SUPPORT THE CHOIR OF ST JOHN’S

THE CHOIR OF ST JOHN’S COMBINES TRADITION AND INNOVATION TO PROVIDE A UNIQUE MUSICAL EDUCATION FOR ITS MEMBERS. As one of the world’s leading university choirs, we provide an exceptional musical education for our singers and organists, many of whom go on to enjoy successful careers in the arts. Our unique style of choral performance – rich, warm and distinctive – has enthralled millions of listeners worldwide through services, broadcasts, recordings, concert tours and webcasts. The funding required to support our valuable work is significant. While the College pays for Scholarships at St John’s College School, our ability to reach and enlighten global audiences cannot be covered through commercial income alone. Philanthropic support from our alumni and supporters helps to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Choir. By joining the Choir Association of St John’s College, you help us to continue to support our musicians and bring the ‘St John’s Sound’ to more people every year.

JOIN THE CHOIR ASSOCIATION The Choir Association exists to ensure the Choir’s longterm sustainability. It brings together Choir members past and present, their families, our community and our listeners and concertgoers from around the world. Members of the Association can enjoy benefits such as complimentary tickets and copies of new recordings. We invite our members to attend annual social events.

Supporting the Choir through the Association is an opportunity to show your appreciation and ensure that the Choir maintains a sustainable future dedicated to musical excellence.

We should help the Choir to stay at its peak and support future generations of outstanding musicians. We understand the cost of excellence, which is why I support the Choir through the Choir Association.

Singing with the Choir of St John’s is the greatest privilege I have ever enjoyed. By supporting the Choir I hope many others in the future will be able to say the same.

fees and costs towards organ examinations. Many former Organ Scholars go on to pursue highly successful musical careers, such as Sir Stephen Cleobury, David Hill and the late John Scott.

BURSARIES FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDY

The Choir Association provides financial support to undergraduate and graduate members of the Choir who wish to pursue a career in music by studying at an external institution, such as music college. Please note that bursaries to attend an external institution cannot be gift-aided.

RECORDINGS

Your support helped us to establish our own record label. This gives us the creative freedom to record a varied repertoire and bring commissioned works by established and emerging contemporary composers to a wider audience.

Our Patrons invest in the Choir’s future. We welcome the opportunity to involve them in plans for our forthcoming activities. To pledge your support at this level, please contact the Choir Office at St John’s College.

INTERNATIONAL TOURS

Regular tours abroad play an important role in bringing the ‘St John’s Sound’ to international audiences. They also provide members of the Choir with valuable performance experiences and educational travel opportunities.

INSTRUMENTALIST COSTS FOR CHAPEL SERVICES The Choir has been imaginative in hiring instrumentalists for Chapel services, such as termly Bach Cantata Evensongs. This enhances the Choir’s ability to support the liturgy, encouraging the writing of new music and giving Choir members richer performing experiences.

ENDOWMENT FUND

Help to ensure the long-term future of the Choir by donating to the Choir Endowment Fund.
