NATIONAL BIO-DIVERSITY MUSEUM Area 35 acres Location Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh Typology Museum The National Biodiversity Museum seeks to highlight the issues surrounded in our bio-diversity and species richness and their extinction due to human action and inaction in an experiential way including a separate memorial in a monumental scale surrounded by lush green scape sculpted for the remembrance of our extinct species. Therefore, this project helps in reminding our lost past and remaining future. A space to know, understand, remind and remember.
A space to know
By introducing many books related to Biodiversity, many displays, models and interactive representation with smarter technologies like VR and other modern tools helps in knowing about the nature, evolution, eco system and other environmental depletions and activities effectively. In general, a museum space is dedicated for knowing such activities.
A space to understand
By educating kids about the importance nature through books was not been effectively practiced nor experienced. If children lose contact with nature, they won’t fight for it. By teaching them about the environment, evolution, and ecology in an outdoor space connected with nature, we can provide them with the tools for change consciously. A universal education program would go a long way in encouraging change in how we view each other and our environment. So if we want to protect our environment and biodiversity, creating opportunities to reconnect with nature is crucial for both children and adults. So proper place to experimenting and practicing helps the future generations helps in understanding the needs and to preserve nature. It helps in improving the human connectedness with nature.
A space to remind/remember
We have raised many memorials and monuments for remembering the sacrifice done for the country. But in between our human conflicts and degradations, many unsung species got extinct in a course of time. So to remember their loss with caution for our future, a memorial space is given as a tribute which will also remind our extinction.

MUSEUM
The monumental scaled structure holds the museum for Indian biodiversity and a memorial for the species which were extinct due to human actions. The form symbolize the Industrial cooling tower which is being a reason for pollutions and other climate change. So by creating a sense of submerging tower into the green scape gives a social impact for the surrounding neighbourhood. Therefore it helps in reminding our lost species and remaining future.

MEMORIAL
IDEOLOGY A space to remind and remember... We have raised many memorials and monuments for remembering the sacrifice done for the country. But in between our human conflicts and degradations, many species got extinct in a course of time. So to remember their loss with caution for our future, a memorial space is given as a tribute which will also remind our current extinction. The details of each extinct species are etched on the surface of the chimney.
The basic idea for this particular form is evolved from extruding the spiral pattern which symbolize the basic evolution pattern of the species.
The frustum profile was similar to the shape of an Industrial Cooling Tower, thus incorporating the same idea for housing museum and memorial by merging the base of the shape to the ground level.
Remembering our Lost species
Memorials are generally tributes for the lost lives or people who fought for their own rights in this society. Majorly memorials were built to remind or to remember the past act. When it comes to dedicating a space to showcase about the richness of flora and fauna, we must able to bring equal importants for the lost one. This memorial with a biodiversity museum helps in observing and spreading the values of our species. The main function is to have an information and exhibition center dedicated to the 860 species of animals, birds, insects and other species that have been identified as extinct since the demise of the dodo in the seventeenth century.
FLUID WALLS - DHOBI HOUSING Area 2.5 acres Location Chetpet, Chennai Typology Housing This project requires to identify any one residential neighbourhood that is in transformation and located within their geographical region or state. The selected site should ideally have been in contact with the everchanging pressures from urbanization processes from nearby urban areas especially in the phase of rapid urbanization process.
DHOBI KHANA Started on December 8, 1902 by Sir George Moore, who was the president of the Madras Corporation at the area. The ancestors of the present generation in the Dhobi Khana were already using the area to wash people’s clothes. Moore decided to provide a place with water and few washing stones. Dhobi’s refer to a community of people whose occupation and livelihood lies in washing of clothes and linen. This particular Dhobi Khana is said to be India’s second largest and Chennai’s oldest Dhobi ghat with 120 washing stones. Presently, Chetpet Dhobi Khana has fifth generation with a population of 1000 dhobis.

WHY LIVE HERE? The inhabitants of the Dhobi Khana currently reside in resting rooms provided by the government, which were originally meant only for short breaks and storage. This is due to the need of proximity to the workplace, during their daily work cycle.
12 pm
WHY WORK HERE? The 115 years old community has gained a firm foothold over the hearts and streets of modern day Chetpet, and has withstood the test of time. The effects of the surrounding urbanizations and developments had little effect inside this compound by a slow take over of their livelihood by machines. The main client of the Dhobi Khana consists of the surrounding hotels, hospitals and salons etc. The community has gained a strong hold over the hearts and streets of Chetpet. There is no lack of work, as the compound has several locations within a close radius which need the Dhobis services.

STORAGE
Inefficient drying and unusable spaces designed to make maximum and efficient use of spaces for ironing and storage.
Roof sheet for the dhobi’s can protect them from the harsh sun rays as well as help in collecting water in the trough during rain.
Laundry to Landscape
Treating the grey water from washing zone to use for landscaping , flushing and other secondary requirements.
EXISTING SITE
The existing site is spatially unorganized and scattered, which makes a lot of dead and unused spaces all around the site. WASHING + DRYING
IRONING + STORAGE
AMALGAMATION OF SPACES
Combining the workspace with defined and required spacing for each work zone gave enough spacing for expanding the size for housing units. The work spaces have been reorganized into separate washing + drying area, and the ironing + storage area have been accommodated into a G+2 building. WASHING + DRYING
IRONING + STORAGE
PROVISION OF ADEQUATE HOUSING
Since they required an inside out approach between workspace and housing unit from the surrounding neighbourhood. A continuous row of housing unit is stretched out throughout the site boundary which reduced the public visibility towards their workspace. It also had an imageability of a gated community. HOUSING
DIVISION OF HOUSING BLOCKS
The longer side of the structure face towards north and south with few air pockets towards east and west for air circulation. This three storey structure alignment can able to accommodate 160 housing unit each of 35 Sq.m space with proper corridor space to access each unit. HOUSING BLOCKS
LANDSCAPE
The site is well organized and spatially defined with proper area requirements which brings lot of green pockets and other spaces all around the site. The site has enough landscape areas, small park, recreational or gathering spaces for the community. There are defined pathways, driveways and setbacks all around the site for easy access around the site. PARKS + GATHERING SPACE LANDSCAPE + SETBACKS + PATHWAYS
Unsettled families using clothes as partition wall in Ironing Area
IDEOLOGY The concept to provide adjustable walls and openings has been adapted from the existing scenario where people use clothes as partition between the houses as well as within the house. In the current scenario, every family is given a permanent structure with prefixed openings which a family needs to adapt to it. In this proposal, the space adapts to the needs of the families. This style also breaks monotony both aesthetically and functionally. Here, we give them a canvas and let the families to paint their spatial requirement according to their needs. The main idea is to need adequate and appropriate shelter for all diverse ables user groups along with basic services is more urgent than ever particularly for developing countries like India. Habitat in India is a function of socio cultural and regional diversity, though the stratification has always been on economic criterion wherein the livability has been defined by affordability. This design defines this diversity through ‘ALL’ in the following five dimensions Accessible To all diverse ables users, age groups, and gender groups. Attractive Places for All including diverse social groups, local communities. Affordable To all including the low income groups and economic weaker sections. Adoption Of all possible appropriate emerging technologies to promote speedier construction without compromising structural & functional performance. Adaptable In all Seasons in a particular Geo-climatic region including hazard resistant construction.
LOAD BEARING Load Bearing structures makes it cost effective and affordable. Thus sharing walls are stronger.
ADJUSTABLE WALLS Folding and sliding partition walls that are flexible to create spaces according to the users need.
ADAPTIVE OPENINGS The louvers slide and pivot, thus enabling the users to move them around according to their need.
SHADING The projected structure acts as a sunshade and provides a balcony and verandah for each house.
LAYOUT ITERATIONS 7m X 5m
ADAPTIVE OPENING LOUVERS The homes of the inhabitants of this Dhobi Khana are required to be adaptive to the changing needs that arise throughout their day. Therefore these vertical facade louvers is used for the housing units. They are easily movable, slidable and changeable as per the requirements of the user spatially, seasonally and hourly. They provide several advantages over standard brick walls. The users are able to modify these ‘walls’ to create ever changing spaces, lighting and atmosphere.

Since WeBe Design Lab is a team of eight young architects, they mutually tied up with each other for their untiring passion for design. As an eight-member team, they realise that a “collaborative spirit” is a must for a successful practice. They make their design process “explorative” one seeking each other ’s experiences, combining interests alongside. To showcase in this exhibition, we thought of displaying how our firm works by creating an interesting INSTALLATION which represents the “Identity of one reflects on the other and thereby forming a single entity.” The triangular void surface formed between these volumes act like a kaleidoscope in reflecting the ideas and thought process of these individuals and also its surrounding environment, creating a connect with the observer.

MODEL MAKING I always believe that a conventional way of starting a design has a very strong connect with our thinking process that helps in bringing out our abstract ideas in the form of hand sketches and physical models.

ART I’m a self-taught artist who constantly experiment on different medium. The process of creating an art is a form of meditation where I can empty out the noise inside me in the form of silence and helps me to focus with patience while creating a piece. I always seek for connectedness towards what I create and art helped me to realize it.

ILLUSTRATION Illustration is a medium were thoughts and ideas are explained visually in the form of digital art. It helped me in developing a sense of understanding and communicating the design process visually through a simple step by step graphical representation. This medium helped me in experimenting with different form of works apart from art and architecture.

PHOTOGRAPHY Photography is an art where we can observe, compose and freeze the moment. It helps in understanding the real meaning of timelessness. I am keen about capturing the abstract clouds were each formation is an unique piece of art.
