HOUSING This is a housing project in Newport, Wales for 4 different parties: one house for 8 occupants, one house including 5 retirement flats, one house for 2 families, and one house for 5 children who suffered for mental illness. I studied the physical and visual layering around the site. In order to understand the degree of privacy of different groups of people needed, I also studied their living pattern. To represent the layering within my design, I make use of 3 approaches according to the study of privacy: openess, material and volume. For example, children are the group of people who want the most privacy. Their houses has the smallest opening and the smallest volume to provide sense of security. From outside to inside, the texture of material are from coarse to fine to represent the layering. The fascade are in bricks, and the common areas are in concrete, while the internal walls are in plaster.

2.5 DIMENSIONAL

Competition Project - ArchMedium (TRC) in collaboration with CT Chui

Otakus are people who are addicted to animations, mangas and games. These products are known as 2 dimensional world (二次元) because they are mainly showed in flat media. The fictional world of 2-dimensional is a world full of fantasy. There are high school students trying to save the world, female Kung-fu masters and people using magic. On the other hand, the reality in Tokyo, 3 dimensional world(三次元), is a stressful place. High density, long working hours and small living space making people want to escape from 3-dimensional world to 2-dimensional world.

CYSTALLINE REPLAY ROOMS

Our design concept is to act as a bridge between these two worlds. People from the 3-dimensional go to the 2-dimensional world by watching animations in the replay centre. We want to create an experience that visitors may confuse whether they are in the 2 dimensional world. Large Room

The design is based on a three dimensional grid. The grid from connecting several layers of triangles, to create grid. The grid can generate in total eight type of surfaces. It makes a pixelate composition of surface in a 3d way, but has the quality of scenes in the 2-dimensional world. These surfaces can be used as projection surface to create a surreal feeling, like in manga scenes. The surfaces then compose to be the crystalline modules of replay rooms, hovering in a big volume. At the top they gather to be a big mass – the auditorium, which can be a big anime cinema and performing space for Akihabara idols, like AKB48.The surfaces at the bottom creates the shop and admin areas, are composed almost like a mountain. People can enjoy exploring in the 3d composition of the spaces.

Medium Room

Through the bluring between 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional world, we wish to bring joy and a new experience of 2-dimensional world to Tokyo people.

Tofu House, Kyoto, Japan, by Jun Tamaki

This is a beautiful house located on a hillside. It has a very strong relationship with the nature that the roof can access to the hill directly. The form is interlocking, which requires precise calculation and cutting when making the model.

This is an interesting tiny house looks like a tofu. It is in a rectangular form while the main internal space is smoothen without an angle. The walls are so thick that the indoor space is filling with warm diffused light. The opennings are crafted out with care.

INTERNSHIP AT FAK3 HONG KONG

Erno Laszlo in Times Square, Hong Kong During summer of 2011, I have an internship of 3 months in FAK3, Hong Kong. It is co-founded by Miho Hirabayashi and Johnny Wong. This is a display model of a retail shop by FAK3. I have made some draft models to test the fluidity form of the display counters. Then I study carefully of each material to contrast the glossy and matte surfaces
