TABLE OF CONTENTS Proximity sensors allow detection of objects which are nearby without any physical contact. Application of these sensors is now being found across the industries operating in different sectors. The most common usage is found in cars where sensor determines the distance of nearby cars in parking lot. Other applications are found in aviation safety, defense systems, conveyor belts, mobile devices etc. There are four different types of proximity sensors present in the market: inductive, photoelectric, magnetic and capacitive. Inductive sensors have the largest market share in proximity sensor market. The market is highly competitive with too many players. Macroeconomic factors play an important role in market growth. Recession of 2009, saw slump in this market. Slowly, as the effects of recession subsided, market began to see improvement, which is expected to carry on in near future.
