Celebrating Student Success There are so many reasons to celebrate as this academic year comes to a close! We were able to come together to share our students’ hard work and academic achievement. Students presented their learning in summatives, thrilled us with their performances in “A Day in the Life of a St. Jude’s Student” (JK-Grade 2), in “Lion King” (Grades 3-8) and in “The Doll’s House” (Upper School Drama Club). Our students shared their masterpieces in IMAGINARIUM and showed off their athletic ability at Track & Field. We were excited to come together once again as a community as we hosted our sold out DYNAMI Parent/Staff social event in May. Our in person Promotion Ceremonies for students transitioning to the next level (JK to Grade 5 and Grades 7, 8, 9 and 11) were held at the SJA Dome and celebrated our students’ achievements. The in-person Graduation ceremonies celebrated the completion of the IB Primary Years Programme for Grade 6 students and the Middle Years Programme for Grade 10 students. To go beyond to celebrate the achievements of our Grade 12 students, the graduation ceremony and reception was held offsite and was followed by a Prom with dinner, music and dancing. Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and well-earned successes! We are thankful to be able to share these wonderful life milestones together.

ACADEMICS

This year, St. Jude’s has launched its foray into the world of Model UN (MUN). We attended both King’s MUN and Appleby’s MUN (where Ilias F. won Outstanding Delegate). On May 12 we initiated our first internal MUN, engaging with the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Led by our Co-Chairs Sarah S and Ilias F, nine delegates each represented a country, formally debating the crisis and discovering how difficult it is to de-escalate this very real and serious situation. Model UN (MUN) Delegates: Sarah S, Ilias F, Zak F, Ella K, Edward G, Manasvi V, Adiyah A, Serena F, Maram I, Suravi K, Navya B

Habitats DIORAMA

The Grade 1 students learned about different animals and the characteristics that define their habitats. They looked specifically into the Woodlands, Arctic, Rainforest, Desert, Grassland and Ocean. For their summative project, students created a diorama of a habitat of their choice and researched about the needs of the plants and animals within this habitat.

Mathematics During the Grade 1 Spatial Sense Unit, students were given the opportunity to examine different 3D shapes by looking at their nets. They were given templates and began using their critical thinking skills to build their 3D shapes.

Coding The idea of putting post-it notes on the walls around the school was for students to learn and experience coding in real-life applications. In life we respond, interact, and relate to others most of the time with an unspoken code, therefore, coding is not limited to math. The activity ignited participation and engagement in learning the unit.

Sharing the Planet Students in Grades 2/3 have also learned the causes that are putting species into these categories as well as ways we can be responsible to help save and prevent species from becoming endangered and extinct. Students were asked to educate their peers about an endangered animal of their choice. Students were required to pick an endangered animal and create a poster of an enclosure with a brochure for the animal. Students then created a zoo in their classroom and asked other classes to tour the zoo and learn about the chosen endangered animals from our knowledgeable zookeepers. French

The Grade 6 students, after much research in French, proudly presented their Exhibition Project to demonstrate their knowledge and fluency in this language. The Grade 5 students learned about how to maintain a healthy body and be good citizens of the world. The Grade 3 students became more diplomatic by focusing on good manners in French and every morning, the Senior Kindergarten students brought their beautiful smiles to talk about the weather, focus on their five senses and talk about what they want to become when they grow older.

Technology Welcome to our ARCADE! – Creating unique games The Grade 5 students hosted an arcade to showcase the games they created for their summative task. The Grade 5 students explored coding on the platform Scratch and how technology has changed over time. They applied their knowledge and understanding by creating unique games and were very excited to share their hard work with their peers.
