Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the midst of adversity, we need to trust in the saving presence of God who triumphs over the waters of the sea. In the midst of distress, let us turn to the Lord with faith, to him whom even the wind and the sea obey. He died and rose for our sake that we might live and not perish. 6/21

A BLESSING BEFORE SUMMER VACATIONS Take time to claim your strength; they are gifts of God. Take time to have fun; it's God's way of teaching you your strengths. Take time to grow yourself; only you can grow you. Take time to trust yourself; God trusts you. Take time to be self-reliant; it is better than being dependent. Take time to share with others; they will bless you, and you will bless them. Take time to have hope, you are a child of God. Let's put ourselves into the hands of the Lord, and pray that God will bless us and our families during the wonderful months of summer. May we all help make our home a place of relaxation, joy, love, peace and safety. May we be generous and considerate, not thinking only about ourselves, but helping others enjoy the blessings of a summertime. Lord God, Creator of all things, guide our steps and strengthen our hearts, during these months of summer and vacation days. Grant us refreshment of mind and body. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
As we continue in Ordinary Time, we hear three stories from the Bible. The First Reading is from the Book of Job, the Second Reading is from Saint Paul to the Corinthians and the Gospel is from Luke. In the story from Job and Luke, we specifically hear about stormy weather and God’s response. Saint Paul talks about how death leads to a new creation. The connection in all of the stories is that no matter how bad the storm, when we seek solace in the Lord, we are protected and renewed. Jesus was teaching the crowd and decided to set out in the boat with his disciples to the “other side.” Suddenly a storm came upon them and the disciples were afraid. Jesus, who was asleep, woke up and shouted to the sea saying “Quiet! Be still! The storm subsided and the nervous disciples were relieved and were in awe of the power of their teacher, Jesus Christ. They knew Jesus was special but had not come to the realization that he was the Son of God. To use the stories of the storms and death and apply them to our own lives, we only have to look at “storm” as the turmoil that sometimes enters our own lives. No matter the chaos, if we seek the assistance of God, the storm in our lives will seem to be less frightening . Even with painful experiences, Jesus is saying to us “Quiet! Be still! “ ‘I will walk with you and never leave you. You only have to ask for my help.’ We see this in the footprints story and many other illustrations when God is carrying us when we don’t have the strength to walk by ourselves. With God on our side, nothing will destroy us. So we ask ourselves: • Do we ask the Lord to be our guide every day making it easier in a crisis or sad situation to seek the love and compassion of God?
