“STRUCTURED SOPHISTICATION”
ROSENTHAL TEE by Erma Ciar - Tulauan and Rayseran

osenthal Lee never fails to amaze us with her stylishly unique and fabulous creations. Her wide variety of experience and exposure to different places and cultures clearly manifests in all of herwork, each of them reflects soul and spirit. She may have started young and now at the peak of hecareer, but definitely, she will continue to make more women emerge at their best -- subtle, decadent and refined -- which she calls “The Rosenthal Tee Woman”. Rosenthal Tee finished her MA in Fashion Design at Instituto Marangoni in London in 2013. On top of this great achievement, she pursued another course on top of the other. She finished Pattern cutting at the London College of Fashion, then took up Jewellery Design and Textile Print Design at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design. These colorful education badges earned her the right to work in some of the prestigous fashion label all around the globe: Izmaylova, Mich Dulce and Kinder Aggugini, Burberry, Richard Nicoll, Stylesight and among others. But in spite of all herachievements, she always hail proudly that she is from, and based in the Phillipines. Rosenthal also shares her talent and skills by being a part-time faculty member of the School of Fashion and theArts Manila, teaching Fashion Illustration and Portfolio Development.Let’s get to know the other side of this famous and adventurous fashion designer thru the short Q&A we had with her. Enjoy!

Spotted.ph: What was your impression of the local fashion scene when you came back here? RT: Filipino design has always been good; I suppose the impression upon returning to Manila was to findthe best people to work with me in elevating the artisan experience that we are actually abundant in, and think greater than the confines of the cit. I’ve always believed in “going for gold”, and so far, as with the 2014 stint as the youngest (in both age and experience) to join the roster of representatives in the Mercedes-Benz Asia Stylo Fashion Week in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, it’s an adage that has worked out so far. Spotted.ph: What is your design aesthetics? Why do you think people can relate to your style?
that makes us both happy. So to answer your question, its important to achieve both satisfaction and adherence to the craft. Spotted.ph: There are a lot of young aspiring designers who want to be where you are, how do you think they can get there? RT: Two things I’ve learned, and continue to learn each day is the fine art of patience andperseverance. Ignore the naysayers and the critics, and focus on constructive criticism constantly in order to improve your craft and creativity. Spotted.ph: If you will be Spotted behind the scene, who is Rosenthal that we will see?

RT: Cities such as London, Paris, St. Petersburg, Barcelona, Florence, Bangkok, and Tokyo have all been a great influence in the designs that I do here. Spotted.ph: Who is your most stylish person? If you are asked to dress him/her, what would it be like? RT: My muses are actually Ms World 2013 Megan Young, Kim Jones and Jessica Yang. These are women that have been dressed in Rosenthal Tee, and they carry clothes in such an elegant and contemporary manner that I constantly look to them for inspiration. Spotted.ph: Which do you think is more important, satisfying what your clients want or adhering to your art? RT: I consider each client as someone I’m collaborating with. All women want to be beautiful and that’s certainly my goal with each person that enters and leaves my studio. eauty trends for 2015 tends to look like bronzy skin, glossy lips and soft, pastel eyes, but the beauty on the runway this season threw us a few surprises in the form of seriously smoky shadow, vivid red lips and strokes of brilliant colors.
S
KIN:
“No-makeup” make-up look will be the trend for 2015 as models from Marc Jacobs strut the runway literally bare (no foundation, no eye shadow, and no contour) with just a hint of highlighter for a glowing skin pluspink-nude lipstick and blush.

Bushy bold brows in gray tone like Cara Delevingne will be also in trend since bushy brows represent youthfulness. Free yourself from brown and blonde brows as black-grayish tone will be in season.

This rich, romantic shade was a favorite on the spring 2015 runways, but it couldn’t be more gorgeous to wear right now, as autumn sets in. At the Vera Wang show, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni was inspired by mystical wood nymphs when he brushed models’ lids with this dreamy dark purple (he used a not-yet-launched Cle de Peau shadow quad, Fairy Dust). Also black wing liner in hard stroke is visible on runways like models on Oscar dela Renta.

We all know that “Marsala Red”, is the colour for 2015…. Therefore flaming red lips will be in this year. When spring’s models weren’t wearing basic lip balm, they were wearing striking shades of classic red. At Carolina Herrera, five not-yet-sold MAC reds were featured: Red, Brave Red, Make Me Gorgeous, Girl about Town, and Diva-ish.

COVER STORY
ALWAYS RUNWAY READY By Erma Ciar-Tulauan and Beatriz Evangelista
T
he road to success is not paved by those who watch life go idly by. They are forged by men and women infused with the virtues of patience and perseverance; people who do not take no for an answer and who only become stronger when faced with adversity. Hairstylist to the stars Lourd Ramos is such a man. Through all the struggles and tribulations he faced, he not only managed to be an expert in his chosen field but has become the golden standard for aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere. If you think that being a hairstylist and make-up artist is easy, think again! It takes patience and real skills to pull off a look the customer wants. Different hairstyles must attribute to the customer’s personality, to the culture we currently practice, and the society we live in today. Even with Lourd’s level of expertise, there are still times when he makes mistakes. In his road to success, he shows all aspiring artists that being a hardworking entrepreneur has its pros and cons.
T
hough he may have several titles linked to his name, Lourd Ryan Ramos—or simply “Lourd”—continues to pave his way to his own road to success. At a very young age, Lourd already knew what he really wanted in his life - fashion and styling. But then, he had to prioritize his studies first as this was what was expected of him. He graduated in AB Communication Arts at Centro Escolar University in 2000. Soon after, he worked as a corporate staff in one of the country’s leading banks. Nevertheless, his dream of becoming a professional stylist never left him; it was just put aside but not forgotten. So when he finally got the chance to do the things he loved the most, he held onto it and never let go.
“
Wanted: Apprentices for a Premiere Salon”—this was the first flyer that drew Lourd closer to his dreams. Without batting an eyelash, he went to the mentioned salon which happened to be located at 6750 during his lunch break and applied for the position. There were hundreds of applicants, but that didn’t discourage him. It was a chance of a lifetime and he did not want to lose to anyone. Luckily, he was one of the 6 applicants who were handpicked to be interviewed first. Right on that same day, he was hired. Though it was just his first day on the job, he took a big risk and quit being a banker. He knew right there and then that this was the best path to take. Under the initial training from two of the country’s most respected hair gurus Victor Ortega and Crispin Britannico, Lourd has showcased his inborn talent in cutting and styling. Little did he know, he was sent to several schools such as L’Oreal and Schwarzkopfz to further develop his knowledge and skills.

S
ince then, he never failed to capture the eyes of fashion and style critics with his works. He is best known for his precision bobs and layers and haircuts that satisfied a thousand clients already. His natural and almost nude bridal make-up works also helped him create a name for himself, and earned him as one of the stylists with impeccable skill and artistry, by People Asia Magazine. Numerous awards and recognitions are on his belt, too. He was the Davines Italia Philippines 2007 Grand Winner and was named Make-up Artist of the year by Studio 23 in 2010. But according to him, guesting for the Asia’s Next Top Model Season 2 is so far his most memorable fashion moment. There he was able to share his ideas on how to make a person look at their best by choosing the best hairstyle and make-up to wear. Lourd is indeed an epitome of a person who has been very successful in doing what he does best.
T
hough he admits that being a hairstylist is not an easy job, his love and passion for this work makes it fun and enjoyable for him. His is a character that can be replicated of those who want to be an achiever as well. It is no secret to him that a lot of the new breed of hairstylists are admiring him and wanted to follow his footsteps. So as his advice for the up and coming stylists: Discipline and patience should be on top, and vision makes it more exciting. One needs to be ambitious to achieve your goal, but never forget to always put your feet on the ground. Even Lourd himself always keep these words in his mind. In fact, he never stop learning. He attends every seminars or trainings possible, to get new ideas. He loves change and that’s what his field is up to. And if he has one biggest fear to mention, that is that people will not love what he does. This triggers him to grow further, and at the same time, share his knowledge.
“
Strike while the iron is hot.” With the salon industry booming and Lourd’s career being at its peak, in 2010, he established his own salon, which he called “Creations by Lourd Ramos”. For him, this chapter of his career and it is high time to share his talent to others, on a whole new level. He believes that Filipinos are very talented and passionate whose talents which are at par, if not exceed those of world class hairstylists. He really wanted to make a difference and he starts it with Creations. His goal is to standardize the 5 Elements of Service: Greeting, Consultation, Execution of Service, Recommendation and Closing. Lourd strongly believes that excellent services the key to be successful in the industry. With this, he became the recipient of Go Negosyo Starpreneur Award in 2011. Currently, he is the Chief Executive Officer and the Creative Director of Creations. With all of these achievements, Lourd stays focused and humble. He is just like any other person who still has many things to attain in life. Aside from the things he does right now, he also want to open up a restaurant where he can cook for his clients, to make them feel how much he loves them.
L
ourd Ryan Ramos’ road to success is indeed not a simple path to take. It is fraught with dangers and risks that seem daunting. The fact that Lourd made it is proof that these obstacles are surmountable. It just takes total focus and making sure that work does not alienate one’s self from the things s/he loves. Good old fashioned hard work is what all of this really boils down to. If people work hard and have discipline, patience and perseverance, we might witness the rise of the next Lourd Ramos yet.
