BEYOURSELF,ONLYGREATER.BEAMARAUDER.
Dear future Marauders and future Prep families, I am thrilled to begin my sixth year as president, and I’m equally thrilled that you are interested in joining our Prep family. Since I began my tenure at the corner of Grand & Warren, I continue to be extraordinarily grateful for what I learned through my experiences serving as a teacher and coach at Prep and then administrator at two other Jesuit high schools and one Cristo Rey school. But what has most prepared me, and quite frankly, for what I am most grateful is this: I am the product of a Jesuit high school, Saint Peter’s Prep. It was at 144 Grand Street where I was infused with Jesuit values and ways of proceeding. My teachers and coaches infused me with these values sometimes through lecturing (though rarely), but mostly by surrounding this boy from Bayonne with a culture steeped in fierce love, an indomitable spirit, and an unwavering faith.
Please know how excited we are at Prep to instill these values in our young men today. Here, students learn not only how to think critically but also how to love generously, how to discover the fire in their hearts, and how to realize—and be proud of—their best selves. In short, they learn how to be Marauders. This is what sets our school apart. Of course this education and formation occurs through our diverse and challenging academic opportunities, our championship athletic programs, and our extensive campus ministry and co-curricular offerings. But first and foremost, it occurs through the largehearted people who make up our faculty and staff, students and parents, and coaches and alumni. It happens together.
When you choose to join us in historic downtown Jersey City, at historic Saint Peter’s Prep, you will become a part of us. You will become a part of our 152-year-old tapestry, envisioned through Ignatian values, bonded together with courageous hearts, and displayed to the world with much pride and glory. Whether he is a musician, an athlete, an author, a community leader, a painter, or all of the above, each student is a Marauder, and that means he is expected to add to this rich tapestry and become part of this Prep brotherhood for life.
Pride & Glory,
Michael Gomez, Ed.D., ’91 President
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BEA MARAUDER?
A MARAUDER ALWAYS STRIVES TO BE MORE. AT SAINT PETER’S PREP WE BELIEVE EACH STUDENT HAS A UNIQUE PATH TO GREATNESS, A SINGULAR SET OF TALENTS AND INTERESTS THAT GIVE HIM THE POTENTIAL TO CHANGE THE WORLD IN WAYS NO ONE ELSE CAN. THE ROAD IS NOT ALWAYS DIRECT, AND OFTEN RUNS UPHILL, BUT A MARAUDER LOOKS FORWARD WITH CLEAR EYES. HE IS READY TO TAKE ON NEW CHALLENGES. HE IS WILLING TO ADMIT HE ALWAYS HAS ROOM TO GROW. HE IS ABLE— WITH THE TOOLS HE ACQUIRES ALONG THE WAY—TO MOVE ONE STEP CLOSER EACH DAY TO THE BEST OF WHAT HE WILL BECOME. THERE ARE AS MANY WAYS TO BE A MARAUDER AS THERE ARE YOUNG MEN WHO HAVE ANSWERED THE CALL TO BE A MARAUDER OVER THE PAST 151 YEARS. TO EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ANYONE BUT YOURSELF; YOU ONLY NEED THE DESIRE TO BE YOUR BEST SELF. YOU MAY BE SURPRISED TO DISCOVER WHAT YOU CAN ACHIEVE AS PART OF THIS COMMUNITY AND THE GIFTS YOU CAN BRING TO EVERY COMMUNITY YOU WILL EVER CALL HOME. A MARAUDER IS YOU, ONLY GREATER. READ ON TO DISCOVER WHAT YOU CAN BE ONCE YOU DECIDE TO BE A MARAUDER.

MARAUDERS EXCEL ACADEMICALLY, BUT IT’S NEVER JUST ABOUT PASSING THE TEST OR GETTING THE GRADE. MARAUDERS KNOW LEARNING THE ANSWER IS THE FIRST STEP, BUT LEARNING TO ASK THE RIGHT QUESTION IS THE GOAL. PREP’S CURRICULUM IS DESIGNED TO FOSTER EACH STUDENT’S GROWTH THROUGH AN AWARENESS OF THE WORLD, THE ABILITY TO BE PART OF IT, AND THE COURAGE TO SHAPE IT.
WHERE WILL YOU GO NEXT? WHAT WILL YOU BRING WITH YOU? WHO WILL YOU BE WHEN YOU GET THERE?
The foundation of a Prep education is our commitment to educating the whole person. This begins in the classroom, where our talented and dedicated faculty strive not only to teach the course material, but to inspire a lifelong love of learning, spark the curiosity that forms critical thinkers, and ensure each student deepens his understanding both of the subject matter and of the world. This is why Prep graduates move forward from Grand & Warren ready to excel at the collegiate level and beyond.
A total of 53 AP and Honors courses are currently offered across the curriculum, and each student will be allowed to select individual advanced courses at each class level based on achievement in his relevant current courses. For incoming freshmen, initial placement into Honors classes will be based on the results of the HSPT or equivalent admissions exam. You will be notified of these initial placements when you receive your admissions decision in January. Registered students will have an additional opportunity to test into Honors sections by taking the optional placement test in March.

MARAUDERS EARNED ACCEPTANCES TO NEARLY 300 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES ACROSS THE U.S. AND BEYOND IN 2024. Our newest alumni have chosen to continue their journeys at institutions as diverse as their personalities, their interests, and the paths that led them to Grand & Warren in 2020. These young men are Our Pride and Our Glory, not only because of where they are going next, but because of who they will be when they get there, and who they will be for life: Prep men. The people they encountered, the experiences they shared, and the lessons they learned in these halls will be the banners that guide these Marauders wherever they go.

MARAUDERS’ HORIZONS EXTEND WELL BEYOND OUR CAMPUS. WE ARE THE ONLY JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL IN NEW JERSEY, BUT WE ARE ALSO ONE OF NEARLY 900 JESUIT SECONDARY AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS ACROSS THE GLOBE. WHILE MARAUDERS BECOME LIFELONG LEARNERS IN OUR CLASSROOMS, THESE ONE-OF-A-KIND CONNECTIONS ALLOW THEM TO EMERGE AS TRUE CITIZENS OF THE WORLD OUTSIDE OUR WALLS.
Prep teachers and administrators are in regular contact with their counterparts throughout the Global Jesuit Network, spanning 80 countries across six continents. Marauders benefit each and every day from a worldwide exchange of ideas and enjoy the integration of those global contacts into their classroom experiences through both synchronous and asynchronous virtual collaboration.
The Office of Global Initiatives invites Marauders to experience worldwide perspectives firsthand through language-exchange programs for students studying Spanish, Italian, French, and German. During the school year, we also welcome guests inperson from our wide network of international partner schools. Marauders don’t just have friends from across the region; they forge connections with learners from around the world.
Other exchanges combine travel to places like Brazil and Peru with coursework back on campus. Travel programs include our Taiwan Study Trip and our Classics Study Trip, which has invited students both to Italy and to Greece during the summer.
Whether they are visiting the rooms of Saint Ignatius Loyola (the founder of the Jesuits) in Rome, climbing to Machu Picchu, attending class in Barcelona, or gazing up at the Eiffel Tower, these programs are designed to help Marauders live up to the Jesuit ideal of finding God in all things.

MARAUDERS CAN ACCESS THE SUPPORT TO HELP THEM THRIVE IN OUR RIGOROUS ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT. PREP’S BROWNING LEARNING CENTER OFFERS A STRUCTURED PROGRAM TO STUDENTS WITH DIVERSE LEARNING PROFILES. CENTRAL TO THE GOALS OF THE BROWNING LEARNING CENTER ARE HELPING STUDENTS RECOGNIZE THEIR CHALLENGES IN THE CLASSROOM, EQUIPPING THEM TO GRADUALLY BEGIN MANAGING TASKS WITH MORE INDEPENDENCE, AND EMPOWERING THEM TO ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES IN SCHOOL AND BEYOND.
In addition to direct work with students, the Browning Center staff collaborates with parents and teachers, helping each to recognize and then address learning challenges at home and in the classroom as an integrated team.
With a full-time staff of four, the Browning Center is open daily throughout the school day, and program participants are scheduled to spend two, 50-minute academic periods in the center each week. The staff uses students’ existing coursework as a framework to further the students’ skills in their individual areas of need, such as organization, note-taking, testtaking strategies, reading for purpose, writing, and using school resources. The ultimate goal is for these Marauders to gain independence in managing their own individual learning styles and proactively and successfully negotiate for the assistance needed. One measure of success is to “graduate” from the Center by senior year.

MARAUDERS MOVE ENTHUSIASTICALLY FROM THE CLASSROOM, TO THE STUDIO, TO THE STAGE. THEY BRING CHARACTERS TO LIFE IN IMAGINATIVE PLAYS AND MUSICALS OR JOIN THEIR BROTHERS IN SONG IN OUR AWARD-WINNING CONCERT BAND, JAZZ BAND, AND CHOIR, KNOWN AS VOX. A WALK THROUGH THE PREP LIBRARY REVEALS THE CREATIVE OUTPUT OF THE EMERGING VISUAL ARTISTS IN OUR MIDST. OUR FINE ARTS STUDIO SPACE IS SET TO EXPAND, GIVING THESE MARAUDERS EVEN MORE SPACE TO HONE THEIR TALENTS AND BECOME THE NEXT GENERATION OF CREATORS.
The arts are a cornerstone of the Prep experience, spanning both academic life and co-curricular life. A vibrant range of student organizations and activities complement an extensive fine and performing arts curriculum.
Annually, Prep Dramatics stages both a play and a musical, partnering with students from our sister schools to bring both theatrical standards and bold new imaginings to life. From Shakespeare, to timely dramas, to side-splitting comedies and Broadway favorites, the emerging actors among us have plenty of opportunities to hone their skills, and behind-the-scenes, our student-run stage crew learns firsthand how to make “the show go on.” Prep productions have even been nominated for several Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards, which encourage and reward exceptional accomplishments in the production of high school musicals in New Jersey.
Musically-minded Marauders may also find their home in our award-winning Concert and Jazz Bands or celebrated choir, Vox! Whether placing in national competitions, leading us at liturgies and events, or taking the stage at annual concerts, these

Throughout the year, our library serves as a gallery space showcasing the emerging painters, sculptors, designers, and architects in our midst, and an annual art show celebrates the installation of a new crop of work each spring. Our current capital campaign, Forever Forward, will further expand the studio facilities where these Marauders continue to hone their talents to become the next generation of creators. Prep’s visual arts instructors are working artists themselves, continuing to exhibit their own work across Jersey City and beyond. courses in the fine and performing arts.
Marauders also benefit from Prep’s central location, as field trips to some of the best cultural experiences both New Jersey and New York City have to offer breathe life into the fundamentals they have learned in the classroom. Concerts, live theatre, opera, dance performances, and museum experiences are all within reach, and many students take full advantage!

Co-curriculars offer students an opportunity to connect and contribute meaningfully within our Prep community while also expressing their individuality. Because we value this dimension of Prep life so highly, our daily schedule includes a Community Period, which is made available each week for clubs to meet during the school day. While many clubs and organizations are also active after school or even on weekends, this time during the school day allows even in-season athletes an opportunity to stay involved in a co-curricular activity.

In addition to co-curricular activities, the Office of Student Life organizes numerous community-building events throughout the year with input from the Student Council and other student organizations—ranging from the annual Walkathon in the fall to the Battle of the Senior Homerooms in the spring.

MARAUDERS PLAY WITH PRIDE AND GO FOR GLORY, REPRESENTING PREP IN 18 DIFFERENT VARSITY SPORTS (NEARLY ALL OF WHICH OFFER A JV AND/OR FRESHMAN LEVEL). BECAUSE EDUCATION IN THE JESUIT TRADITION AIMS TO FORM THE WHOLE PERSON, MARAUDERS STRIVE NOT ONLY FOR VICTORY, BUT FOR PERSONAL GROWTH IN ALL AREAS OF LIFE. PREP ATHLETES LEARN PRICELESS LESSONS ABOUT TEAMWORK, INTEGRITY, AND BEING PART OF SOMETHING GREATER THAN THEMSELVES. THE SAME PREP PRIDE AND THE SAME SENSE OF PURPOSE ARE FOUND IN THE BLEACHERS, WHERE THE STUDENTS OF MARAUDER NATION ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORT THEIR CLASSMATES AT EVERY STEP.
In school year 2023-24, Prep’s varsity teams brought home a total of
county, sectional, and state championships.
MARAUDERS REPRESENT PREP IN 18 DIFFERENT SPORTS, and with most programs offering multiple levels of competition, a wide range of opportunities await...whether you are looking to compete at the next level, or looking to learn a new sport for the first time.

MARAUDERS ARE CHALLENGED TO EXAMINE AND DEEPEN THEIR OWN RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, DRAWING INSPIRATION TO CHANGE THE WORLD FOR THE BETTER. IN THE SPIRIT OF OUR TRADITION AS NEW JERSEY’S ONLY JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL, PREP AIMS TO FOSTER OUR STUDENTS’ SPIRITUAL GROWTH. OUR CAMPUS MINISTRY PROGRAM INCLUDES RETREATS, LITURGIES, AND SERVICE EXPERIENCES. THESE NOT ONLY CULTIVATE OUR STUDENTS’ FAITH, BUT INSTILL IN THEM A COMMITMENT TO BE MEN FOR AND WITH OTHERS, ENERGIZED TO SHARE THEIR GIFTS WITH THE WORLD. PREP IS A COMMUNITY THAT INCLUDES, WELCOMES, AND CELEBRATES A DIVERSITY OF FAITHS AND RELIGIOUS BACKGROUNDS, BUT ALONG THEIR OWN PATHS, MARAUDERS SEEK NOT JUST TO FIND GOD IN ALL THINGS, BUT TO ENCOUNTER GOD IN ALL THINGS, ALL PEOPLE, AND ALL PLACES.
With our Office of Campus Ministry caring for our community’s spiritual life, organizing liturgies, retreats, and opportunities to serve, Marauders strive to consistently embody the spirituality and charism of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, in all they do.
RETREATS ARE AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT OF PREP LIFE. They provide students with the unique opportunity to step away from their busy schedules and reflect on the relationships they are continuing to build with God, with their family, and with their friends.
Our retreats challenge Marauders to reflect on themselves – providing time to examine who they are, where they come from, and what they believe in. Retreats at Prep are peer-led, meaning that the students guide most of our activities.
The Office of Campus Ministry’s retreat program offers experiences tailored to each grade level. Although these retreats differ in nature, they all make time for moments of prayer, for camaraderie, for brotherhood, for group discussion, and for individual reflection. It is our conviction as a Jesuit school that God can be found in all things, and so the program seeks to help students step back and notice “the extraordinary in the ordinary.”
SERVICE IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF PREP’S CURRICULUM. By working in communities near and far each year, Marauders emerge with a readiness to answer the call to serve others. Freshmen and seniors participate in an annual day of service with their homerooms, while sophomores and juniors serve at approved nonprofit organizations making a real impact.
Each summer, Saint Peter’s Prep also runs a number of week-long Christian Service immersion trips. Students who participate in these expreriences spend seven days living in solidarity with people experiencing marginalization. Through a myriad of experiences, such as sorting, preparing, and serving food; helping with home construction and repairs; spending time with others; and more, they grow both in empathy and in personal responsibility toward justice.

MARAUDERS ARE UNAFRAID OF TAKING THEIR FIRST STEPS INTO A WIDE, EVOLVING WORLD AND ARE READY TO GREET THAT WORLD HEAD-ON. PREP’S OPEN CAMPUS IS A VITAL, VIBRANT PART OF THE COMMUNITY WE CALL HOME, AND PREP STUDENTS, TOO, BECOME PART OF THAT COMMUNITY EACH AND EVERY DAY. OUR PROXIMITY TO NEW YORK CITY IS A CULTURAL RESOURCE VIRTUALLY UNMATCHED AMONG NEW JERSEY HIGH SCHOOLS. IT ALSO MEANS OUR CAMPUS IS READILY ACCESSIBLE FROM ANYWHERE IN THE REGION, A FACT REFLECTED IN THE COMMUNITIES OUR STUDENTS CALL HOME.
EACH DAY SEES MARAUDERS CONVERGE AT GRAND & WARREN FROM 117 COMMUNITIES IN 13 NEW JERSEY COUNTIES, PLUS THREE NEW YORK CITY BOROUGHS AND LONG ISLAND. They come from near and far, about 90% arriving via public transportation. Prep is just steps from two PATH and two Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stations, which in turn offer convenient access to Newark Penn Station, Hoboken Terminal, and beyond. The commute becomes time for relaxation, reading, catching up with friends, or catching up on homework. For generations of Prep men, it has been an integral part of the Prep experience, not to mention an invaluable opportunity to develop responsibility and self-reliance.

WELCOME HOME TO GRAND & WARREN.
Here in the historic Paulus Hook section of downtown Jersey City, tree-lined streets of stately brick and brownstone row houses are ringed by modern commercial and residential highrises. To the east, the skyline of Lower Manhattan rises over the same waters that helped make this one of the most diverse and vibrant communities in the United States. To the south, along Warren Street, the Statue of Liberty lifts her lamp beside this golden door, as she has since 1886...a mere 14 years after Prep’s founding! She has been a good neighbor, and a symbol of a sense of belonging and welcome that is central both to Prep’s identity and the identity of our hometown.

field trips, cyclists and skateboarders and couriers and commuters. Amidst all this activity, the tables and chairs of our Warren Street pedestrian plaza provide an urban oasis, a place to relax, eat lunch, and enjoy the scenery. And speaking of lunch, this lively community supports dozens of eateries with a wide array of cuisines, all within a few minutes’ walk. As students progress from freshman to senior year, they gain access to explore more and more of these dining options. In recent years, “Food Truck Fridays” have even brought some of the flavors of Jersey City right to our doorstep!
It’s no wonder Marauders are so proud to call our corner of the world their second home!
