The HBA of Greater Springfield received its charter in and hosted a One Home Parade In 1954. This home was referred to as a “Builder Home.” In 1955 the Parade of Homes expanded to 16 homes and became an excellent venue for builders to showcase their talent and for visitors to witness the craftsmenship found in homes built by HBA Builders. Today we carry on this tradition with many loyal followers from years past as well as newcomers to the Parade looking for a quality builder or just investigating the trends and enjoying the beauty of a quality home built by an HBA member. The Home Show has been the HBA’s largest event for many years. What started out as a tabletop event at the mall in 1981has evolved into an event that energizes members to plan throughout the year. It gives members an opportunity to display their strengths as well as trends and new technology in the building and remodeling industry. Over the years the HBA has added Seminars and Demonstrations to educate YOU, the consumer, on what to look for while building, buying or remodeling as well as how to maintain and protect your home.

The Home Remodeling EXPO helps YOU cut to the chase and find out all the ins and outs of remodeling as well as new technology and trends. Much like the Home Show in many respects with an emphasis on remodeling. October 14-16, 2011

Hiring HBA Members. Good for YOU! When you are thinking about building or remodeling, your first stop for information should be the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield. The HBA is comprised of top-of-the line industry experts who would love to talk to you about any project you have in mind. In order to become a member of the HBA, companies must submit an application for membership. The application consists of background and credit checks, as well as personal references from other businesses, customers and builders in the area. Builders and Remodelers are required to have been in business in the area for at least two years, and have completed a minimum of five projects. Those projects are then inspected at various stages of completion by experienced HBA builders and remodelers to ensure their quality. All applicants also must provide proof of worker’s compensation and general liability insurance – one of the most important requirements for HBA membership. These insurance requirements PROTECT YOU - the homeowner or home buyer - from liability for on-the-job accidents or other complications on the worksite. Only companies that meet these rigid membership requirements and pass a review by the HBA Board of Directors are eligible for membership. The HBA cares about homeowners, home buyers and housing affordability. We serve to hold our members to the highest standard of professionalism. The community knows that they can depend on the HBA members as the true professionals in the industry!

1 Build on a Solid Foundation – Start your search by checking out members of professional organizations with meaningful membership standards. The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield, for instance, requires that its members carry general liability and workers‘ compensation insurance, submit to background and credit checks, submit their construction projects for peer inspections and customer references.

2 Focus in on the expertise you need. When you have heart surgery, you want a heart surgeon, not an orthopedic surgeon. You want a builder/remodeler with experience and even professional credentials unique to your project. There are builders and remodelers who have expertise in a variety of home styles and construction techniques. Whether it is green building or universal design for seniors who want to “age in place”, there are many specialized designations that may be relevant to your building project.
