Overview

Saint Joseph Academy (SJA) is an academic faith community for young students in grades 7-12. We endeavor to form young men and women who will succeed in university studies, who know and love Jesus, and who actively participate in the worship and mission of the Church, including the Church’s preferential option for the poor.

SJA is currently seeking a dynamic individual to join the leadership team and serve as the Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs This position will lead SJA’s advancement efforts and is ultimately accountable for their success. In addition, this position oversees the Admissions Department and its performance. It will require working with the president and advancement team, the Board of Directors, faculty, school principal, staff and others to raise annual, capital and endowment gifts for the school. This person is a member of the President’s Cabinet, is the staff liaison to the advancement committee of the board and attends board meetings. The Director of Advancement collaborates with and leads the personnel in the advancement and admissions offices. This position requires evening and weekend hours, attendance at some school and alumni events, and travel.

Qualifications

- An understanding of the mission of SJA and the value of Catholic secondary education

- Bachelor’s Degree

- Five or more years of demonstrated success in fundraising

- Prior capital campaign and major gift experience preferred

- Proficient in using Microsoft Office; experience with donor management software preferred

- Ability to multi-task projects and duties

- Must be highly organized, detail oriented and have the ability to work in a dynamic environment

- Must have strong written and oral communication skills

- Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality

DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT & ALUMNI AFFAIRS

The Director of Advancement & Alumni Affairs is responsible to the President in all her/his actions and decisions. This position will lead SJA’s advancement efforts and is ultimately accountable for their success. In addition, this position oversees the Admissions Department and its performance. It will require working with the president and advancement team, the Board of Directors, faculty, school principal, staff and others to raise annual, capital and endowment gifts for the school. This person is a member of the President’s Cabinet, is the staff liaison to the advancement committee of the board and attends board meetings. The Director of Advancement collaborates with and leads the personnel in the advancement and admissions offices. This position requires evening and weekend hours, attendance at some school and alumni events, and travel.

1. This position is responsible and accountable to the President for the overall direction of Academy Advancement and Admissions at Saint Joseph Academy: alumni relations, advancement, marketing, public relations, communications, and enrollment/recruitment of new students.

2. Participates as a member of the institution’s senior administrative team and has authority to make decisions for and strategically lead the Office of Academy Advancement and Admissions Office.

3. Actively engages in the Community and understands the value of building strategic community and business partnerships that can be leveraged for the benefit of the institution.

4. Works closely with the President, Advancement Team and School Board and is responsible for the creation, maintenance and execution of the Office of Academy Advancement’s strategic action plan. Works collaboratively with all support groups including the Alumni Association, Athletic Boosters, Advancement Council, Administration, Faculty, Staff, Parent Volunteers and other organizations.

5. Oversees all fundraising activities at the school, including the annual fund, major gift fundraising, planned gifts, grant writing, special campaigns, events and endowment strategy.

6. Works closely with the President in overseeing and executing all phases of the major gift and planned gift process: identification, research, involvement, solicitation, follow-up, and stewardship.

7. Actively leads, supervises, and supports all Office of Academy Advancement and Admissions Office initiatives and processes. This includes fundraising, prospect research, market research, communications, recordkeeping, alumni relations, marketing, and public relations, to name a few.

8. Supports and influences the activities of the Advancement Committee of the School Board.

9. Leads, supervises, and supports the preparation, production, and distribution of various internal and external reports and publications, including the Annual Report of Philanthropy.

10. Supervises the Office of Academy Advancement and Admissions Office Staff: Meets regularly with all team members to develop a strong team spirit and a willingness to work together on multiple projects; assists each department member in her/his professional development; and is responsible for the annual evaluation of each department member.

11. Creates and manages the departmental budget, working closely with the Business Manager in tracking departmental revenues and expenses.

12. Performs all other duties delegated by the President.
