The flying bail of a stump punctured his left eye on a cricket pitch in England, but Mark Boucher’s gritty determination has carried him through. This 260-page book traces his remarkable sporting prowess, his strength in other sports codes, his decision to concentrate on cricket and his career on the national team, rising to Player of the Year in 1998, 2000 and 2006. It’s packed with behind-the-scenes stories and anecdotes, with scenes of defeat, victory and the strong bonds forged between players. A great book to recommend as a festive gift. 17

The Spur Mountain Bike Classic Somerset West The Spur Mountain Bike Classic is the oldest funride on the Western Cape MTB calendar and remains one of the favourites. On 29 September, a record of 1700 riders participated in the four different distance races.
Grey College Street Mile Bloemfontein This year the Grey College Street Mile’s 16th anniversary fell on 16 October. 360 runners took part in what is an annual event on our Bloemfontein stores’ calender. David and his team were there to execute the branding and encourage the runners. We also helped by providing vouchers to enhance the range of prizes offered.
Our Somerset West team was there to cheer on the riders and hand out much-needed cooldrinks at the 27 km mark.
The Constantia Valley Grape Run Cape Town The Constantia Valley Grape Run, which took place on 20 October this year, follows a breathtaking course through the historic wine estates of the Constantia Valley. The event hosts three distances, a half marathon, a 14 km and a 5 km fun run, attracting in total close to 1200 participants. We hosted pre-registration in our stores and a watering point en route was manned by our team from Tokai. Well done guys!
