what makes cti so unique? The CTi knee brace is our flagship ligament brace. Introduced in 1983, CTi® remains the cornerstone of our ligament bracing product line today. While the original CTi has evolved over time, our basic philosophy remains unchanged. Specifically, we still contend that a static support system consisting of a rigid brace frame that captures the tibia and non-elastic cruciate straps is superior to the dynamic solutions offered by most other ligament brace manufacturers. A rigid brace frame that captures the tibia is ideal. Non-rigid braces fail under significant stress and braces that substitute soft tissue containment for brace-to-bone contact usually have increased migration problems. The rigid, carbon composite CTi knee brace frame captures the tibia, providing the brace-to-bone contact needed for maximum stabilization of the knee joint.

Non-elastic cruciate strapping is also crucial. When combined with a rigid frame that truly captures the tibia, the result is a static support system. Dynamic support systems with rubber (or elastic) cruciate straps merely realign the knee joint after it has begun to displace. Static systems hold the bones in proper alignment to help prevent displacement altogether. 1992 marked the birth of the Accutrac™ hinge. By analyzing natural leg motion, we invented a patented 4-bar linkage system to more-accurately mimic the natural movement of the leg without a brace. Most of our ligament braces, including CTi, feature the Accutrac hinge, which is also now available in a ROM version for many of our ligament products.

In addition to the Accutrac hinge, CTi has a number of other distinguishing features, like a Total Support System™ for ligament, rotary and combined instabilities (see right). CTi goes off-the-shelf. After nearly 25 years, we are pleased to announce our first off-the-shelf (OTS) version of this classic. CTi OTS replaces a portion of the rigid tibial component of the custom model with a flexible subshell and Adjustable ATS Strap. This solution still captures the tibia, yet provides adjustability for variances in patient anatomy and an excellent out-of-the-box fit. Migration is history. Ossur Sensil® Silicone Technology is established in the prosthetics industry. For the new CTi, we integrated this proprietary silicone with an Aerospacer base mesh fabric to create a patent-pending, breathable padding that eliminates migration.

CTi technology trickles down to our entire line. Whether custom or off-the-shelf, premium or economy, every Ossur ligament brace benefits from the technology behind CTi. In particular, every product in our ligament line incorporates some combination of a rigid brace frame, flexible subshells, padding and strapping to capture the tibia. While the 100% rigid tibial capture component of the CTi custom brace provides the highest level of protection and support, other products in our line may be more appropriate for your patient, depending on their unique needs and activity level.
