ACTION REPLAY

SQUIRES GATE 2-1 EASINGTON COLLIERY AFC

Report by James Ashton

It was a poor start from Gate though, and they went behind inside four minutes. A cross from the right fell to Liam Adamson on the edge of the box who fired clinically into the far top corner, giving Nathan Pennington no chance. Gate responded well though, and scored a deserved equaliser on 18 minutes through Nathan Cliffe. The visitors gave the ball away to Cliffe, who drilled a low shot in off the post from outside the area. Both sides went close to taking the lead inside the first five minutes of the second half. Gate had a goal disallowed on 73 minutes. A driving run from Cliffe led to a scuffed shot falling to MekkaouiAbouzaid who poked home from close range, but the referee blew for a foul by Cliffe in the build up. Pennington was called into action in stoppage time to make two big saves, which were made even more important as Gate scored the winner themselves five minutes into added time. A ball over the top from Pett found Cliffe, with his powerful effort parried into the path of Theo Ball who smashed into the open goal to send the Gate players and fans wild!

BURY AFC 2-1 SQUIRES GATE

Report by James Ashton

It was Gate who started the match on the front foot, with midfielder Rowan Chambers doing well to drive forward and have the first effort of the game inside three minutes, but his shot deflected into the arms of the Bury goalkeeper. Ball fired an effort over the bar, with Pennington making a couple of good saves at the other end. Gate took the lead on 41 minutes through James Boyd. A free kick on the right hand side was played quickly in behind for Boyd who finished clinically into the bottom corner. On 52 minutes, a Gate free kick led to a corner that fell to Ball, but his effort in the box was deflected behind. Pennington made another good stop at his near post on 58 minutes, before Bury got their equaliser just moments later. A deep cross from the right fell to the feet of Niall Cummings who smashed home from close range. Just four minutes later, the hosts were in front. A questionable decision from the referee led to a free kick on the left wing, with the delivery from Chris Rowney looping into the top corner after a deflection off a Gate head.
