The Mitsubishi Company Housing Site was a group residence for the Korean workers who were forcibly conscripted by the war crime enterprises at the end of the Japanese colonial period. The goal of the project is to propose a design that can preserve its architectural structure and utilize the historical value of the Bupyeong Mitsubishi Private Residence site, which houses the history of forced labor of Koreans during the Japanese colonial period. First, Bupyeong of Incheon, the site, and the historical background of the Mitsubishi Company Housing Site was investigated. In addition, the history of forced labor was made into four categorized spaces using the line structure of the Private Residence. In other words, the Company Housing site itself was made to become a dictionary through which future generations can browse the historical time and space.

The Mitsubishi Residence is a private residence located in Bupyeong 2-dong. It was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which was known as a leading war crime company during the Japanese colonial period, in order to forcibly recruit Koreans to work. Even in its name that is known in Korea, no trace of the history of forced labor can be found in the site. In fact, it was left and neglected in its underdeveloped state for a long time. Currently, this place is scheduled to be demolished by the Saetteul Village Project in Bupyeong 2-dong. An historical space is on the verge of destruction. The Site in 2016 & Scope of the design

Research on War crime company

‘War crime company’ refers to a company that has grown on the basis of profits obtained through the manufacture of military supplies or forced labor. During the Japanese colonial period, Japan forcibly conscripted Koreans and exploited their labor. Representative war crime companies include Misubishi, Mitsui, and Sumitomo.

According to satellite data, the number increased by 84% compared to the same period in 2018. Based on the data currently being investigated, the scope of fires occurring in the Amazon is expected to expand. Over the next decade, this will have a devastating impact on the planet as well as the destruction of the Amazon. We focused on recovering the Amazon from these adverse conditions as soon as possible. Using the principle of “carbon cycle” and the carbon dioxide accumulated in the Amazon’s land, we intended to design skyscrapers equipped with a system that plants and grows plants in an appropriate environment, and ultimately, restores the Amazon. This is called, “Moving Biotope Factory,” and it completes ecosystem modules at a faster rate than natural conditions and distributes them throughout the rainforest. In addition, the system produces the modules at a volume and speed of about 28 modules per week (4 modules per day). Each produced module is optimized for the local environment in which it will be planted. Total number of fires in Brazil

2019 has seen more than double than in 2013

How to utilize the Amazon Ecosystem

The way to do CPR on the earth, which was stifled by the destruction of the earth’s lungs, Amazon, was to plant trees in the Amazon. This is because a single tree actually has the power to restore the soil, water, animal and human ecosystems all because of the carbon cycle.

In order to preserve the distribution of past vegetation by regenerating previously fertile soils in the Amazon River basin range, which are relatively less likely to occur. Starting from the estuary of the Amazon and moving towards Peru, our “biological habitat” will gradually spread throughout the Amazon range.

Considering the climate and vegetation in the Amazon, the rainforest area (AF) has trees and vines that are as tall as 20 meters, and the rainforest area (AM) has guarana trees and vines that are as tall as 30-40 meters. In the tropical savannah area (AW), species such as rubber trees, cacao, and jute are planted to preserve the existing distribution of Amazonian plants.

Design Concept : Rolling Ecosystem

We built a system that helps biotope grow and plant, using the principle of biotope implantation equipment. This is to create biodiversity in the barren Amazon land and restore the Amazon.

Overall System

The system begins with digging out soil and water from the Amazon, which are purified to produce the appropriate biotope for the area, which are then replanted in the barren land. The carbon is created during biotope production and it helps the system work by creating an model of the Amazon inside the building.
