FALL

Fally Rally was an experience I’ll remember for years to come. We traveled to Del Sol High School at one in the morning on a Saturday after an arduous school week. Once there, we received our new district shirts, which are awesome. After some waiting, it was time to board the bus and start the long journey to Magic Mountain. We turned on Finding Nemo and all began to catch up on lost slumber. By the time it was morning we reached Barstow and topped off on gas. Twenty to thirty minutes later we got word that a bus, full of members, had broken down. Fortunately, our bus was able to take on several members. The we were on the road again, watching Lilo and Stitch, which ended just as we reached the exit for Magic Mountain. We were all filled with anticipation and ready to start the day. Once we were parked, we got our capes and some of our more daring members spray painted their hair red and/or gold, our district colors. Then it was off to the spirit rally in the Golden Bear Theater and we got another spirit item - bright orange pompoms. The spirit rally was full of energy and also with divisions 6N, 6S, 28W, 28S, 36E, 36W, 38W, and 47. During the Rally, Lieutenant Governors and Executive Officers were in the midst of a bidding frenzy between the districts. They were auctioned off to the districts, and once won the districts can spend some time with the officer they have won. Unfortunately, we did not win anyone, but it was fun nonetheless. Then, we moved on to the cheering portion of the rally. We made it through the first cut, which we are very surprise by and proud of. Afterwards, was a huge mess of fellow key clubbers, each with their own cool mascot and spirit items. There were walruses, giraffes, penguins - a menagerie of cool mascots. Then it was onto to the rides! There were so many fun coasters there and many of them made after superheroes, but only the truly fearless went on Superman: Escape From Krypton. That was one of the few I did not go on. It was a long day but I wouldn't change a thing!

RALLY Fall Rally, a six hour drive starting from two in the morning. It was definitely suspenseful for me, I hadn't gone out of state on anything club or school related before so I was definitely excited to see how the day would turn out. From the start I hadn't been able to sleep so I spent the full drive just thinking about what it would be like. And as it would come to be, I wasn't disappointed. Our group, as anyone who was in it, was told that we'd be the first people to go to the hour long spirit rally; I must admit, I partly thought it would be a drag but my expectations were totally incorrect, since we had it first thing in the morning, I was seriously surprised to see how energetic and excited everyone was. The cheers were monumental and everyone was certainly spirited. The hour was negligible, I didn't even think about the time passing, and I was so caught up in the hype that I mistakenly started cheering with the others. Soon enough though, it was all over and the next ten hours would be fun filled. We started off on those little rides, chuckling at the turns and speeds that we went at, but it soon escalated, although I admit I was too afraid to go on the really big roller-coaster rides, I just don't like drops, but I like speed. Throughout the day it would be half watching the others' stuff and riding the rides, and it was all fun and good to be with people that enjoyed running around, seeing other clubs from other divisions and breaking out into cheer competitions. The rides were spectacular and it was fun to see the people walking around with free hug signs, unless you're like me, and strangers scare you; and then they swarm you and you freak out as you get hugged by a giant group of key clubbers. But yeah, still all good ha ha ha. Perhaps the most notable event of the day for myself was when my friend Adam and I both went to the rock wall and climbed up to the top, where time is nonexistent and the only thing that matters to you is getting to the next handhold, and when you're finally at the end, reaching for the final stretch, and suddenly feeling the weightlessness that accompanies falling through the air as you miss the edge and slip off the face, well I could only laugh to myself as I gently was lowered to the ground from climbing to the top. Many people talk about how there are things in life you'll never forget, and this was definitely one for myself. It genuinely made me feel like people truly care about helping each other out for the good of it. And as we winded down, sitting around a table eating a fresh pizza and laughing and talking about the awesome day we just had, I felt like this is the thing that everyone should do once. And I really recommend it. Kenneth Torres

MORE FALL RALLY My experience at Fall Rally was amazing. I’m not really the one for big roller coasters, but you can still have so much fun there, even if you don’t like big roller coasters. The bus ride was long but it really didn’t seem that bad because I sat with my friends. When we got there we went straight to the rally, and there was so much energy in the room. You just feel elated just by being in there. We almost won the spirit stick but it was not ours for the taking. Maybe next year we can take it home. Anyway, my friends and I started out with some small coasters and while they were on the lager coasters, I stayed outside and gave free hugs. It was so fun! Sometimes I was given huge group hugs by, I swear, whole key clubs. It is really funny because a group of guys gave me a hug and saw my friend, then one of them said “You get a hug, too!” and the whole group went over there and hugged him. The look on his face was priceless! One of my friends started to count how many hugs we gave together and we got 500+ hugs! The whole day was just amazing. From the shopping, rides, and defiantly the food, it was a ton of fun. I say it is worth the $125. Anyone who didn’t get to go this time should go next year. Mary Matzeder

WINTER SOCIAL The winter social will be December 18th in the cafeteria from 1:30 to 2:00. It will be a potluck style like the Thanksgiving social. We will be coordinating who is bringing what in a future meeting. After the potluck is over we will be doing White Elephant in Ms. Mills room. You can only participate if you bring a present, $10 limit. The presents for White Elephant all must be wrapped. Don’t get something for yourself or someone in particular because the presents all get mixed around. In White Elephant, the first person opens a present, and then the next person has the choice to steal a present or to open a new present. Once all the presents are unwrapped, there will be one more round, and then the game is done.

OFFICER When I first got my job, I was so lost because there had not been a newsletter. Your job will be easier to do now because you can use my format. You can alter it however you wish, but you must stick to graphic standers set by Key Club. I like to do mine in the beginning of each month so members can look at the calendar of events, but you can change the release date. Every month I like to change the colors to make each issue different. You will write articles on what’s going on and if they would like to, members can contribute pictures and/or articles. It’s an easy job, but you must be able to work Publisher and graphic standards. I will help you acquire those skills if you need to.

As a secretary, you will hold the role of helping out wherever needed. The main job is to take notes at meetings and keep tabs on whose being involved and how, count members who attend meetings, and fill out a form every month. This form includes everything the club has been up to throughout the month. Within it, you'll fill out several things that include meeting details, ltg contact, and service hours. As for myself, I have found being the secretary of shadow ridge high school's key club entertaining and fairly easy. It just requires leadership skills and attentiveness, in which all qualities can be learned. Therefore, it's right for anyone! (:

SPOTLIGHT Hello guys! I’m your current President during the year 2013 and some into the year of 2014. As President I give tasks to people and I coordinate with the current Lieutenant Governor (LTG) to find out what is going on in our entire district. She sends me emails with updates and service opportunities to get back to the members. Then I put what she says and what the board of officers has planned into the agenda. As President it is required that I present the agenda at every meeting and if I can’t make it then the next officer in line takes my spot and presents. Every month I have to send in a Presidents Report Form to the LTG. It states what the club did that month, what’re we’re planning next month, and how the LTG can help. If I go to District Council Meetings (DCMs) then I have to present this in front of all the other Division 28 North Clubs. Key Club is a lot of fun so if you get elected into the President position I hope you have a lot of fun. I know I have.
