St. Agnes Academy was founded in 1905 by Mother Pauline Gannon, O.P., Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Houston, Texas. The Academy opened on February 12, 1906, at its former location at 3901 Fannin. It was in operation at that site until September 1963 when, the present-day campus opened at 9000 Bellaire Boulevard in Sharpstown. St. Agnes numbers more than 10,000 graduates, many of whom now have daughters, granddaughters, and even great-granddaughters who are Academy students or alumnae.

At St. Agnes, we challenge our students to lead by providing opportunities in the classroom, on the field, on stage, and in competitions across the nation. We find our students respond to the all-girls environment by forming deep bonds of sisterhood, exploring their academic passions, and by taking charge of their experience.

Our students keep the Catholic, Dominican identity of our school strong through their leadership. Nearly one-third of the student population is involved in Campus Ministry.
Student disciples lead weekly mass, retreats for each grade, and daily prayer. Our retreat program is second to none. Once a year, each class attends an off-site multi-day retreat focused on one of the four Dominican Pillars. Ninth graders focus on the Dominican Pillar of Community while sophomores focus on Study, juniors on Prayer, and seniors on Preaching.
Prior to graduation, every student will address a social justice issue by working with a person or group of persons in need. Through this experience, our students discover the principles of Catholic Social Teaching firsthand.

It is not uncommon for potential clients, colleagues, and even partners to be able to spot a St. Agnes graduate from a mile away. Many have come to know that a St. Agnes alumna will speak her mind, live her life purposefully, conduct herself with poise and integrity, and advocate for herself and others in any given situation.
While the four years spent at St. Agnes are intentionally transformative –those are just the beginning. Graduates are encouraged to dive into our vast alumnae network. With opportunities like the Coed Young Alumnae Happy Hour with brother and sister schools, annual reunions highlighting milestone anniversaries, and an active Alumnae Board, we hope to advance relationships among our community and further involve alumnae in our mission and legacy.
