May 31, 2015 The Most Holy Trinity Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. As Christians, we believe in three persons in One GOD. We honor the three persons in One God every time we say the Sign of the Cross. The Sign of the Cross is not just an action when we enter Church or recite the rosary. The Sign of the Cross is a prayer in itself. It is a prayer to the three persons in the Holy Trinity. When we say “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen”, we are calling upon the three persons in the one true God. We pray to: God, the Father, who created us; to God the Son, who became man and redeemed us through his suffering, death and resurrection; and to God the Holy Spirit, who sanctifies us, making us holy and giving us the gifts and fruits necessary to be authentic disciples of Jesus Christ. When we say Amen at the end of the Sign of the Cross, we are saying “yes” to belief in the Holy Trinity. All three persons of the Holy Trinity are equal and believing in them and how they impact our daily lives is important to our growth as Roman Catholics. Let us thank God for not one but three titles to wrap our minds around: God's creative touch, Jesus' passion of love and the Spirit's ongoing guidance.
Reflect: • Every time you bless yourself, remember that you are reaffirming your belief in the Trinity. • Take time this week to pray to all three persons of the Trinity. • When you struggle with the concept of the Trinity, think of the many titles that you carry (son, daughter, friend, neighbor, sibling, coworker). Each has its own role but you are the same person.
