THE HOLY COMMUNION

The Collection of Gifts and Offerings

Your financial gifts support the Brothers’ life and our ministry to many, here at our Monastery in Cambridge and at our rural Monastery, Emery House, in West Newbury, and others whom we reach electronically and in our travels on mission.

A Note about Holy Communion

Following Diocesan guidelines, please refrain from intinction (dipping the Bread into the Chalice). If you wish to abstain from receiving from the Chalice, remember that the Church catholic has always taught that the fullness of the Sacrament is received even when only one form is received.

If you require a Gluten-Free host, please indicate to the Brother administering Bread at Holy Communion if that is your preference.

Prayer after Communion

Presider Father, People we have seen with our eyes and touched with our hands the bread of life.

Strengthen our faith that we may grow in love for you and for each other; through Jesus Christ the risen Lord. Amen.

Easter Blessing

Br. Curtis Almquist, Presider & Preacher

The Monastery as Sanctuary

We want our Monastery to be a sanctuary for our guests and for the Brothers. Please silence your electronic devices. We also ask you not to photograph, video, or record services in the Chapel, or to photograph other guests or Brothers without their express permission.

Welcome

Week of April 16, 2023

We are delighted to welcome you to the Monastery today, either in-person or online. If you are a visitor, or new to the Monastery or Community, please take a moment to introduce yourself to one of the Brothers following the Eucharist. If you are joining us online, drop us a note telling us where you are joining us from.

The Brothers wish you all a happy and joyous Eastertide!

Schedule Change

We will not pray Noonday Prayer or Compline corporately from Tuesday, 18 April through Saturday, 22 April. We return to our normal schedule on Sunday, 23 April.

Retreat Day

The community will take its retreat day in April on Wednesday, 26 April. We will not pray Compline on Tuesday, 25 April, or Morning Prayer or Compline on Wednesday, 26 April. Our retreat day in May will be on Wednesday, 3 May.

St. John’s Day

We will be celebrating our annual patronal festival, the Feast of St. John, the Beloved Disciple, on Saturday, 6 May at 11:00 AM. Our preacher for St. John’s Day this year is The Reverend Cathy George. Cathy has served as a parish priest in this Diocese and as both the Assistant Dean of Yale Divinity School and the Associate Dean of Berkeley Divinity School, the Episcopal seminary at Yale. We are delighted to be able to welcome her to the Monastery as our preacher this year. Following the service there will be our annual garden party and luncheon. All are welcome. Please invite someone who doesn’t yet know the monastery to join you.

Student Tuesdays

For our weekly Tuesday evening student group, we invite local students to join us each week for the Eucharist, supper, discussion, and Compline, in any combination. Information and registration can be found at www.ssje.org/students.
