Special Effects Makeup (SFX Makeup) / Prosthetic Makeup -

SFX / Prosthetic makeup is the process of using prosthetic products like silicone pieces, cold & hot foam , bondo / prosaide transfers, cosmetics, latex, paints and similar products for final application in theatre, television, editorials, costume parties etc. The process involves sculpting, molding and casting techniques with different materials to create advanced cosmetic effects. This technique is very durable and moulded pieces can be as thin as a few layers of skin, so the results are very life-like and hyper realistic. And if we talk about how creative one can get with this type of makeup technique then there are no limits. One can create amazing , completely unrealistic shocking unimaginable looks like fantasy makeup, ghost makeup, zombie makeup, horror makeup, avant garde/futuristic makeup etc with right kind technique and products. If one likes to create art which is mind stimulating , shocking and realistic, then definitely this form of art might open doors of imagination. Creating beautiful art is my passion & Makeup happens to be one of them. My career has allowed me to visit some of the most gorgeous locations the world has to offer. I LOVE the sense of adventure that comes with being a global make-up artist for weddings, fashion / editorials, movies , music videos but there is all together a different kind of energy & vibe involved when i am doing SFX Project. My recent works for a telugu web series ‘LOCKED’ beautifully directed by Pradeep Deva Kumar which was released on AHA videos has all gore, blood and horror involved. So far i have almost done couple of brain surgeries , heart transplants , beheading , botox , bruises , throat slits, critical intestines injuries & creative creature makeup in my SFX Projects. As a career SFX is not a safe option if you can settle for less & dont have an eye of detail. If we talk about digits then right now the prosthetic makeup industry is booming. The projects are high paying and if you love traveling , adventure & team work then i am sure you would love your life. Following is a quick round of Q/A -

1. Do you have or work with a company for these Prosthetic delivery? If yes, may I know the name? Do you also provide makeup trainings?

Ans - Everything is manufactured under one brand name which is ‘VANILLA69’ for prosthetic requirement we can also be reached on www.vanilla69.com and our other social media like instagram & facebook which is closely managed by me and my team. On Instagram you can follow us on @vanilla69_ And yes we do provide makeup trainings.

2. What is one thing you really enjoyed working on for Locked

Ans - Their work requirement was very challenging, it was such a project which we did for the first time in terms of complicated brain mechanism. Working on such a unit which replicated the human brain anatomy with keeping all minute details intact was very challenging. And the final results came out simply incredible.

3. Did you enjoy working on Locked sets?

Ans - Absolutely yes, We were on set for some 20 days in the first schedule and shift time was mostly during evening hour. Which was a great fun because it also gave ample opportunities to play prank on our team mates who were sleepy and the property was also very beautiful. Post work was always followed by a long drive with the crew members and new friends which we made during shoot.

4. Have you watched locked? What did you think of it in terms of story? And what did you feel when you saw your hard work come alive?

Ans - Honestly telling that i watched the series more than twice. One in original speed and one with lot of pauses in between because there was no other way to stare every single frame for 15 minutes and praise it’s every minute detail. The series is totally raw and the director brought to us this epic thriller. Hoping to work in more such awesome projects.

5. What did you feel personally when they approached you for Locked?

Ans - It was an overwhelming feeling because the production team already had so many talented makeup artists from the industry with them and then also they showed interest in my work, which was a great feeling. LOCKED was a dream project. I was lucky enough to actually live my dream very single day when we were in hyderabad for the shoot.

6. Did you work closely with the director Pradeep?

Ans - My first phone call for the series was from our Director Pradeep Deva Kumar. Not only he is an excellent professional but also a gem of a person who supported us in every way possible. He always use to take out time from his schedule to give us his valuable feedback and also gave freedom of work which is a key ingredient of any successful project. Even with so much of pressure on him from all fronts he was always calm ,cheerful and motivating. We see him as the most humble and great team leader.
