Connor Dewar, BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing
“Before joining SRUC I didn’t have much experience with animals, but the staff and students really helped me to develop those skills I chose the vet nursing course because I want the work that I do to make a difference Nurses play such a critical role not just in the care of animals, but in reassuring clients and helping to make their experiences in practice as positive as possible There are lots of great opportunities for nurses to help improve standards of care in the profession even further It really allows you to tailor your career to the exact role you want to play ”
“The practical sessions were really helpful for me Since I’d come from a more academic background, I was comfortable with the theory work, but climbing into a pen of calves was a new experience for me! This really helped me to develop practical skills and confidence around animals, and I feel that’s really helped me to fit in to working in practice”.
“If somebody was thinking about doing vet nursing as a career I would say to them if you have an interest in vet nursing, no matter what your background, go for it Don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel you have the relevant skills right now - that’s what being a student is all about! As long as you’re passionate about what you’re doing and work hard, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to develop the skills you need ”
