PBA PBA, now part of Stantec is a leading international consultancy of engineers, planners, scientists, and economists who’s work, from the engineering of landmark buildings and critical infrastructure to the spatial planning and economic evidence in support of development, is evidence based and informed by a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver construction. This wide range of analytic and technical expertise ensures that working together, Sprunt and PBA develop imaginative but cost effective and deliverable masterplans within which schemes can be developed.
Sprunt is known as a company that is both design-driven and client focused, with a passion for making a difference through great design effectively delivered. Underpinning everything we do are a set of core values: design excellence, sustainability, innovation and the highest level of client service. We believe that architecture and urban design is important to the success of communities and we strive to design buildings and their setting that meet the challenges of modern society, that positively support the lives of people and organisations, that help people come together in new ways and that endure and improve with age. Behind every successful project is a thoroughly developed materplan, the result of a complex process which synthesise many different issues to maximise the potential of a site and generate a financially viable and deliverable plan which is flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances and which provides the framework for an enduring, sustainable, high quality environment.

Residential We have vast experience working with Government organisations, Housing Associations, house builders and developers. We have designed for over 12,000 homes in urban environments and understand the opportunities and constraints associated with different types of residential projects. We are used to working at a range of different scales, from whole neighbourhoods to small residential projects.

Infrastructure
Mixed use
We have successfully designed at home and abroad at every scale from hydro-therapy pools to masterplanning major leisure projects such as Kumbor in Montenegro. We were the architects for the refurbishment and extension of the Albany Theatre in Deptford, designed hotels in South Africa and Zambia and the new cultural centre at the end of Southend Pier, the longest pier in the world.
Underpinning every successful masterplan is a detailed understanding of the infrastructure that supports it. Through PBA, our team has extensive experience of large scale infrastructure projects ranging from support for the new HS2 high speed railway and the new Tideway Tunnel sewer under London to the infrastructure framework for a 38Ha mixed use development next to Ebbsfleet International Station.
With an understanding of the design challenges across all sectors many of our projects are mixed use. Our leisure project at Kumbor included residential, retail and commercial with hotels and a marina while our masterplan for End Street in Johannesburg involves the regeneration of a run-down quarter of the city with a mix of residential, commercial, retail, leisure and educational facilities with a combination of new and refurbished buildings.

1. Residential 10
From inception Sprunt has been committed to developing sustainable communities which will improve with age, making a positive contribution to the neighbourhood in which they are located. This approach not only ensures schemes work well over the long term for landlords and residents, but also ensures support from planners. We optimise the potential of sites through a detailed understanding of the planning process and thoughtful design based on many years experience of developing

We are the designers of such landmarks as the remodeled King’s Cross Estate and the new Monteith Estate in Tower Hamlets. We were the masterplanners and executive architects for the regeneration of the Stonegrove Estate in Barnet to create 937 homes with a new church and community centre and have recently completed two residential towers on a challenging site at Lewisham Gateway. In the U.K we have designed for over 12,000 homes in London and the South East, working closely with both public and private sector organisations while in South Africa we are actively involved in the regeneration of central Johannesburg where we are creating over 3,000 new homes as well as designing a number of bespoke houses.

2. Leisure 12
Working at every scale from hydrotherapy pools to masterplanning major leisure projects, Sprunt has a track record of successful leisure projects. With our integrated team of architects, landscape architects and masterplanners we have a particular skill in extracting the maximum value from leisure opportunities. This involves appreciating the topography and setting of sites but also the financial imperatives to create sustainable solutions, demonstrated in our masterplan for a large multi-facility leisure complex at Kumbor in Montenegro. An old naval base in a world heritage site, our masterplan was developed to maximise the opportunity for accommodation, recreation and commercial activities while retaining most of the

End Street involves the regeneration of two street blocks in downtown Johannesburg centred around pedestrianizing the main street leading from Doorfontein station. A sweeping new staircase that links the station down three floors to street level, creating an vibrant leisure space in its own right is central to the scheme. And, with a blend of refurbished and new buildings, the project creates a new mixed use community of homes, bespoke student accommodation, retail and leisure facilities bringing new life back in to the heart of the city.

3.Infrastructure 14
Connectivity and access are important factors in driving value through development and infrastructure, and supporting the economic growth that this can deliver. Whether for the public or private sector, these issues need to be considered early in the development of a project. PBA help clients understand how people move around and between places, and how this can affect choices about policy development, land use and scheme design. Forecasting the complex demand for movement is important to underpin the development of liveable places, but we believe that the best solutions help to shape movement choices
and deliver integrated solutions that are resilient to changing demand over time.
UK Central Hub
Advice is based on a sound appreciation of how changing policy can impact on development and infrastructure projects, a strong technical understanding of assessment techniques, and experience of the challenges of planning and design for movement. Even more important, though, is a clear strategic direction to inform our technical work and a creative approach to problem solving.

Lewisham Gateway is one of the largest regeneration projects in south east London, designed to provide a new heart for Lewisham town centre with high quality buildings and major new public realm connected to its surroundings. To unlock the site, PBA opened up a culverted historic river and re-planned the road network to remove a major roundabout to create direct pedestrian access between the town centre, residential areas and public transport while Sprunt were responsible for the detailed design of two residential towers, transformed the site with new homes, public spaces and a riverside park.

4. Mixed use 16
Supporting our commitment to developing sustainable communities Sprunt has gained experience across all sectors including residential, health, education, leisure and commercial buildings and in many cases our project have involved a combination of a number of different uses, driven by both a commercial imperative and social benefit. At New North Community School 50 new homes funded the construction of a new school on the site of the old while many of our health projects, such as our masterplan of a health village on a 5ha site in Bedford, combine other uses to offer a wider provision to the local community. Centred around a grade II listed poor house, the masterplan included a small hospital, elderly care home and day care centre to provide a robust framework for the future

The 35 ha Sleeper site in the centre of East London in South Africa is mixed use redevelopment of the old railway goods yard designed to regenerate the area with a vibrant mix of homes, shops offices and leisure facilities. Central to the project is the re-provision of a number of dispersed council offices, the sites of which will then become available for redevelopment, while strategically the masterplan is designed to create a walkable precinct linking the centre of the city with the waterfront.
Collaboration is at the heart of our business. Fundamental to the way we design is an open and collaborative relationship with our clients and stakeholders involving extensive, structured consultation. At the same time, we look for a deep, collaborative relationship with other members of the design team to achieve the most effective solutions.

BIM
CONSULTATION Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. Typically, it uses three-dimensional, real time dynamic building modeling software, in our case REVIT, to increase productivity in building design and construction.
Each of our projects is a bespoke combination of design ideas and the aspirations of the stakeholders. At the start of each project we prepare a consultation matrix that is designed and agreed with the client. We make sure stakeholders are part of the design process. Using mind- mapping tools we capture the wide range of ideas and views and distil them into a set of briefing objectives. Because of the extensive work we have done in the fields of estate regeneration, special needs housing, health and education, we are used to dealing with diverse user groups, children and vulnerable people. We are sensitive to culture and gender and we take great care to ensure that our consultation is carried in a sensitive and appropriate way.
18
We’ve been working with BIM since 2004 and now execute all our major projects with the use of BIM as a tool for collaboration with other members of the design team and to achieve efficiency in design. Internally, it is used to develop and validate the design of our buildings and optimise the documentation of the project for construction. Externally, it is used to communicate and co-ordinate the design across all disciplines which in turn supports a smoother decision making process. On completion, the building model then provides our clients with a tool to support better, lower cost facilities management and building maintenance.

We believe that developing enduring relationships with all our stakeholders, clients, residents, staff, partners and suppliers is its own reward. We understand our success is based on the trust we build with all our stakeholders. We listen to them, respect them and keep our promises.
