Type: Full year, every other day

Physical fitness and wellness are promoted and supported throughout the curriculum. Pre-fitness testing is used as a tool for student goal-setting for fitness growth. Units that are studied include team, individual and recreational sports. Daily participation and sportsmanship are required. Students are expected to change into Phy. Ed clothes and wear tennis shoes. Health will be integrated throughout the school year. In 7th grade health, students will develop and practice health enhancing behaviors and learn to avoid health risks through units such as decision making, tobacco, alcohol, nutrition, body image and eating disorders.

Dance and Personal Fitness for Life

Type: Full year, every other day

Students will engage in performance-based activities to experience a wide and varied exposure to dance and fitness. (Examples: Traditional, Creative, Cultural, Hip Hop, Social Trends, etc.) This is a course that will teach students the fundamental techniques and vocabulary in many styles of dance throughout the year. Each trimester, students will experience dance as well as other areas of personal fitness such as strength and conditioning, and yoga. This course strives to promote a lifelong interest in both dance and physical fitness through personal fitness opportunities.
