INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT
There are many activities that take place at a pet shelter especially the one involving dogs. Dogs are full of energy but also love to just sit down and rest or snuggle with their masters. Like wise, kids are the ones with full of energy while the adults like a little more relaxing space to gather and talk about their daily lives. The aim of this project is to design a resting space for the people and the dogs visiting the pet shelter. This will be done by understanding the CANINE PSYCHOLOGY, talking to some of the pet owners, researching about various materials that can be used to design such a space and developing a concept by understanding various activities that take place, the emotions that space provides with and then relating a few ideas to the concept. A thorough step - by - step process will be followed to design such a space.

A DIALOGUE WITH THE PET OWNERS 1. The people liked the idea and informed about the CANINE PSYCHOLOGY more based on their own experiences with their pets.
i. The dogs like to sit on soft cushioned surfaces.
ii. Dogs can be lazy while the younger ones are full of energy.
iii. The young ones like playing and running around.
iv. The dogs don’t like closed confined spaces.
v. Dogs can’t jump very high and it is recommended that they are provided with steps or a ramp. A
ramp is very much preferred though to access a higher level. vi. The wood that is used should be completely finished wood as there is a risk of getting splinters for both the pets and the humans.
vii. It is best to chose a material which is easy to clean.
viii. Dogs have their own spot and they don’t like getting up from their spot. It is like if that is their
territory
2. The people focused on the preference for their dogs than themselves. 3. One also suggested a material that can be used that is Rubber.

MATERIAL STUDY - FABRIC
MICROFIBER
• Microfiber is one of the best upholstery options for pet-friendly sofas. • This synthetic, soft fabric is easy to maintain. • Spills and stains on microfibre can be cleaned with a damp cloth and claw marks can be brushed away easily.
LEATHER
• Hair can be brushed off and stains can be cleaned easily. • Distressed leather can be used as scratch marks can blend in easily. • Leather also tends to get more comfortable with use.
VINYL
• Vinyl is a cruelty-free alternative to leather and works as a pet-friendly fabric. • Durable and easy to maintain, vinyl comes in a number of colours.
NYLON
• Synthetic fabrics like nylon can take a lot of damage and still look good. • Nylon is resistant to scratches, spills and stains. • Dirt and hair can be easily cleaned too. It’s also one of the more budget-friendly options.

DESIGN BRIEF The aim of this project is to design an object/ a space which can be used for:

A DIALOGUE WITH THE PET OWNERS - FEEDBACK 1. The people appreciated the designes and liked the thought process. 2. Based on a previous discussion with the users just after the completion of the conceptual sketches made it possible for an interactive discussion. 3. They all gave some common pointers which enabled me to further improve my design.
i. Some suggested that I use tunnels opening ar various spots for the dogs to run around and play.
ii. Some suggested a viewing space be made, maybe, as a glass roof sort of thing using toughened glass.
4. After completion of the products, I took a few render shots and showed them to the users. 5. They’re impressed and they were also happy that I had given heed to their suggestions and tried to implement them in my design. 6. Though they all liked the three different spaces I had shown, but they appreeciated Design 2 more as it has all the requirements and suggestions. 7. They also liked the fact that instead of going for the conventional designs, I took time to think about making the design a little less conventional.

DESIGN PROPOSAL - BENEFITS
• All the three design approaches can be used together to achieve varied functions. • The second design approach can be used to perform the functions of the other two iterations as well. Therefore, the people were inclined more towards the second design iteration. DESIGN 2 - RESTING SPACE FOR DOGS AND PEOPLE & PLAY AREA UNDER 1. This design enables the interactions of
i. Human ‘n’ Human
ii. Human ‘n’ Pet
iii. Pet ‘n’ Pet
2. it has tunnels running below making it possible for the pets to play around while those who want to rest can sit, lay down or lean agaist it and relax and engage in conversations or other activities. 3. It has a ramp leading to the top enabling easier access for the dogs, if they want to relax or be with their humans. 4. It has a toughened glass viewing space enabling the owners to get a peek at their dogs running beneath. 5. The upholsery is made of a micro fibre material making it easy to maintain. 6. The safety of both the people and the dogs is given priority and therefore, oak wood used for structural framing is finished to prevent any mishaps like splinters.
