A Special Prayer Message for All People from monks of Ramakrishna Math during Covid-19 Pandemic Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna repeatedly advised devotees to pray to the Lord. He would say, "God is the Kalpataru, the Wish-fulfilling Tree. You will certainly get whatever you ask of Him. Pray to God with a yearning heart. God certainly listens to prayer if it is sincere. There is no doubt about it." Indeed, every religion prescribes Prayer as a definite way to connect with God. We usually pray for fulfilling our material needs, or to overcome some difficulties, or as spiritual aspirants for realising the Truth. There is another kind of prayer. It is praying for the welfare of others. In one of his letters to his brother-disciples Swami Vivekananda writes, “Now I tell you a curious fact. Whenever anyone of you is sick, let him himself or anyone of you visualise him in your mind, and mentally say and strongly imagine that he is all right. That will cure him quickly. You can do it even without his knowledge, and even with thousands of miles between you.” This praying for others should not be just for our family members and friends, not just for our community member or people of our religion, but for the whole world. In our great land we have since time immemorial the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The whole world is one family. Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi’s last message was “Learn to make the whole world your own. No one is a stranger. The whole world is your own.” Today, countless people across the world are suffering from the Coronavirus pandemic and many have died. Again countless people are fighting to defeat this virus. In India we are under a 21day national lockdown. But we common people too can join this struggle against disease and death. We can do this by the power of our prayers for universal health, prosperity, peace, and happiness. Let us all together now offer nine prayers at the feet of Sri Ramakrishna. As I read out each prayer, you too pray to the Lord from your heart with all your sincerity. Then send positive thoughts in all the four directions.
