000 PRIZE MONEY The Derby is the ultimate staying test for 3 year olds and always hosts many chances making it one of the most exciting races on the calendar. This year produced a big upset with the Mark Kavanagh trained Magicool producing a strong final sprint down the straight to win. Ridden by James Winks the Victorian jumped only fairly but produced his best late to out stay his rivals. Magicool, who normally is an on pace runner, was helped by the early speed and provided Winks with his sixth career group one victory.

SPORTSBET MAGAZINE’S
TOP 5 M O M E NTS FROM THE 2014/15 SEASON
#5 RUSSELL WESTBROOK With the long term injury of Oklahoma city star Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook stepped up and carried the OKC throughout the regular season and almost all the way into the playoffs. Russell finished the season with an incredible 11 triple doubles and led the competition in points per game at an average of 28.1. His highlight reel of the year has to be seen to be believed with some remarkable plays above and below the rim. He also put on a clinic for his peers in the All Star game easily collecting the MVP. In 2014/15 Russell Westbrook went from star to superstar!
#4 JAMES HARDEN In a word... explosive. How do you begin to describe a year in which Harden almost single handled took the Houston Rockets deep into the playoffs? From insane buzzer beaters, thunderous slams to off-the-dribble triples and so much more. The raging beard led the NBA in points with 2217, had three triple doubles and scored 50 or more in a game twice. His performance in any other season would almost guarantee an MVP for the trophy cabinet.
#3 ATLANTA HAWKS In January, 2015 the red hot Atlanta Hawks completed the first perfect sweep in a month in NBA history, going 17-0. There was buzzer beaters, raining 3 point plays and who could forget Kyle Corvers first dunk... the Hawks and Atlanta were on top of the world. They finished the regular season with the Eastern Conference’s best record at 60-22 but couldn’t take the momentum into the playoffs. It appeared they peeked a little too soon and may have carried a few injuries into the postseason.
#2 LEBRON JAMES Return of the King. This was the moment that Northeast Ohio had been waiting for since LeBron James famously took his talents to South Beach, Miami in 2010. It’s the result of an offseason filled with breathless speculation, culminating in the announcement that James would indeed be rejoining the team that drafted him back in 2003. As only Lebron does, he delivered! Lebron led a team with its best two backup starters missing in the finals to level the series at 2-2. He averaged 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists in the series. He seldom sat, supplying at least 45 minutes a night. His exhaustion clear for everyone to see, but wore the heart and pride of Cleveland on his sleeve and gave it everything.
#1 STEPHEN CURRY & THE WARRIORS Well where to start. Chef Curry was just a pleasure to watch. From start to finish we were supplied with memorable moments for generations to come. The entity that is Curry—encompassing his dribbling exploits, crafty passing and uncanny marksmanship, along with his crossover three’s led the NBA in 3 pointers with 286 and steals with 163. A true leader, Curry clearly took out the MVP and led the Warriors all the way to a Championship, the team’s first in 40 years. It’s only fitting to honor a 27-year-old who is simultaneously stretching the boundaries of point guard play in the NBA.

STUNNING STAN WINS FRENCH OPEN When it comes to grand slam finals, Stan Wawrinka is used to playing spoiler. After upsetting Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open last year, he engineered another major surprise Sunday by topping world No. 1 Novak Djokovic 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 in the French Open final to claim his second major title.Wawrinka isn’t a member of the “Big Four,” but his achievement at Roland Garros means the Swiss now has the same number of grand slam trophies as Andy Murray. While the Scot owns a 2-6 record in major finals, Wawrinka is a perfect 2-0. “I still have a problem to really realize that I won the French Open,” Wawrinka told reporters. “It’s always the same after winning a big title. You are a little bit lost in your mind.” Djokovic sunk to 8-8 and out went his 28-match winning streak overall.”Of course it hurts, especially because it was in the final,” Djokovic told reporters. “I think I’ve played a great clay-court season, a great Roland Garros, came to the position to really win this trophy.”He must be wondering if he’ll ever win the grand slam he so desperately craves and complete his collection. In the last two years, Djokovic hasn’t made it a secret that triumphing on the red clay in Paris was his main objective.”I know he’s looking badly and desperately for this title,” said the eighth-seeded Wawrinka.
But with each passing year and no title, he moves closer to the likes of Pete Sampras and Boris Becker -- one of his coaches -- in never winning the French Open while bagging the three other majors. This year could especially be a blow to Djokovic, since he toppled nine-time champion Nadal for the first time in seven tries at the French Open and followed it up by ending Murray’s 15-match winning streak on clay.
FA S T F O R W A R D WIMBLEDON LONDON, GREAT BRITAIN JUNE 29 - JULY 12 2015
History and tradition await the best players in the world as they head to Wimbledon for the only Grand Slam contested on grass. Lets take a quick look on recent form and who might be best poised to lift the trophy.
ANDY MURRAY Britain’s Andy Murray was in irresistible form as he dispatched first Viktor Troicki and then Kevin Anderson in the space of a few hours to win the ATP Queen’s Club tournament the official curtain raiser to Wimbledon. Murray was relentless, maneuvering his opponents around the court with ease, as he sent out an ominous warnings to his fellow competitors in the leadup to the Grand slam. It wasn’t so much the win that was impressive, but the style and ease he showed in doing so. Currently $3.50 and second pick
NOVAK DJOKOVIC Clearly a well deserved favorite, Djokovik has been an outstanding
player all year. He has yet to play a game on the grass, but that didn’t worry him in his last two victories on the court in 2011 & 2014. An unusual lead for the previous champ which hasn’t seemed to phase him the slightest. Currently favorite at $2.25
ROGER FEDERER Although his best tennis is clearly behind him now, he is still the world number two, well ahead of Murray on points, and barely breaking a sweat in his win at the ATP Halle grass tournament this week. If Federer has one more major in him, there is little doubt that it may just come at Wimbledon. Currently $7

US OPEN CH AMBERS BAY
The 2015 US Open headed to the Pacific Northwest where players were met with a course that looked more familiar to Scotland than Washington. Pristine conditions ensured fast greens and the unique capability of Chambers Bay’s versatility kept all players on their toes. The links style course allowed for multiple pin changes and hosted two holes that could be changed from par 4 to 5’s on any given day. At one point several players alluded to the greens being so fast and firm that they were nearly unplayable. SportsBet is here to dive in and take a look back at what happened.
TIGER WOODS Tiger had his worst performance in a major ever. The only thing worse than Tiger’s 16 over might be the way he got it. Consider these stats for a moment: • Hit 16 fairways, tied for 145th • Hit 21 greens in regulation, tied for 128th • Needed 73 putts in two days (a little over two a hole), tied for 151st • Only three birdies over two rounds at Chambers Bay • Averaged 297.5 yards off the tee, tied for 104th As sad as it is for Tiger fans around the world, the simple truth is the great man did absolutely nothing right at Chambers Bay. Knocking on the door of his 40th birthday combined with just looking completely lost on a golf course it’s hard to see where he will go
from here. If it was just one phase of the game, there’d be some kind of hope for a speedy and resilient recovery. But everything looked broken, and there’s no telling if he’ll be able to stage a comeback.
DUSTIN JOHNSON One of the best and most consistent golfer of the tournament. His driver was on point, short game was good and the tricky greens showed no problems for the American, that is for 3 rounds and 17 holes. Dustin was favorite at 3-1 heading into the final 18 and never really looked in doubt showing no signs of nerves until the final hole. His putter was the only question mark on the last day and after hitting two brilliant shots on the par-5, the seventh-ranked golfer in the world had a 12-foot putt for his first major win, then four feet for a tie and missed both putts. In sport, I hate to quote the word “choke” it’s often misused or misinterpreted, but I’m sorry DJ plain and simple his past demons got the better of him. That one is going to hurt for a longtime.
JORDAN SPIE TH Jordan electrified the crowd with a birdie from 26 feet on the 16th hole to take a three-shot lead with two holes to play. He then had to dig deep after hitting his worst shot of the day, a wayward iron into thick and tall grass that led to a double-bogey which erased his advantage on the 17th. The Masters winner had to gather himself during a walk through the tunnel from the 17th green to the 18th tee, mentally leaving behind the double
bogey that just happened. In the strength of a true champion Jordan went on to take a one shot lead and head to the clubhouse. The rest was history and possibly the one that DJ lost more than the one Spieth won, but the young man’s composure and sheer brilliance was shining for all to see. To put it in context after winning the 2015 US Open, he joined Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Craig Wood and Ben Hogan as the only golfers to ever win the Masters and US Open in the same year. Add to that Jordan is the youngest to ever do so, the future could hold just about anything for the young man. The Golfing world may have just revealed its next superstar. Bring on the British Open!
FA S T F O R W A R D
Jordan Spieth and the rest of the PGA tour will head across the pond in four weeks to an ancient village that is laden with lasting reminders from centuries past. With two legs of the Grand Slam run and won, the AllAmerican kid will now look for major win No. 3 in the British Open on the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, the birthplace of golf. Since 1860, The Open has been played over some of the world’s most cherished links courses and has produced a remarkable legacy of great champions. It is the oldest and most international championship in professional golf and the Claret Jug - first presented in 1873 - is one of the most iconic trophies in all of sport. Perhaps 2015 could quite possibly be the biggest of them all St Andrews.
* BETTING As expected, there are two red hot favorites heading into the British Open. The two young guns Mcilroy and Spieth will start as short as you’ll see in a major at $5 and $7 respectively. Historically, St. Andrews has a habit of producing winners who are the best of their generation. Tiger Woods produced performances in 2000 and 2005 that left him comfortably clear of the field, with victories by eight and five shots respectively. During the 2000 Open, Woods’ 19-under-par total surpassed the mark set by Nick Faldo ten years previously, when the Englishman shot 18-under-par to win by five. On that form line you would have to say one of these up and coming champions of the sport will be adding the Claret Jug of 2015 to the trophy cabinet.

→ ALL AUSTRALIAN REWIND
With round 13 wrapped up, and over half the AFL season complete lets take a look at the current top 4 and there chances in September.
FREM ANTLE Position: First (11 wins, 1 loss, 44 points, 135.5%) Next five: Brisbane Lions (DS), Hawthorn (AS), Carlton (DS), Richmond (MCG), GWS Giants (DS) Early judges thought the combination of the oldest list in the AFL and a straight sets exit in last years finals might see the Dockers on a decline this year. Wrong. Ross Lyon and his troops have been outstanding all year especially with a tough early draw. They now sit two games clear on top and it’s hard to see them not staying there the remainder of the season. The second half of the fixture looks to favor them with home games and their biggest test will come in round 17 when they head to Launceston to tackle the Hawks. Currently $3.50 to win the flag and if they’ve genuinely learned anything from last years shock finals exit, and if they stay healthy they could give it a real shake. FIRESTARTER - Hayden Ballantyne - By his standards struggled thus far this year to kick as many goals as he would like. Shows room for improvement for the Dockers and he could be a crucial goalscorer come finals time. When he scores, they win.
WEST COAST EAGLES
Position: second (9 wins, 3 losses, 36 points, 153.5%) Next five: Melbourne (TIO), Adelaide Crows (DS), Collingwood (ES), Sydney Swans (DS), Gold Coast Suns (MS) The surprise packet of 2015 so far, the Eagles midfield and forward line has led them into a potential top two finish. After suffering some injury setbacks losing Brown and Mackenzie for the season, it has been full forward Josh Kennedy who has stepped up to be ten clear in the race for the Coleman medal. Key games ahead for the Eagles include a home game against Sydney in round 17, which could potentially be for a top two spot in September and a home finals advantage.
They will also meet Hawthorn two weeks later which will be there measuring stick going forward.have to wait much longer for their two teams, with the worst records, to go head to head on May 2nd. Currently $10 to win the flag and if they are able to hold onto a top two spot, good value. FIRESTARTER - Nic Naitanui - By numbers the Eagles have played finals in Nics best two years, in 2011 & 2012. He’s a huge playmaker and a key to their success. Giving his teammates first use of the footy has been a big reason there midfielders have been so dominant, if he’s fit and firing there well in the hunt.
SYDNEY SWANS
Position: third (9 wins, 3 losses, 36 points, 131.7%) Next five: Port Adelaide (SCG), Brisbane Lions (Gabba), Hawthorn (ANZ), West Coast Eagles (DS), Adelaide Crows (SCG) The mentally scarred Swans who were utterly embarrassing in last years Grand Final, have surged into the top 3 and revenge was oh so sweet when they beat the Hawks in round eight. The Swans still have plenty of work to do although unlucky to not be sitting second right now. They will have to face West Coast and Hawthorn in back to back games in round 16 and 17 which will let us know if they’re true contenders in 2015. Currently $4 in betting and a realistic chance in September. FIRESTARTER - Kieran Jack - The co captain leads by example, doesn’t get the accolades and press as some of his team mates, but his tackles and ability to win contested possessions ignite the Swans engine room.
H AW THORN
Position: fourth (8 wins, 4 losses, 32 points, 152.7%) Next five: Collingwood (MCG), Fremantle (AS), Sydney Swans (ANZ), Carlton (ES), Richmond (MCG) After a slow start to the season the Hawks looked to have a premiership hangover. Glimpses of form, but couldn’t put back to back wins together until round 11. They’ve now won four in a row and look to be reestablishing themselves as the competitions team to beat. They take on collingwood on friday night which will be a true test to see where there at, they then have a tough stretch facing Fremantle, West Coast and the Swans on the run home. The Hawks are currently flag favorites at $3, the reigning premiers look to be peeking at the right time however a tough stretch lies ahead. FIRESTARTER - Isaac Smith - The Speedster has been a great recruit for the Hawks since joining them back in 2010. He averages 20 touches a game and the Hawks have won 76 of 90 games with his dynamic speed in the side.

→ THE ASHES REWIND
“With the Ashes scorecard reading Australia 32 - England 31, if the Aussies were to get the jump on the Poms this summer in England they might never bounce back”, Michael McCabe, SportsBet Magazine Editor-in-Chief. The most sought after Test series is nearly upon us; when the Australian test squad led by Michael Clarke heads to Cardiff, England for the first ball of the series on July 8th, 2015. After Australia embarrassed them at home in 2013, reclaiming the Ashes after just three tests and going on to sweep England 5-0 the English cricket community will be after blood. The Ashes rich tradition dates back
to 1882, when Australia beat England on their home soil for the first time. The very next day the Sporting Times published a mock obituary of English cricket, hence the term Ashes. Test Cricket is a true testament to one’s character, patience and skill. The ultimate level where in 5 matches over 5 days there is nowhere to hide. Bring it on.
FA S T F O R W A R D
Can Michael Clarke’s men replicate the success of Steve Waughs side back in 2001? That is the burning question. Australia might have white washed the Poms at home, but have failed to bring home the Urn on their last three visits to England. With a deadly pace attack, spearheaded by Mitchell Johnson and with the accuracy of stars
Starc and Hazelwood, they are certain to rattle the English batting lineup. Combined with a batting lineup that boasts Smith, Clarke and Warner, we can see foundations that are very similar to the side that was successful in 2001. England is coming off the back of a somewhat surprising tour of New Zealand. They looked refreshed and seemed to have found new hope having critics calling the entry of a new era for Alastair Cooks men. If they are going to compete with the ‘ in-form’ Aussies, they’ll need to dare to be different. They need to come out on the attack take it up to the bowlers, try and match Australia’s run rate. If they can do that, it will certainly be interesting.

In order to accomplish this feat, Mitchell Johnson has to lead the way with the ball @$3.25 and Smith with the bat @$3.25. $9.50 for the double a lot better than the $1.38 offered for the series win. As we approach the halfway mark of the 2015 MLB Season, let’s take a look at the teams on the rise, how they got there and their genuine chances moving forward.
HOUSTON ASTROS The young and mighty Astros have been the surprise punch in the MLB this season. After going through a rebuilding phase the past few years, loyal fans are starting to see a glimpse of their true potential. The ability to score has been equalled only by the Yankees at the current halfway point, throw in their airtight bullpen and they are a serious force going forward. The bullpen has been there major key, as Astro relievers have posted the second-best ERA (2.60) in the AL and have limited the opposition to the lowest average (.194) in the majors. CURRENTLY $15 TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES
L A DODGERS The Dodgers have been solid without setting the world on fire this season. Good news
is they have room to peek, bad news is that with the season-ending injuries to Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy, the Dodgers have their rotation depth looking thin. The brightest spark has come from center fielder Joc Pederson, who has provided highlight reels of catches in the field and been dominant on the plate. Peterson is just the second rookie in history to rack 20 home runs before the all star break. The other? Albert Pujols! CURRENTLY $8 TWO WIN THE WORLD SERIES
WASHINGTON N ATION ALS The Washington Nationals have one of the best records in the league at the midway benchmark of the season. The strength of Bryce Harper and Max Scherzer have been there backbone. Harper has been battering the NL in 2015, as the 22-year-old owns the best OPS (1.180) in the majors and has cracked 24 home runs, which is already a career high. Meanwhile, Scherzer has been worth every dime of his $17.1 million salary this year. He
recently reeled off a threestart stretch in which he gave up just six hits and posted a 0.69 ERA On the downside, they’ve already lost key players to injury for extended periods of time and will need to stay fighting fit and healthy if they’re to compete in the World Series. CURRENTLY $7 TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES
ST LOUIS CARDIN ALS If numbers don’t lie, the Cardinals are easily the best team in baseball. Currently 52-24, their rotation and the pen both lead the majors in ERA. Young starters Michael Wacha (2.77 ERA), Carlos Martinez (2.80 ERA) and Lance Lynn (2.84 ERA) have been particularly dominant. As for the lineup, the biggest strength is that they aren’t dependent on any single player. From Jhonny Peralta and Matt Carpenter to Kolten Wong and Randal Grichuk, St. Louis has been getting production from hitters up and down the batting order. Dangerous sign for the opposition in the second half of the season. CURRENTLY $6 TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES

REWIND FIJI PRO
The Fiji Pro 2015 delivered everything all sporting fans around the globe have been waiting for. After an average start to the WSL season, the intensely firing Cloudbreak was the showcard as perfect 6-10ft conditions throughout the waiting period and delivered a combination of rippable long lefts and hollow tubes. There were some very notable early exits including current ratings leader Adriano De Souza and fellow Brazilian Filepe Toledo. Wildcard Dane Reynolds took down some big scalps and Kelly Slater initially seemed to be the man to beat in the early rounds but unfortunately. it wasn’t to be as both surfers went down in round 5 wave starved heats. It was the tour veterans Kai Otton and Jeremy Flores who have struggled somewhat over the past few years to take a turn and bounce back. Both surfers excelling in the powerful conditions and matching up in the quarter finals. They traded off epic Cloudbreak barrels until Kai Otton took a heavy wipeout hitting the reef and calling it a heat. In other quarter final matchups the rookie Italo Ferriera would take on Julian Wilson, Italo found himself collecting some great points but was no match for the on- fire Julian Wilson. Owen Wright was unstoppable against Joel Parkinson and Taj Burrows did enough to take down rookie Wiggoly Dantas.
Through the entire event there was one Australian that shined bright and stood tall in all conditions, making history was Owen Wright who not only became the fifth surfer in history to collect a perfect 20 but the first ever to do it twice in an event. The Australian put on a Cloudbreak clinic! Scoring big tubes and some serious man turns on his way to winning the Fiji Pro. Owen surfed his way into history and the spotlight as he jumped into third position on the leaderboard with a stellar performance that let the surfing industry know he’s back! After a huge injury setback in 2013 it took nearly all off 2014 for the goofy footer to find his feet, he now appears to be back to his brilliant best! .
FA S T F O R W A R D JEFFREYS BAY, EASTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA JULY 8-19 Jeffreys is known as a quality righthand pointbreak, one of the best in the world, that pumps with unparalleled consistency. Smooth barrels that can break as long as 300 meters, it’s fast, powerful and hollow rides are the perfect canvas for the world’s best! Last year Jbay was inducted back onto the WCT and the surfers weren’t disappointed, as the South African gem produced swell from day 1 of the waiting period till the final. Mick Fanning was triumphant over fellow Australian Joel Parkinson in 2014 and the Aussie duo who call Snapper Rocks home will be favorites again this year.

Recent history suggests it’s a ‘regular foot’ paradise, with recent winners Mick Fanning, Jordy Smith, Joel Parkinson and Kelly Slater dominating much of the past decade. Keep up to date with our social media for up to the minute swell forecast and best bets as the event fast approaches. The World title race is well under way, Owen Wright the biggest mover and shaker after Fiji climbing as high as third in the ratings and now a $6 chance to win his first world title. SUMMER FITNESS
Getting in shape doesn’t mean being confined to the gym. A gym membership can have vast benefits, but when the sun in shining this Summer, why not heat things up and opt for some fun workout sessions outdoors. There’s nothing better than getting that fresh air, having fresh new scenery to be immersed in, and to mix up your fitness routine with some new moves. Here are our top 5 outdoor workouts.
1. ROWING
DO THIS INSTEAD OF: ROWING MACHINE
If you have access to the water, whether it be a lake, ocean or river, a rowing workout will leave your entire body feeling great. Many cities have rowing clubs that offer lessons for beginners, and this is a great way to meet like-minded fitness enthusiasts. So, whether you’re looking into rowing for the killer workout or for the social side of the sport, you can’t go wrong.
2. IN LINE SKATING
DO THIS INSTEAD OF: SLIDING BOARD
A sliding board at the gym works the abs, legs and stretches the hips and groin, and guess what, these are the same parts that inline skating works as well. Whether you’re into long, scenic trips or a more workout like a game of roller hockey, you’ll sure to be able to drop some pounds and get toned up before long.
3. SWIMMING
DO THIS INSTEAD OF: PULL-DOWNS
Everyone knows that swimming offers a great workout, whether it’s in your backyard pool, at a community center or in a lake or ocean. It’s a perfect activity to tone up your entire body, especially in your back muscles.
4. CYCLING
DO THIS INSTEAD OF: STATIONARY BICYCLE
Whether you have a beach cruiser, a mountain bike or lightweight titanium bike, hop on and go for a ride. You’ll pedal away the pounds as you enjoy the fresh air, scenery, and the chance to see new destinations, roads, and scenic attractions all the while getting fit.
5. HIKING
DO THIS INSTEAD OF: RIGOROUS TREADMILL EXERCISES
Uphill sprints aren’t for the faint of heart -- quite literally -- but if you’re in shape enough to try them, they’re a real challenge that will give you a serious workout. Stretching before and after this sort of undertaking is a must, given the extreme strain running up a slope puts on the muscles in the lower half of your body. Sprinting is one of the best cardiovascular workouts that exists, but sprinting up a hill is even better.

Most guys will still settle for the traditional route dinner & a movie. So why not? It's been tested and proven for decades. GRILLING SEASON ARE YOU PREPARED? Whether it's the enticing first bite of that juicy, succulent burger that awaits, game day grillers, or perhaps just the peace & quiet of the good old outdoors grilling season is not to be missed. No matter if your in flip flops & board shorts or a Raincoat & boots the grilling shall continue.
GRILLERS GUIDE TO THE ULTIMATE BURGER
1) THE BEEF.
5) GRILL.
For the ultimate juicy burger be sure to buy 80% lean beef.
Lightly salt each patty and grill until droplets of juice appear on the raw side, then flip. Cook to your liking try resist the urge to go for the spatula press, this will only lead to loosing those tender juices.
2)SH APE THE PAT TIES. Make loose quarter pound balls then flatten to a half inch thick. Don't pack too tightly or the Burgers may end up tough. Make a slight indentation in the burgers center to stop it from bulging as it cooks.
3)TOOLS. First things first, it's just about politically incorrect to grill without a beer in hand. It's a safety thing. How else will you tame that rogue flame? Grab your favorite beer & stubby holder and grill essentials as a spatula, tongs, grill brush and basic utensils.
4) PREP THE GRILL. Crank the heat on high for the first 3 minutes then bring it back to a halfway medium flame. This will give you the perfect sizzle to heat ratio.
6)ACCESSORIZE. Lightly toast the bun, add crisp dry lettuce to prevent the bun from getting soggy. Add thinly sliced red onion and tomato. Finally, melt a slice of cheese on the patty just before it's ready to be served. Note: for a extra crunch and flavor, add the secret ingredient, beets to your burger. Two thin slices of beets adds the perfect texture and extra crunch. The Misses will love it so much she might just invite her friends over. Cheers to many more hours over the open flame!
