April1, 2018 Easter Sunday For Christians, Holy Week is the most sacred time of year. It’s a time to reflect on what the “good
news” of the Gospel really means. The joy of Christian life begins at Christmas, but it comes to fruition on the other side of Calvary. No matter how intelligent or talented or privileged we might be, none of us can avoid the sufferings that go with the fabric of daily life. What we do with those sufferings determines the course of our lives. We can allow them to break us, or to break us open to become something greater than our old selves. St. John Paul II once described the Bible as “God’s great book about suffering.” He meant that Scripture is the story of God’s willingness to suffer for humanity, and his call to each of us to join our own struggles to his in healing the evil and pain in the world. Real joy, enduring joy – as Pope Francis says so powerfully in The Gospel of Joy – comes from our solidarity with others. The cross is the way Jesus accomplishes our redemption. Only by sharing that experience with him can we rise with him on Easter. In other words, there’s no resurrection without the crucifixion. In offering God the personal sorrows and sufferings which each of us daily face, and in working to ease the sorrows and suffering of others, we join ourselves to Jesus. We share in his sacrifice for the world … but we also share in the reward, for he draws us with him out of death into new life on Easter. Therefore, when we speak about the Gospel message of joy and hope, this is what we mean: the joy of restored life; and our confidence that even in dying, we will live forever in the Lord. As we begin the Sacred Triduum – the wonderful and moving sacramental celebrations of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil – may God grant us all the gift of encountering Jesus Christ as savior … in the Eucharist, at the cross and beyond the empty tomb. lll
Para los cristianos, la Semana Santa es la época más sagrada del año. Es un momento para reflexionar sobre lo que realmente significan las "buenas nuevas" del Evangelio. La alegría de la vida cristiana comienza en Navidad, pero se lleva a cabo al otro lado del Calvario. No importa cuán inteligentes, talentosos o privilegiados seamos, ninguno de nosotros puede evitar los sufrimientos que acompañan a la trama de la vida cotidiana. Lo que hacemos con esos sufrimientos determina el curso de nuestras vidas. Podemos permitirles rompernos o abrirnos para convertirnos en algo más grande que nuestro viejo yo.
San Juan Pablo II una vez describió la Biblia como "el gran libro de Dios sobre el sufrimiento". Quiso decir que la Escritura es la historia de la voluntad de Dios de sufrir por la humanidad, y su llamado a cada uno de nosotros para unir nuestras propias luchas para sanar al mal y dolor en el mundo La alegría verdadera, la alegría duradera, como dice con tanta fuerza el Papa Francisco en El Evangelio de la alegría, proviene de nuestra solidaridad con los demás. La cruz es la forma en que Jesús logra nuestra redención. Solo compartiendo esa experiencia con él podemos levantarnos con él en la Pascua. En otras palabras, no hay resurrección sin la crucifixión. Al ofrecer a Dios las penas y sufrimientos personales que cada uno de nosotros enfrentamos a diario, y al trabajar para aliviar las penas y el sufrimiento de los demás, nos unimos a Jesús. Compartimos su sacrificio por el mundo ... pero también compartimos la recompensa, porque él nos arrastra con él de la muerte a una nueva vida en la Pascua. Por lo tanto, cuando hablamos del mensaje evangélico de alegría y esperanza, esto es lo que queremos decir: la alegría de la vida restaurada; y nuestra confianza en que incluso al morir viviremos para siempre en el Señor. Al comenzar el Triduo Sagrado, las maravillosas y conmovedoras celebraciones sacramentales del Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo y la Vigilia Pascual, Dios nos conceda todo el don de encontrar a Jesucristo como salvador ... en la Eucaristía, en la cruz y más allá de la tumba vacía.
