2024, WEEK 3
Dear VA-AAP Members;
I am honored to address you as the new President of the VA-AAP It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce our revitalized newsletter, a platform designed to strengthen our community of pediatricians.
As we embark on this journey together, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of our new executive board who bring invaluable expertise and passion to our mission: President: Natasha K. Sriraman MD, MPH
Vice-President: Percita Ellis, MD Treasurer: Suzanne Brixey, MD
Past-President: Kristina Powell, MD
Their leadership will undoubtedly guide us towards achieving our shared goals of advancing pediatric medicine and improving children's health outcomes.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dr. Kristina Powell, who served as an excellent President for the last 2 years. Her leadership has not only grown the chapter but improved the health and well-being of children and families throughout the Commonwealth. I appreciate all that I have learned from her over these past couple of years
Our newsletter, Pediatric Prism, will serve as a dynamic platform for exchanging insights, showcasing innovative practices, and highlighting groundbreaking research in our field. It is not merely a publication but a conduit for fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge that enhances our collective impact. Huge shout-out to Amanda Henry, ED and Kaela Luchs for their innovative ideas in creating our newsletter.
I encourage each of you to actively engage with Pediatric Prism We welcome you to share your work, experiences and stories with our Chapter membership. Your contributions are instrumental in driving meaningful change.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the well-being of children and families. Together, we will continue to innovate, educate, and advocate for children and families in Virginia.

VA-AAP CHAPTER
IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
WHAT WERE THE MOST CHALLENGING & MOST REWARDING PARTS OF BEING THE CHAPTER PRESIDENT FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS?
The most rewarding part of the presidency was getting to know so many wonderful pediatricians throughout Virginia I enjoyed hearing from and meeting so many colleagues that are passionate about child and adolescent health issues. I was moved by the number of individuals that wanted to be involved in the Chapter and the size of our membership in VA I enjoyed speaking and talking with people at the state conferences The most challenging part was that due to our Chapter growth, we chose to change management companies for the first time in 20 years and of course there were a lot of logistics involved with that
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN GETTING MORE INVOLVED WITH THE CHAPTER?
The Virginia AAP board is a group of volunteers that are passionate about the children and adolescents in the Commonwealth We need other pediatricians to join our efforts We would not exist without our membership and your involvement We have committees and champions for various issues that you can join Most of our work is via email or zoom Please email our executive director if you would like to help with or start a new project
YOUR ROLE AS CHAPTER PRESIDENT ENDED JUNE 30. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS NOW?
I plan to get back to focusing on my general pediatric practice at Pediatric Associates of Williamsburg where I have practiced for 20 years I am also taking on a new role as the QI lead for VMAP for the various educational programs. I will continue to stay involved in the Chapter as immediate past president and attend many of the committee meetings Lastly, I will continue to work on making Bridge2ResourecesVA userfriendly and available to anyone in Virginia that is looking for social needs resources
