S R I N I VAS V E M A G I RI “Design is intelligence made visible” I have always been an enthusiast for creative innovations that challenge the stereotypical society. Spaces and their elements have constantly fascinated me, and this interest has led me to the world of design. Ever since then, I have learned, explored and worked every day to broaden my understanding of design. I believe that technology is the future, and so I have harnessed my skills in this field. As I look forward to learning and enhancing my skills in the practical world now, I hope I can bring the theory of architectural aesthetics into the experiences of people’s lives.

EVE OF FERVOR Cultural Center Design Year 2021 Type Competition (Group) Project, Cultural Center - Baku, Azerbaijan Competition invites all architecture students, and young professionals to develop and submit compelling ideas for the design of a cultural center for all, located in the soul of the Silk Road cities - Baku. The narrative of this competition design stems from revisiting the solid traditional roots and foundation as well as sculpting the community for the years to come. Designing a center that houses a network for all; a space that welcomes all and celebrates the notion of co-existence. The participants must consider the context and culture, and how the society and social needs are developing. The overall design should be sensitive to the history and enhance the originality of an experience within this unique setting.

We have explored and experimented with a bold idea and that is, “Looking at the heritage and culture of twin cities of Hyderabad through the eyes of Cubism.” For example: Things we wished to explore through the design: 1. Construction of domes and arches; we want to design a modern version of the common arches found in Indo Persian Architecture. 2. We want to use common design motifs oF Ind - Persian Architecture in Unique Ways.

Zoning

3. We want to create a unique interpretation of Indo - Persian Architecture through the theory parametrics.

U HUB The URBAN HUB or U-Hub comprises of 3 blocks for Start ups+ Workspaces and one Institutional block. It is the most important zone for this design. As shown on the Master Plan Sheet, The U-Hub is the most dominating complex of the site and is visible as a stark, dynamic, twisting structure from every other block on the site. It is a rotating structure with green terraces, arched windows and large courtyards. Circulation through he U-Hub Zone is limited only to pedestrain movement. A parking is provided on the boundary of the site that is easily accessible to employees and visitors alike.

While the rest of the floors act as individual elements, the ground floor is essentially the same for all 3 U-HUB Blocks. The 3 blocks are interconnected via semi-open cafe spaces. The water channel running across the site also flows through these cafe spaces.

TWISTING THE FORM

The form has been derived based on the 4-point concept of CHARMINAR. Keeping in mind the quadrapole towers, 4 blocks have been envisioned to create a similar feeling. After trimming the edges and twisting the form itself, we arrived at our current design.

PARKING

The building accommodates 4 skylights and a grand central atrium which lets in maximum natural lighting throughout the day. This also helps in keeping the hospital sterile and well lit.

The double skin on the facade is smartly designed so as to block the glare and heat from coming in whilst simultaneously allowing maximum light inside. This helps keep the building well insulated and protected. The facade itself acts as an iconic feature to the design.
